I originally visited 99 Bikes Southampton after another branch did not have the stock I was looking for. From the outset the experience was excellent. I explained that I was interested in a manual Brompton C Line and the sales associate Phil G immediately showed me the three models they had available. He took the time to check the bike over properly and suggested I take it out of the store for a test ride so I could get a real feel for it. Phil also introduced me to the Brompton G and encouraged me to ride that as well so I could compare the two. He clearly explained the differences between the models and talked through which bike suited different types of riding and use cases. There was no pressure at any point and the focus was very much on helping me decide what was right for me. I phoned the following Monday to confirm what I wanted to purchase. Phil listened carefully understood exactly what I wanted and made sure the bike was fully prepared and ready for collection the very next day. When I arrived everything was ready and the process was smooth and straightforward. Overall the experience was very positive and the service from Phil in particular stood out. Helpful knowledgeable and genuinely customer focused. I would not hesitate to recommend this store and would happily travel again for the level of service I received.

Went to this shop to look at getting a new bike for myself, after having my left ACL reconstructed and was told cycling will help with recovery (plus help with fitness). We spoke to a member of staff there (sorry I think his name was Matt!), and had amazing service. He was patient, as I am a newbie cyclist, answered all my questions, helped me decide what was best for myself, and was very relaxed. I was undecided on a normal mountain bike or an electric bike due to my lack of confidence in my abilities due to being a novice and my knee surgery, but after taking his advice and getting the electric bike I am glad I listened to him. I actually enjoyed my first ride with the other half and son, (who are both avid bike riders) and the electric bike allowed me to get movement in my knee without too much pressure and I kept up with the family. Thank you so much, will definitely be back I am sure!

We would like to say a huge thank you to Adam, Matthew and the rest of the team at 99 bikes. This was our grandsons first proper "pedal bike", I have known Adam for many years now and trust him implicitly when i questioms about anything bikes. Before we visited the shop I spoke to Adam and told him how important this was to me as I wanted my grandson to have the right bike and above all be safe as he embarks on his cycling journey. Our visit to the shop with our grandson could not have gone any better. Adam had arranged for Matthew to look after us and I have to say he did so to the absolute best of his ability. Nothing was to much trouble for him, he was patient when our grandson chose his favourite colour, he changed the saddle for him, he adjusted the bars/seat height and fitted stabilisers on the day we actually picked up the bike. I highly recommend the team at 99 Bikes Totton especially Adam and Matthew. Thank you guys for making our grandsons first bike experience so special and memorable for him. Phil & Julie.

Visited yesterday and was a little taken back with the member of staff I spoke to. He didn’t seem to have much accurate knowledge of the bikes they were selling and consistently told my friend and I incorrect information. I had been in the market for a Cube Stereo One77 SLX. He repeatedly told me that the bike weighs in at 27+ kilos, and that apart from their shop, I would not be able to purchase anywhere else as they were all out of stock. Worth noting I asked him if he has some scales so I could see for myself that it was 27 kilos, to which he responded “I don’t know where they are”. Sure!!! Now I don’t know if he was just wrongly informed, or just didn’t know what he was talking about because I know very well that the bike is under 25 kilos in the size I was asking for and that the bike is in fact in stock in a lot of places as I was going to buy that day online, but thought I would go to a (relatively) local bike shop instead. After I told him the type of riding I do he then proceeded to tell me “well you ain’t gonna find any of that round here” with a bit of a smirk on his face. I quickly corrected him and told him I am not from round here and I indeed do find what “that kind of stuff” where I am from. I also asked if they would price match their bikes to which I got a solid “Nope” from the guy. I should mention here that it specifically says on their website that they do. Ultimately, the guy really rubbed me and my friend up the wrong way with his assumptions and attitude towards us. Sadly I couldn’t recommend 99Bikes. I ended up going to leisure lake bikes not to far away and was very pleased by the staff there (Peter) who actually listened to me, was more than helpful and all around really down to earth guy, I ended up buying a 2026 Cube Stereo One 77 SLX and all the other accessories I needed. Picture is of us trying the sizes at leisure lake bikes, with the one I bought on the very left and the receipt to show how important customer service is.

Absolutely fantastic service from the guys here. Went in without an appointment to get my inner tube replaced. They ended up indexing my gears and just checking over my bike way beyond closing time. Collected my other bike after a major service and rides like new (she’s 9yrs old). I can’t recommend them more highly if I tried. They really are the most approachable bike shop in the world! Thank You.

Fantastic service! Fixed the brake set up on a bike I purchased from another store, quickly and without charge. I will come back for future bike services and purchases.

Writing to record my grateful appreciation to the customer service team at Hargroves Southampton. They supported a return and replacement frame from a leading brand with great attention and good communication throughout. Couldnt have expected anymore from them - thanks.

I don’t normally post reviews but just wanted to say how great the staff are at Hargroves in Totton. Wasn’t buying anything but popped in to get my peddles loosened as seized with rust. The two guys there did the job no questions asked. Fantastic service, would highly recommend to any cyclists out there!

I reserved some mudguards during the week for my road bike. I went in to collect them on Saturday and was greeted but, I just wanted to look around for a few minutes before I collected my order. I looked around for about 10 minutes at all the new cycles and made my way to the till for what seems to be an extended wait. I explained the bike that I had and asked the assistant if they would fit. His answer was somewhat unsure and said if they didn’t I could I could return them. This didn’t install much confidence after asking for “expert?” advice. Perhaps I should have gone to another place that knew for certain. Not overly impressed considering the amount of high end products there were for sale. Not sure if I will be coming back here again. Even after a refund there was no attempt to improve the situation and I left very disappointed.

Having recently had my bike stolen I went to Hargroves to look at a replacement and check bike frame sizes. As the new bike will be purchased by an insurance company I did not know if the insurer would purchase through Hargroves, although I provided a link to the bike I wanted at Hargroves for the insurer. I was upfront with the staff regarding this. However, they were still very helpful, even ordering a bike in a different frame size for me to try. Cannot fault the two helpful staff members that assisted me in finding the correct frame size. In the end the insurers went direct to the manufacturer for the replacement bike, but I will certainly be using Hargroves for kit and maintenance in the future.
