“Went in at tea time on a Wednesday and had a delicious rag pudding. The pudding, chips, peas and gravy were all amazing, I would highly recommend. Staff were also lovely and helpful. Pub looks amazing too and was very busy for the day and time. Staff have done really well to get the pub to where it is. Get in there and get some food in you.”

“Great pub. Great live entertainment every Friday and Saturday nights. Made this our local about 6 months ago and nowhere comes anywhere near to matching the friendliness of the staff and other locals. Fantastic atmosphere and a proper pub. Never have to wait long to be served, even when the place is rammed. Our nights out are always made more enjoyable, and our thirsts suitably quenched, by the fabulous Francesca and the rest of the friendly, amazing and eager bar staff.”

I love the Boars Head I've been frequently the place since I was a teenager and now I live in Ireland I still make a point of going in the place when I return to my home town of Stockport. It's a nice traditional pub with a warm and friendly clientele with beers and spirits at very reasonable prices.”

“We have started to go now regularly on a Sunday lunchtime . The staff are a real credit to this pub always lovely to chat to them they are so friendly and polite . The food is excellent and it has a lovely atmosphere . It’s a hidden gem really.”

“Came here yesterday for 1 with family around 5pm and was served by the gentleman, I didn't get his name but he was kind and polite. It looked like it was just him on considering its a Saturday so I was pretty shocked about that. But nonetheless the service he provided was prompt and effective. Pool table available, plenty of TVs and areas to sit around the pub as well as outside. Nice little find”

“I have visited this pub for over 40 years and it has had its ups and downs. It is most certainly now on an UP. The Holts bitter is consistently good and the Landlord and all the staff are friendly and welcoming. Nothing not to like.”

“This is one of the best pubs in the area. I have been going here on and off since way before it was renovated last time and Julie and her team work hard to make this a fun and welcoming place to go. There is no food but the cost of a pint is reasonable, has live music every weekend, has a small enclosed outdoor area and you are not constantly looking over your shoulder. How often do you hear the words “We have had to shut the front door as we are full” in pubs any more! Keep up the good work Julie.”

“We ordered the pepperoni pizza and chips, and everything was delicious — perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and served fresh. After that, we enjoyed a lovely coffee while relaxing by the wooden chimney, which made the whole experience feel warm and cozy. Great food, great atmosphere — highly recommended!”

“The beating heart of Moss side. A great Manchester pub of historical significance for Man City fans in particular. The management are warm and passionate, the regulars friendly and good humoured. Whether on your own for a quick pint or in a big group you will always find someone to chat and laugh along with, as all pubs should be!”

“We visited the shady oak tonight, to try the new menu! We were served by the lovely Michelle who gave us our free glass of Prosecco and told us about what to expect for the taster night. We tried and reviewed all these plates; bread, patè and olives - lovely patè but would be happy with less. Really liked the spicier patè and a nice portion of olives. Hallumi fries - I really enjoyed these, big portion but my partner isn’t keen on honey so he wasn’t into them as much as me. Salt and pepper wings - we both really enjoyed these and would come back just for these! Cajun wings - We liked these but not as much as the salt and pepper ones! Padron peppers - Wasn’t keen on these, maybe because we wouldn’t order them. If you want vegetarian choices there is probably better options out there. Salt and pepper squid - Nice flavour but abit chewy, definitely keep them paired with sweet chilli! Flat iron steak - We would definitely come back just for this. It was cooked perfectly to our liking and melting in the mouth. Lovely peppercorn sauce too! Wasn’t too bothered about the fried onions on the side. Shady oak burger sliders - These were so nice and juicy and as someone who prefers chicken burgers I really enjoyed it! Curry of the week - Not a curry we would choose as we prefer creamier currys like Korma, Butter Chicken, Tikka but was tasty, not too spicy and a good amount of chicken! We will definitely be back again soon to try more dishes and re order some of these ones too!”

“The new owners have really done the old pub proud. Beautifully furnished, great service and fantastic food. The food was outstanding. Definitely recommend the roast. Well done to staff and new owners you’ve definitely brought love and life back into the H&J. .”

“I've been going to The Urmston regularly for almost 10 years now! My friends and I started going to the Pub Quiz there on Thursdays back in 2016 and we still go to this day! We've made many friends through the quiz and we love all of the locals too. The staff here have always made us feel welcome and that's why we still go week in, week out! Plus, the food is really good too! My family and I often enjoy dropping in for a Sunday dinner now and again.”

“Called in while driving past. I have visited many times over the years and have not been disappointed with the food. Plenty of choice of meat and vegetables. They often have a choice of pie as well. I can't comment on the other menu just the carvery. I always enjoy the food when I visit and would recommend it to anyone wanting a carvery.”

“Great Atmosphere nice friendly people They have a quiz/bingo/play your cards right on Tuesday afternoon around 1pm. On a Tuesday they also put food on I.e. hotdogs or a curry or perhaps a chilli, you can never be sure which.”

“Best pub in Swinton by a country mile and by far the cheapest too. DJ on at the weekends and occasionally a live singer. No real ale (it would just not sell here) But plenty of other options. Great staff and good service.”
