The bar area was a nice space, cocktails were really good as were the fresh coffees, the staff were friendly whilst professional at all times. Breakfast was very good too, constantly topped up with fresh food, decent variety of food on offer. The whole team throughout the hotel work extremely efficiently. You can often judge a place by their reaction when things go wrong and there was a very difficult intoxicated man in the bar area on Friday evening. The staff worked swiftly, professionally & effectively in removing him without disruption to other guests.”

“Having stayed at Shaw Hill Hotel last weekend and having read some of the previous reviews I feel I have to comment. Yes the hotel is an older building - it gives it character. We stayed in room 19 and didn't have any issues. The room was very clean, the shower worked perfectly and the water pressure was fine. The staff were fantastic and breakfast was great. None of your buffet breakfast here - freshly cooked food to order. Maybe you just can't please all of the people all of the time and some people are very hard to please these days! We had a great stay and were glad we chose to ignore the negativity.”

“I’ve been with the gym for 10 years, Carolyn has been amazing she’s helped me get back into training after having my daughter and is always friendly and helpful. She was great throughout the lockdown breaks making sure to inform me when the gym was open and how to go about booking classes and she’s always encouraging and supportive. She was great with my elderly mum when she joined the gym too, helping her figure out the booking system and guiding her through the class rota. If you’re thinking of joining you should ask for her.”

I’ve been a member for a number of years now and have always found the staff excellent especially the receptionist, big shout out to Gill who is always pleasant and welcoming with a big smile and cheerful hello. The changing area and toilets are always clean and well maintained. The personal trainer Steph who works with us is fabulous . I have also made use of the on site physiotherapist again excellent, at the end of a work out it’s nice to relax in the cafe and enjoy a bite to eat and a coffee. which I suppose explains why I have been a member for so long.”

The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We spent some time in the enclosed garden, shielded from the elements. Breakfast was also enjoyable, staff being very helpful and friendly despite obviously being very busy. We only had an overnight stay, but we were made very welcome.”

“Afternoon tea was amazing last week, we booked a table for 12 people and were amazed how good it looked when we all arrived. Table was dressed up It had lots of xmas ribbons and lace thanks to staff member Amy. Food was just brilliant lots of fresh sandwiches, cakes and some lovely warm scones.
