“I honestly love this place so much, even if it's just a hospital. Me, being the clumsy person I am, has been here many times, from broken arms to surgeries, physical therapy, etc. Every time, I've enjoyed the experience because of how respectfully I've been treated when I come here. I was terrified and crying the first time I told I had to have surgery, but the staff was so kind with me and reassured me that I would be okay. Many times I have been here, I haven't wanted to leave, and I will always remember the ward they always put me in: D7 West. Thank you, Royal Gwent Hospital, for keeping me safe.”

When I have needed an appointment, they have got me one. Dr Cutinha is always supportive and the reception staff and patient and friendly, evening when I mess up my appointments. When I had a CPN they did their best with the little resources they had. I hope the mental health services will be properly funded so they can do more.”

“The place is a dump and I can't wait for the replacement building. However the Doctors and Nurses are all very good. There have been some issues over repeat prescriptions, but this is usually sorted very quickly. The Website today is playing up on the contact side which I reported. The new E consultation form failed first time and no one got in touch, but the reminder worked and I had a call back straight away. If you have a new system all admin staff need to be trained up. I remained with this practice even though I moved to Pontprennau 20 years ago as the treatment for me and my family is trusted.”

“I spent 7 hours at A&E. The wait was mind-numbing, the waiting room overcrowded, there were too many family/friend groups gathered around patients having a nice chat and clogging up the space. But every single member of staff I met was incredibly kind, patient and hard-working. They even managed to retain a sense of humour. The system they are are working under is inefficient, the strain on their resources is immense, and some of the patients and their families are obnoxious, but they still managed to work their shift efficiently and with empathy. I have nothing but respect for these people.”

“Wonderful maternity care. I’ve had to visit the Grange 3 times over the past year. Once a year ago following a miscarriage, then last week with bleeding to the emergency gynaecology dept and then for my 8 week scan. All 3 visits were as good as they can be in the circumstances. They were kind and compassionate during my miscarriage. And when we came in for the emergency visit, they were calm, looked after us and let us rest in a private room which was helpful with my cramping as I could lie down. They also sorted someone to come in a do a scan to reassure that we had a heartbeat, which was the first time we had heard that /gotten as far. We lost our dog the next day, so the extra time they spent to give us that moment really helped us get through an awful day. Then for my scan, all was smooth, professional and quick. But what was really amazing was Sandra (who looked after us after the miscarriage) called me when I had more questions after we left. She answered them all factually and really helped to calm me and but my overactive imagination to rest. Wonderful wonderful anti-natal services. Thank you!”

“I had a GP appointment today. I saw Dr Ali who really listened to me and was very good. I had to make an appointment at reception to have a surgical suture removed that had been in for 4 weeks. The receptionist said there were no upcoming appointments and all the nurses were fully booked today. She really tried her best and emailed all the nurses and asked me to wait in the waiting room. I was called in almost immediately to see a nurse called Charlene. She removed the suture and then said she would take bloods at the same time, instead of me having to come back in 3 weeks. She was so nice and helpful. I am very happy with the service I received from everyone at Malpas brook today.”

I have been able to get home visits for me and my husband when needed, referrals to other health care when neccessary and the call back feature when you ring is much better than being on hold for ages. Staff are all lovely and everything is spotless. As they have a very large patient list it can occasionally be a little difficult to get an appointment but if you really need to see someone they will do their utmost to see you”
