“Amazing cafe with delicious food and fantastic big yummy coffee! We had latte and long black for coffee and they were great coffees, my husband had a second cup after food! I had beef chimichanga and he had vegan sandwiches which we both absolutely love! My beef roll was super yummy and very generous in size! Definitely a recommended dish! Lovely cafe and even more friendly staff!!!”

“Rankin’s Cafe is an absolute delight. The service is prompt and friendly, the setting is charming with the Forth bridge visible over the top of the pretty village houses. Both times we visited our daughter had the kids breakfast which she loved. I was very happy to find a full vegetarian breakfast on the menu (including delicious vegetarian haggis). The food, the atmosphere, the service is all great. Highly recommend!”

“I went with a friend, and chose to get there at 11:15am to get seated, as you can't book parties of two. We got a seat just in time for me to order a full Scottish breakfast, which they removed a few items from at my request - it was totally delicious - well cooked bacon, sausages were also well cooked, but nice and soft texture, perfect fried egg! Runny yolk, and nice non-rubbery white, baked beans... pots of tea. My friend had a burger and chips, which she polished off and then she had a gluten free apple cake and a latte! They let me get a lentil soup to go, and the shop has yummy tablet, and a lot of German beer and lager. Staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. Best breakfast I've ever had! “Was recommended this place by a friend who lived in Edinburgh. We came with a lot of expectation since it is booked out fast, and we booked way in advance. Still, very positively surprised by all the dishes. Menu sounds like any typical brunch, but special creativity was added to each dish. The mushroom toast is really amazing, sourdough toast was just right. Staff were also very attentive!”

“The Lodge Coffee House – A Caffeinated Trip into the Surreal Nestled in the caffeinated underbelly of Edinburgh lies The Lodge Coffee House, a stone sanctum where time sips itself backwards and espresso machines hum ancient jazz riffs. Upon entering, we were greeted by Mick, a man forged from equal parts kindness, bacon, and 80's nostalgia. Like a caffeinated Gandalf, he emerged from the steam with eyes full of welcome and hands full of bacon barms. He threw them at us, not aggressively, but like a benevolent goblin flinging gifts at chosen mortals. The coffee.... the coffee. Brewed by a barista who may have once been a shaman, the flat white shared secrets. The atmosphere, like being hugged by a velvet bear in a log cabin built by monks who understand everything. We had a chat with Mick about life, meat, and the nature of gravy. At one point, he levitated slightly while describing his sausage procurement strategy. The location is prime, trees bowed politely as we sipped. In short, The Lodge is not just a coffee house. It’s a mystical experience wrapped in cured meat and friendliness. Five out of five cosmic beans. Would definitely go again.”

“I've lived nearby the entire time this place has existed here, yet never once stepped inside for a meal until today. ...I regret my past self's ignorance. Myself and my parents, 3 very different meals but they nailed them. My burger tasted great, wasn't oversized and they knew how to make a good chip. The curry we asked for a little heat to it (as it was advertised as being mild) and it came out at the right spiciness, and the kare kare was quite light but great tasting as well. Desserts were pretty large, obviously homemade and delicious. Sit in prices were pretty cheap, the takeaway option looked like it would be even cheaper! I'd certainly label this somewhat of a hidden gem. I attach the photo of my dessert, the combination of my two favourite desserts, cookie dough and cheesecake. A thing of beauty, if not exceptionally sweet!”
