“I booked a last minute appointment at Loves Farm travel clinic on Friday to renew my Tetanus vaccination. When I arrived I was shown into the private room and the nurse took my blood pressure before giving me my vaccination. My pressure was 224/115 so it turned out I was in a hypertensive crisis and had to go to hospital to be given medication to bring the pressure down. According to the doctor I was a whisper away from an aneurysm, stroke or heart attack!! The shocking thing for me is that I had no history of high blood pressure and no symptoms at all, I felt great! Looking back now I realise that if I hadn’t booked that last minute vaccination appointment and if the pharmacy hadn’t taken my blood pressure as a routine measure, I could have died that weekend. It’s a sobering thought, especially as I’d driven along the motorway that day for work with no concept of the danger I and other road users were in. Loves farm is a great travel clinic and I hope all pharmacists are conducting routine blood pressure testing because I really believe that it saved my life that day.”
