We dined at The Pig in Brockenhurst on 28 December, and while the setting and concept are undeniably attractive, the overall experience felt like style over substance, especially given the price point. The environment and décor are beautifully styled and create a warm, rustic atmosphere. On the whole, the food and drink were good, but not consistently great. Unfortunately, the vegetarian options were particularly poor and unimaginative, which felt disappointing for a restaurant that markets itself as thoughtful, seasonal and ingredient-led. For instance the Squash was just laid on a full plate of lentils. Service was another weak point. There was no real sense of a warm welcome when we arrived, and the experience felt impersonal throughout. There was no major issue but it lacked attentiveness and warmth except for the young lad who was the food runner who was stood out as warm and friendly. We waited over 15 minutes at the bar for our pre-dinner drinks order to be taken, and by the time the drinks arrived, we had barely five minutes to enjoy them before being called into the restaurant. The margarita cocktail itself was also underwhelming, overly diluted with ice and not served in the way you’d expect from a proper margarita. To add to this, the restaurant had run out of the Bakewell Tart dessert, which I only discovered after ordering it. This was at 8:30pm, which felt surprisingly early to be out of a signature pudding. Given the significant cost and the restaurant’s positioning as a luxury dining experience, the service, food availability and vegetarian offering should, and easily could, have been much better. There is clear potential here, but it currently doesn’t quite live up to the expectations set by the branding or the price.

Beautiful resturant and bar area. Stopped by for a drink and the staff were very friendly. Warm and welcoming atmosphere. Sadly won't be back as paying over £10 for a single mulled wine with service charge seems a bit excessive.

The meal tasted like it been cooked by a very enthusiastic 15-year-old who’s depth of knowledge in food was still juvenile? The service was also poor taking 25 minutes From ordering the drinks to receiving them and when they did arrive, it was A different wine to the one we ordered and resembled a Happy Shopper vinegar. In summary very disappointing .

My partner & I came here for our honeymoon dinner celebration. The pig definitely delivered! From entering the building to having our last cocktail, the service was excellent. Bar staff were great & drinks incredible. Menu was great & staff answered questions effortlessly. Food was sublime & we appreciate the token honeymoon fudge. The pig is perfect for a celebration meal. Thank you!

Amazing food in a beautiful setting. We shared the beef and it was melt in your mouth. The new forest raspberry cheesecake was incredibly fluffy and light too. Non alcoholic drink selection very good - Spicy Marg was very good. Would definitely visit again. Was such a treat and the hotel and grounds are stunning

Went for lunch and loved it. Very relaxed atmosphere. Food was sublime. Was slightly surprised by the joint wash room. Cubicles for men and women separated but joint hand washing and mirror. Definitely a problem in some cultures. I felt very self conscious re applying lipstick in that area. Staff were lovely and I enjoyed the experience in every other way.

We ate dinner at the pig and from the moment we opened the front door the service was amazing and we felt welcomed and as if at a friend's house for the evening. We did not have a room at the Pig but were welcomed like anyone else. We had drinks in the bar area before our reservation. A cocktail called Jazz something- deliciously different! The bar staff were very helpful in helping us choose. From there we were invited to our table. Again, amazing table service, Abby was so kind! I could see how it could get loud but the place was not 100% packed when we were there so it wasn't a problem. It is tightly packed though with tables. For two we did three starters (squash with goat cheese was amazing), two mains, and one dessert. Prices were fair given the local dishes, venue and service (coming from London). Very good choice for a special night out, if you are concerned about noise ask for a quiet table in corner. After, we relaxed in the fireplace room for an hour and had a cab take us back to Brockenhurst where we were staying (8 quid).

Setting is really beautiful and the drinks before our lunch were really delicious. Service was fine, but nothing special. I have to say I was quite disappointed with the menu options, and when the food came I was surprised at the very basic presentation. We tried quite a few small plates and a main each and the best bit of the meal was the cocktail. We were pretty excited to eat here, but overall I would say it’s overrated and underwhelming.

WOW WOW WOW!!!! Other restaurants and hotels need to take note, this hotel offers PERFECTION!!!! We were made to feel so unbelievably special. Nothing was a problem. so friendly, kind and helpful. Absolutely beautiful setting, house, grounds and rooms. Amazing attention to detail. The food we ate was outstanding! So much so that my husband had the beef twice :0). I guess one comment would be a touch more vegan options (for myself) but I understand that this hotel is not really about that and that is of course fine. And perhaps some dog friendly rooms so our pooch can experience this too (he'd also love that beef ;0) ). Cannot wait to come back and bring my folks next time. THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

A stay in the hotel, plus dinner proved to be a marvellous experience. All staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Lovely walks around the grounds, especially the walled garden. The food was exceptional, interesting and tasty. Great variety of gins and whiskies available. Yes it's expensive, but the quality of food, service and overall experience makes it a special place to stay.
