“I’ve been to many restaurants, those which include restaurants that have multiple Michelin stars. I am super critical with reviews, but I never thought it would come to the day I would say this.. but this food “is food that brings you back home… back home to your mother”. That’s so rare in this day and age and think how much of an expert someone has to be to create that with Thai food for someone coming from Sri Lankan origin. Every ingredient is fresh, the blend of spices, the quality of meat and the food expertly made brings a dish which is truly homemade and delicious. I have never experienced anything that tastes truly homemade from a restaurant outside the home. I feel great after eating this too compared to other takeaways as it’s so natural. This is hands down the best restaurant in St Albans. Kat and her partner are such a superb couple running this restaurant, they are incredibly kind and accommodated to a special birthday request. They both came out and greeted us, which was super kind of them and proved many things but the biggest.. this is homemade food, food made from the heart. You want to try true Thai food.. don’t bother with the £800 flight, come here - to this very place a drive away in a lovely home situated in St Albans and you will experience it first hand. “We came here on Valentine's Day's evening. It was our first time and did so after reading the good reviews. The lady at the front was superb, she patiently helped us with the menu and answered all of our questions even though she was busy receiving phone calls and customers coming in. The overall experience was excellent and definitely this is our Chinese restaurant to go from now on. We will repeat very soon for my daughter's birthday. Unfortunately, there were two dishes that we didn't like but this is a subjective opinion, we can't complain about the cooking, it is a personal taste. Black bean sauce has both a strong smell and taste that we didn't like but we liked beef and vegetables' textures. Also, the chicken with mushrooms brought us back images of hospital meals with plain boil chicken; the mushrooms, however, were great. We will try other dishes next time. Nonetheless, let me say how good were both the big (filled with small pieces of meat and other ingredients that I don't know but crunchy and delicious) and mini spring rolls (more pastry than filling with a tiny spicy trace), sweet and sour chicken (battered), chicken in sweet lemon sauce, special fried rice and special fried soft noodles (we would rather prefer them with more dressing but were not dried. Some more soya sauce could do the trick). Very quick cooking times, this must be due to a great mise en place. Well done chef! There are fortune cookies available for 20p each which come individually sealed and wrapped. Good prices, very good value for money. £10 minimum for card payments. There is a cash machine nearby that charges £1.90 for withdrawals. Parking is free on the road except from 11am to midday. They don't deliver to Edmonton Green but we are a quick short car ride away. In addition, the local had a cozy, clean, tidy and warm ambient that we liked while waiting for the order to be cooked. This is not like a chicken & chips shop full of grease and disturbing young people around. It might be because it was during the half term, can't really tell. Just in case, I earn no commission with my review and I am very critical. I am leaving my honest first experience. Updates will follow if needed.”

“It was an absolute delight to finally find an oriental store with everything I wanted. The store was very well stocked with an assortment to make your mouth water, and help always at hand. Everything was well labelled, priced, clean and tidy.....puts some supermarkets to shame!! I only went in to see the store, and came out with 2 full bags. The prices are incredibly competitive, and the service is excellent. Thank you Mofz, I will definitely visit again. Just noticed they also have a store in East London, that's wonderful!!!”

“I didn’t notice there was such a good, authentic chinese restaurant at elephant and castle. it easily became one of my favourites, with actual high quality chinese food. it was so good we couldn’t help but order more despite being so full!! the wonton soup is a must try (you could request for noodles with it). the salt baked french beans was new to me but so delicious and refreshing. the shrimp in kung po sauce was amazing (and authentic too). the crab fried rice was my favourite tho, the dryness of the dish was just right. finally they gave us desserts on the house, the chocolate cake was really good, not too spongey nor too sweet.”

“My family and I really enjoyed our dinner from Oriental Chef. We tried different things and it was all perfect! Very tasty food! The chilli oil is absolutely the best I've had. It is very spicy so for anyone who enjoys spice, definitely try their chilli oil. Service was really good too! I called up to place my order and the woman on the phone was very polite and helpful. Delivery came in 30 minutes. I highly recommend this place.”

“ordered a kung po chicken , egg fried rice and salt and chilli pepper chicken. i believe it took less than 15 minutes for the whole order to be prepared. food tasted really good and quite worth for its price (20£) as I’ve got half left over and im quite a big eater. The kung po chicken doesn't really taste like the authentic ones I’ve had and leans towards the sweet and sour side but it still tastes good nonetheless. Will definitely be back (a bag of prawn crackers was also given)”

“Anyone that downstars this place doesn't know the difference between buffet food and restaurant food. This is best buffet style food I've had in years. And actually, their ribs are better than most restaurants/takeaways in the area. And they're a little cheaper, which is a plus. To summaries: expect buffet style food and you'll be massively impressed with this place. Excellent.”

“Don't let the book cover fool ya. As an Asian foreigner, the food is above average and very cost effective. My two favorites are the house special rice (#13) and the beef chow fun (#28g). Great portions if you eat in. Must try if you live in the area. They also do delivery if you order more than 10 quid (within 2km).”

“We were in London recently and we wanted to try somewhere different to the other places we had eaten at previously, and we were so glad we discovered Orient. We were greeted by a very friendly young lady who gave my girlfriend advice (as she doesn't like too spicy food) on some recommendations, and I was delighted to see that they done an extensive curry range (as some of the places we had visited in Chinatown previously did not have any curry's on the menu). The decor was very nice and the place was very clean. ALL the staff we dealt with were so friendly and they could not have been anymore helpful, and we were given ample time to browse the menu at their extensive menu range. The service was very quick. On our first visit I got prawn crackers and sesame prawn toast for a starter. And the main I chose a beef curry with Thai fragrance steamed rice. The beef was absolutely beautiful, it was thinly cut and was SO tender and perfectly cooked. The rice was perfectly cooked. My girlfriend got Spring Rolls for a starter, and for her main she got sweet & sour spare ribs, and she said it was absolutely beautiful. On our second visit I got a lamb curry with the Thai fragranced steamed rice and my girlfriend got Pork belly with preserved vegetables and noodles and beansprouts, and again it was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. Another thing I will add is we both got the Lychee juice, and it was lovely, and it went very nicely with our food, and we had not seen this type of juice at other places. And again on our second visit the staff were exceptionally friendly and the service again, very quick. We both were of the same opinion that the Orient will be our go to place for a Chinese meal when we are in London, and we both cannot wait to go back again and sample their delicious food again.”

“Oriental City is our go to every Friday night as it’s by far the best Chinese in Elm Park and surrounding. Loveliest staff who make you feel welcome and always up beat and great to chat with. Food is always fresh and really tasty, they deliver exceptionally quickly where the food is always hot and they never forget a thing. Trust me we’ve tried all local Chinese takeaways several times…and oriental city is head and shoulders above. I’m quick to avoid the same takeaway again if they take too long to deliver, food quality dips week to week etc but this is never the case with Oriental City!
