“Went here to celebrate 25 yrs since our first date and we were looked after by all the staff who couldn't have done any more for us if they tried. When we arrived there was a card and bottle of prosecco on our table from the staff which was a lovely gesture. Food was spot on on arrival you got tea and biscuits then a 3 course meal to have as and when you wanted it then afternoon tea was served. All other staff that took us and looked after us in the parade and winners enclosures were so friendly and made you feel special. If you want to have a great day at the races with wonderful staff I highly recommend Pontefract Racecourse.”

Moxy York immediately stood out with its fun, urban, and modern vibe. The downstairs area is full of character, decorated with eye-catching urban art, hanging pod chairs, plenty of selfie spots, and even a photobooth complete with dress-up hats and caps. The luggage carts by the entrance were incredibly helpful when we arrived with multiple suitcases. The overall first impression was stylish, energetic, and welcoming. Cleanliness & Safety Concerns
The hotel was clean throughout — from the reception area to the lifts and guest rooms. The lifts are secure and won’t operate until you scan your room key, which we appreciated as an added safety feature. CCTV inside the lifts added an extra layer of reassurance. The bathrooms, both in the public areas and our room, were spotless, and the baby-changing facilities downstairs were spacious with a wide sliding door that easily accommodates a pram. Food Quality
Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of hot and cold options, good coffee, cereals, pastries, fresh fruit, and a variety of juices. Gluten-free options were clearly available, and we loved the sign that mentioned vegetarian sausages cooked to order—just ask a staff member. Everything was well stocked and fresh. The bar also served well-priced soft drinks, and we appreciated the free pints of cold ice water when requested. Ambience & Surroundings
The ambience at Moxy York is playful and modern, with thoughtful design details such as bright pink filler used deliberately to highlight cracks in the concrete floor—turning something ordinary into part of the décor. There’s a beer garden, a pool table, books, board games, magazines like Empire, and even a free retro Street Fighter arcade machine. Everywhere you look, there’s something creative or fun. Every member of staff we interacted with was polite, friendly, and eager to help. The front-desk team created such a welcoming environment. We loved the gesture of a free cocktail or mocktail each on arrival. They even had special offers like a 20% student discount and a free mimosa for graduates on the day we visited. Dog owners will appreciate the custom stand at reception with water bowls for both large and small dogs. Small touches like free cucumber water at the bar and umbrellas available to rent added to the sense that Moxy pays attention to guest comfort. Facilities

Bathroom amenities including shampoo, conditioner, hand wash, and body wash The room was quiet with no banging or noise from other floors, leading to a very peaceful night’s sleep — something not all hotels manage successfully. Although there is no on-site car park, there is a Q-Park nearby and several other parking options within walking distance via parking apps. Signing up for Marriott Bonvoy is worthwhile too, as it makes Wi-Fi sign-in quicker and lets you collect points. Overall

The milkshake was tasty if a little pricey - it was £4.95, where we would be happier with ~£4. The cheesy chips did use cheese sauce which we don't like, but nothing wrong with it, just our preference. We will be back - thanks!”

“Probably the best Indian in the area. Unlike most places they run a small menu meaning the dishes are well made. The nan is the best i've had and a perfect accompaniment to the meal. Cleanliness needs some attention, the floor was dirty and needs a good scrub.”

“I use an electric wheelchair and that usually means being shoved out of the way at gigs and concerts. I saw Kid Kapichi in the Key Club, last night. I was escorted into the venue by a very friendly member of security and after being shown where the accessible toilets were and given basic safety information, was given permission to sit in front of the stage. There was no argument about my assistant being given a seat, it’s so much easier to communicate with an assistant if they are on the same level as a person using a wheelchair, especially in a crowded and noisy gig. I have seen Kid Kapichi a few times in other venues. The helpful and friendly attitude of the staff made that my favourite Kid Kapichi show, ever! I shall definitely be returning.”

“We went it for a pre show meal at the theatre and was so happy with the atmosphere, decor, staff and the food was outstanding. We precooked and were greeted by a lovely staff member and we were quickly seated then moved as there was a light flickering and we had a party member with epilepsy (they were very accommodating) We had a look at the menu and they have a good selection the meals are little more expensive then average but there worth every penny. We ordered and the meals came out quickly, hot and looked amazing. The food was impeccable and we were over the moon with what we ordered and decided to treat ourselves to a dessert and we were very happy with our puds as well. Overall a fantastic experience with amazing food and wonderful staff and can't wait to go back there again and I have already recommended this restaurant too others”

The food is always perfect but the main reason is the customer service The lads here are fantastic all really friendly no matter what time you go in and the service is always 10/10. “Lived at one of Avenue's 1 bedroom flats for over 2 years. The flat was done up to a very high standard. Any issues I had were fixed very promptly even during non working hours. The staff were very welcoming, understanding and made me feel comfortable at all times. When I moved out my deposit was returned within the expected timescales. I'd definitely recommend Avenue Propeties to anyone in need of a place.”
