Today is our anniversary, and from the moment we walked into the restaurant we received a warm welcome. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was lovely. The food was absolutely brilliant. It was our first time here, but we will definitely be regular customers from now on and will recommend it to all of our friends who visit Southampton

The team here were so friendly, and the venue was really cosy. Loved the lobster fettuccine it was absolutely incredible! I also enjoyed the scallops with smoked bell peppers. Thanks for making our day!

My favourite place to eat and enjoy a dining experience in Southampton. I love it here because it’s so traditional and so lovely inside. Max makes you feel at home and is so welcoming. My favourite dish is currently cod but the beauty with Max’s is the dishes change and there’s always something different. The wine is by far the best in town, as a wine fan I know that the selection there is always the best, not mass produced nor any nasty chemicals like some of the cheaper wines I’ve had in other establishments including high end ones…plus you can purchase the bottles you like. We’re regulars now which says it all. One word of advice if you come during theatre times it is packed and very busy so you may not get a table.

The best restaurant in Southampton – and one of the best in the UK! Authentic, delicious Italian food made with high-quality ingredients. The wine selection is exceptional, with a fantastic range of bottles. The restaurant is welcoming, clean, and the outdoor area is truly special – with beautiful touches like grapevines growing on the wall. The service is professional and friendly. A special mention to the owner, Max, for his kindness, charm, and professionalism – he made our experience fun, relaxed, and unforgettable. If you’re in Southampton, this place is an absolute must-visit!

I’ve got back for a snooze after a fantastic 2-course Theatre Menu experience. Fillet Steak - sauce, salad, fries. Done. Tiramisu - Done. The new venue is really well decorated and presented. Plenty of space between tables. I then saw a group booking of 20+ come in, so there’s even extra space behind the scenes! I cannot recommend highly enough. Thank you Team Max!

Visited here as a group of 8 for a birthday, easy to book in advance online and pay £10 deposit per person via PayPal (later removed from the bill). Inside, the restaurant is quite long, tables are fairly cosy but it was fine for us. Staff were very friendly and attentive, Max was also serving and made sure everything went smoothly. All our food came out together and the quality of everything was great. Good portion sizes and full of flavour. I thoroughly enjoyed my monkfish from the specials and some of our group had steaks, which were excellent. There was also a good range of drinks and wines at varying prices, something for everyone. Since COVID I have found at most places, you either get good service or food, nice to get both in this place! Would definitely recommend and would love to go back one day.

Good ambience and good food. Limited menu but they do it well. Tilted towards seafood but has some good vegetarian options as well .

A real family establishment. We went for dinner and had three courses with wine. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. We will come back again!

Lovely meal with friends. We’ve been to Max’s many times over the last few years and it’s always our go-to choice when we want a nice meal. Unfortunately this time the steak, ordered rare, was over cooked but this was rectified very quickly and the second one was perfect (unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of that one). Nice choices of wine. This place isn’t huge so make sure you book! Gluten free options are clearly marked on the menu.
