“Tried the pie menu, first time I’ve had food in here since the refurbishment and omg am I glad I came! As always the staff and atmosphere were lovely, the food for under £15 was top tier. Really enjoyed the pie I had and the food! Would recommend, so glad this local is on my doorstep will be eating from the new menu again ❤️”

“What a bloody amazing pub! The last and final remaining public house I've visited in Poynton and I'm absolutely ashamed of myself that it wasn't the first pub I'd ever visited! I've driven past well over a thousand times in the last ten years after the traffic chaos on the mad mile and I've never popped in. More fool me than you I promise! Now... I've never felt so guilty I've never popped in. If you want airs and graces, go elsewhere. This is a no-nonsense pub with a down to earth owner with plainspoken patrons. The locals here are as welcoming as the owners. Considering it was my debut visit and they hadn't a clue who I was they treated me like family but I was just some randomer who came in with a little Jack Russel! I walked in here with my dog and she was instantly welcomed. No other pub in the village except Cask has ever extended the same virtue, we've always been asked to leave or sit outside! I'm really sorry not to remember the landlady's name but she was so nice to our group. I did promise her a revisit so I hope to update the review in due course. Thanks for having us x”

“What a beautiful pub!! We first discovered stockport for afternoon drinking ( before lockdown) from a trip out with our local historian and Sentinel writer Mervyn Edwards.. we fell in love with the preserved Victorian history and friendly locals...since then we travel from stoke and stay over regularly. This visit I particularly wanted to discover the Star and Garter. Stunning building...on entrance we were warmly welcomed by barman Craig.. it was fascinating to learn about the pubs history and Craig's family working within the pub trade for generations. Of course we enjoyed Robinsons Iron Maiden bitter.. a perfect pint..a creamy head all the way down the glass! A cash only pub... my husband always supports Cash is King ! A lovely traditional friendly local pub.. we'll definitely visit again.”

“Stopped into this pub on the way home from a weekend wedding to break up our journey. The chef and host could not do anymore for us. The food (mikes kitchen) was delicious I had a chicken roast and my husband had a homemade pie. Our daughter is a fussy eater they accommodated her perfectly. Staff were very friendly and easy to talk to, as we left they were setting up for karaoke, wish we weren't leaving.”

“Have visited this place on a number of occasions. It is a Sam Smith's pub so they only sell their own brewed beers but the prices are very reasonable. Friendly staff and I guess that mainly older patrons (like myself) will enjoy visits to this pub. There is an open fire during the cold weather. A traditional pub that you can access from the main street by descending steps.”

“The new owners have really done the old pub proud. Beautifully furnished, great service and fantastic food. The food was outstanding. Definitely recommend the roast. Well done to staff and new owners you’ve definitely brought love and life back into the H&J. .”

“Spoilt for choice in Bramhall for eateries, and having never tried the Nook and Broom before, the family and I thought we'd give it a go. The verdict was unanimous. A great choice of family friendly seating areas, all well lit. A number of small unobtrusive TV's for those who go to watch sports. The food. Oh my goodness the food! Great value and all very well prepared and served in good time. My personal favourite was the 1kg chicken wing sharer. So much so my son and I went back a few days later to take advantage of 'wing Wednesday' 40p per wing (the wings are a good size too) in the sauce of your choice. Then, spotting the breakfast menu had to go back next day to sample the £7 Big Breakfast (see pic). A great spread for seven quid and all done to [my] perfection. Finally, the friendly and attentive staff. Cheers Leon and Olivia for topping off the experience with your professional and welcoming nature. Highly recommend this place for all the above reasons. “Great experience! We took 5 kids bowling for my daughter’s 7th Birthday. The staff were great. We asked to switch lanes to give us a bit more space and they did so happily. We ordered drinks for all of the kids and 2 coffees for us, all great. Sharon was especially friendly and helpful. Thanks for a great time!”

“Been coming in the George for few weeks now after not being here for couple of years. Food menu has changed and is really good. Two meals for £12 on certain days. Can not complain one bit. Bar staff actually have a smile on their faces and make you feel welcome. Quiz nights music pool table live football all a bonus. Dog friendly”
