“The staff here were simply delightful, radiating a warmth and friendliness that made us feel right at home from the moment we walked through the door. Their welcoming nature set a positive tone for the entire afternoon. As for the food, it was nothing short of exceptional. Each dish was prepared with such care and attention to detail, truly a culinary delight. We visited for a late lunch on a Sunday and sampled the Joojeh kabab, an absolute highlight. This chargrilled chicken kebab, served with saffron rice, yogurt, and a fresh salad on the side, was simply divine. The chicken was perfectly cooked and infused with a lovely smoky flavour from the grill, complemented beautifully by the fragrant saffron rice and the creamy yogurt. This dish alone is worth a visit. The atmosphere complemented the experience beautifully. The space was warm and inviting, creating a cosy and relaxed environment perfect for enjoying a meal with friends or family. It felt comfortable and homely, yet with a touch of elegance that made the afternoon feel special. Given our fantastic experience, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Whether you're looking for a spot to enjoy a quiet meal, celebrate a special occasion, or simply savour some excellent food in a lovely setting, this is the best place to eat Persian food close to Portsmouth. From the outstanding service to the exceptional food and the warm, inviting atmosphere, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience from start to finish. If you have the chance to visit, do not hesitate – you will not be disappointed.”
“We tried various starters, including the Taftoon (like a really light, excessively crisp Naan) with Humus, Dolma (stuffed vine leaves) and the not-to-be-missed Mirza Ghasemi (crushed aubergine, garlic, egg and tomato (wow!)). We shared the meat platter for four which was delicious and very filling. You'd never know it from the front but there's an amazing garden out back - this place is evolving from a cafe into a really outstanding restaurant and it's well worth checking it out.”
“A friend recommended this Vietnamese spot—friendly staff and the short rib pho was amazing! The short rib was juicy and tender. Highly recommend.”
“If you ever in the area and in need of healthy lunch, tea break - this is your spot. Friendly staff and super fresh and tasty food. If you on the diet-avoid baked goods section (trust me it's for your own good). Otherwise-speak to staff for recommendations-they know their menu. You won't be disappointed.”
“My wife and I spontaneously decided to have a look at Stones Cafe while looking for somewhere to eat. As you do, we looked at the menu prices outside first. We could certainly say the prices were reasonable. As soon as we entered, you were greeted with plenty of space, a well decorated cafe that was certainly clean. We made our way to the table of our choice and again looked over the menu. The breakfast choices were limited. However, this may not be a bad thing, as this generally does ensure that the less there is on the menu, the better quality it will be. Once my wife and I decided what to eat and drink, I made my way to the counter where I was greeted by a friendly server who assisted me with my choices. Once payment was made the drinks did not follow far behind which I took to the table. As my wife and I were chatting, the staff were doing some cleaning to ensure everything was at its best. This made us happy to see and you can tell that they care about the Cafe. Our food did not follow far behind and came to us within 15 minutes. We both ordered an English Breakfast and we are happy to say it was a well prepared and served breakfast. By no means was it greasy and nothing tasted as if it was frozen or had been sat there for a while. I would certainly come back here again and even bring my family.”
“A cosy and surprisingly large 2-story cafe with lots of outside seating for the warm weather. Parking on the streets nearby. Generously proportioned sandwiches come with a really tasty salad. One bowl of pwefect chips as a side did the three of us. Too full to have cake but they looked nice. Fully dog friendly. Staff are friendly and helpful and service was very prompt.”
“Been meaning to visit for ages as I’ve heard lots of good things and it didn’t disappoint. The staff were really nice and the food was lovely at such a reasonable price. The Veggie Muffin was filling and very yummy. The atmosphere and decor was good whether your upstairs, downstairs or outside. Lots of parking marked with a Dovecote sign. You can book or turn up on the day. We turned up just after opening on a Sunday and there were plenty of tables free. Will be definitely coming back!”
