“It’s very difficult and sometimes rare to find a counsellor/ therapist who is the right fit. However I feel that the lady I was booked with was just who I needed for support at that time. I had my sessions with Claire Norbury (I hope she doesn’t mind me mentioning her name on here), who I’d actually seen for therapy coincidentally 10 years ago and I remember how comfortable she made me feel when I was suffering with severe anxiety following trauma, as a young adult. My recent experience of therapy began again last year with Claire and lasted almost a whole year, I think she tried her best to drag it out as long as possible for me as she knew how much I needed it and how much each session helped me, and also I have physical health conditions which meant I ended up missing a few sessions due to ill health and had to reschedule. Claire was also very understanding and empathetic about this and very patient when we had to reschedule or if I was running a few minutes late. She was just so down to earth and made me feel at ease, I also felt our personalities were a little similar which made a massive difference with understanding each other and communication. I could sometimes also just sit there in the session in complete silence (freezing) and unable to muster up words after off loading details of an event, and it didn’t feel awkward or uncomfortable. I just felt like I was in a safe space and could respond however felt right - silence, crying, blurting a load of words out not making sense, or struggling to get words out, or even sometimes laughing! And occasional humour within the session (when we both felt it was appropriate of course) actually helped ground me in the sessions and didn’t make them feel so wooden or clinical. I’ve had a lot of different complex traumatic experiences that we went through together and I unloaded A LOT. A lot of tears, a lot of deep personal, disturbing events that I went through, sometimes a lot of just rambling! I also have ADHD so obviously on top of everything else sometimes that made it hard to communicate what I wanted to get across and deal with everything just completely scattered in my brain (especially as I’m also unmediated with no support for it). So I want to thank Claire for always listening so intently and with my best interest, helping me digest and process a lot of things that had happened in the past, how it effects me today, how to deal with it going forward. Also helping guide me through the current difficulties I was facing in life as well as past traumas. I felt supported, listened to and validated in every session with Claire, as a therapist but also as a human. Thank you so much for helping me in my healing process. The work you do is invaluable and I am forever grateful. Sorry it’s taken months for me to write this but better late than never! And I also wanted to give hope to others struggling that there are therapists out there who are genuine people and care about you and what they do.”

“What can I say about Debbie? There’s not enough words to describe how professional, compassionate, and caring she is. My daughter has suffered for years with debilitating phobia and anxiety of being sick, feeling sick and an overall fear of being ill. Debbie was amazing with her, after the 4 session programme my daughter is a new person. She said she feels happy and lighter, and can finally look forward to doing things without having her “sick radar” on. My daughter is 13 and I was starting to worry this phobia would lead to an eating disorder and possible ocd, but Debbie has helped shape her mind again and teach her methods to keep it at bay. We are going to carry on and see Debbie every 6 weeks purely for the relationship she’s built up with my daughter and the trust. And to keep on top of her phobia so she can live her life to the fullest. Thank you Debbie, for everything!”

“When i arrived at changes i was terrified of my own shadow. Changes has supported me through illness, loss and alcoholism, encouraging me and teaching me to learn to live with and not suffer with mental health! It actually does here what it says in their mission statement. I am now part of a special group of people i class as a second family who help me to make good decisions and i hopefully help them. Through taking part in the workshops i have become not ashamed of myself. I accept who i am and don't focus on what I'm not, which was a biggy for me. Thank you to everyone there at Changes that I've met, but also those behind the scenes. It takes each and everyone of us for Changes to work as well as it does. I have also seen many folk get well through attending the peer support groups and confidentially problem solving overwhelming issues that everybody has. Definitely 5 stars”

“I sought Mary out for counselling when I was finding life too tough to process and had been shutting down my emotions as I was too afraid to deal with them. I wasn't expecting her to be able to help as much as she did. She gently helped me unpick past and present situations to understand them better, process them and then together work out how to cope. She also mentored me with great wisdom through ministry roles after. She has helped me through periods of depression and anxiety like symptoms. The techniques and truths we talked through are still a great help to me today.”
“I knew very little about EMDR when I first met Karen. She gave me the confidence to explore trauma dating back many years, which was still impacting me negatively. Karen has great empathy and she creates a welcoming, safe space where I could feel secure and understood. EMDR has been an amazing, positive experience. Karen has taken me through it at my pace, explaining the process thoroughly and compassionately. I am feeling the benefits after only a few sessions. It really works ! I have no hesitance in recommending both Karen and EMDR.”
“I was recommended CAYP after years of yoyo-ing in and out of services and support. My first contact was followed up promptly and I was fully informed of the process and payment structure. All contact was friendly, honest and professional. The space was clean and tidy/fit for purpose. I had direct contact with the professional working with us throughout. Face to face assessments, although challenging were conducted in a considered, understanding and as stress free way as possible. I felt like a thorough, collaborative and indepth assessment was done. The final diagnosis report was concluded in a timely manner. It is comprehensive and informative. I would certainly recommend CAYP Psychology Newcastl-Under-Lyme. One thing to note, if you book a taxi, it doesn't pin point on the maps and systems correctly so I chose morrisons as a pick up point which is just a short walk away.”
