“This is a fantastic place, for a meal, or for drink or two. The menu is varied, the quality of the meals is amazing, they are very tasty and a very reasonable price. My favourite is the steak pie, it is something else, full of meat, and like other choices very enjoyable. I have taken my elderly mum several times, it’s firm favourite of hers and mine. I also enjoy a good night out with friends there, the drinks menu is varied, and the atmosphere friendly and welcoming. If I could give this place more than five stars, I would, it is that good.”

“A truly wonderful place to stay! The hotel room was spacious, stylish, and spotless, providing the perfect retreat after a day of exploring. What truly sets this hotel apart, however, is the outstanding service. The staff were proactive and incredibly kind, always there to help with a smile. The dining experience was equally impressive. The meals we had at the restaurant were exquisite and left us wanting more. I can't recommend this place highly enough”

“Out first time visiting in over a year. Came for a Birthday/anniversary meal as a family. Food was really good and really big portion sizes for the price! Booked in advance to sit up in the orchard room as its much quieter so I'd recommend that!”

“Nice/pub/restaurant/inn. Good rooms, plenty of parking, quite road which was originally the A1 up till 1960, now bypassed so it is quiet. Large garden with children's play area at the back. A good selection of meals available, mainly around £15 to £20. A good place to stop if you are travelling from London to the Lake District/Northumberland/Edinburgh.”

“Visited several times for meals always cooked to perfection. Sunday lunch did not disappoint the pork just melted in my mouth. All the vegetables are fresh and served piping hot. Would definitely recommend. Staff are welcoming, friendly and nothing too much trouble”

“Just been for an early evening meal. What a beautiful restaurant, with a lovely welcoming ambience. The menu is amazing and covers all food choices, and the chef was lovely, giving us complimentary bread and dips, and an alternative dish to sample that he was trying out. The waiting staff were suburb, especially Chloe who was so lovely and attentive. I can highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning very soon.”

“we've been going to The crown and Anchor for perhaps over a yr now. we live close to Chesterfield town centre and enjoy Friday nights in this pub . we visit perhaps a few times a month. really nice atmosphere and staff are very welcoming and friendly. The pub raise alot of money for different charity's., great entertainment and quizzes. highly recommend!!”

Landlords both amazing, even when they have to deal with people who don't listen to them when they tell them they can come in even though it's a members bar. There's another members bar in the area, but they charge for entry, and the beer's more expensive, but that's maybe what certain people prefer?”

“Have recently been using James the junior barber recently and the service has been fantastic, barbering and styling is truly on point. Throughout the pandemic the team have worked hard to keep all their customers safe. Visiting this barbers is truly an excellent experience. I have and will continue to recommend James and The Gentleman's Retreat to people.”
