Carlos brought my full order to my table and made sure I had everything I needed. Catherine bused the dishes from my table when I was finished and ensured I was satisfied with everything. “Probably the best coffee place in Manchester, I go out of my way to get a mocha here. Really good and flavourful coffee that is well priced for central Manchester, nice vibes and place to chill though it is quite small so seating is limited especially if you want a table. Baristas are nice and knowledgeable about all the difference beans as well”

“Visited today, with my friend and my toddler. They didn’t have many options for kids but that’s fine as my son was more interested in a sausage roll from the bakery. The food me and my friend had though was absolutely delicious, really well made. The coffee was really good quality too, a really well made cup of coffee not burnt or too hot.”

We had one of our coffee machines recently serviced by Luke, who was great, providing a thorough service along with a replacement pump which id been meaning to do for a while. “I visited Costa Gatley Sunday afternoon — a clean, well-maintained store with a cosy atmosphere and a good selection of food options. However, what stood out during my visit was an interaction at the till that left me quite surprised, and not in a good way. When I ordered a medium hot drink, the young girl serving me actively discouraged the choice. She suggested I go for a smaller size, saying: “There’s not much difference in size — go for the small and save some pennies.” As someone who has run a business for over a decade, I found this quite concerning. In most places, staff are trained to upsell — encouraging customers to consider larger sizes or additional items, which is standard practice in retail and hospitality. Her approach, while possibly well-intentioned, directly goes against basic principles of sales and revenue generation. Encouraging customers to spend less, especially unprompted, may seem kind, but it’s ultimately damaging to the business. In my view, this isn’t just unprofessional — it’s a risk to the long-term health of the store. Costa may want to consider reviewing training procedures to ensure staff understand the balance between customer service and commercial awareness. Thank you”

What stood out even more was the care David took while preparing it: checking the grind, timing the extraction, and serving it with a brief explanation of what to expect. It’s the kind of attention to detail that shows he takes pride in his craft. Beyond the coffee, David’s presence contributes to the overall atmosphere of the café. He moves with efficiency during busy stretches without ever making customers feel rushed. I noticed him quietly anticipating needs—refreshing water glasses, wiping down the bar between orders, and checking in with guests at the perfect moments. He also seems to have built rapport with many regulars, greeting them by name and remembering their usual orders, which says a lot about both his consistency and the community feel he helps foster. In an industry where service can often feel transactional, David’s approach stands out. He brings expertise, personality, and an obvious passion for coffee, turning a simple visit into something memorable. If you stop by this café, I’d highly recommend ordering at the bar—you’ll likely learn something new and leave with a drink that’s crafted with exceptional care.”

“Random stop for coffee. After visiting Bolton Museum for the Reebok Exhibition, I strolled into Bolton looking around the market place. Up the escalators and to the left I saw this coffee shop. It looked clean, attractive and modern so I checked it out. When I entered I saw I could order a coffee on the tablet display stand. Making my order was easy and straightforward. After I paid, I saw a member of staff making my drink straight away. It was a Saturday around 1.30pm. The coffee came in a paper cup and lid and I took a seat outside the shop but inside the cordons. The coffee, a latte, was great tasting, and presented well. Just what I needed. I recommend this place if you're around Bolton town centre.”

“What we really like about going to this Costa is that most times we are there there it's not too busy. Tables are spaced out well so that they don't tend to feel claustrophobic. The music is not too heavy, so we are able to enjoy both it and conversation. Not always a great selection of foodstuffs. And, although you can use your Costa card to add points, you can't redeem them at this location (bit of a pain). Still, it has also thought about families with very young children in providing a few things to do. On the whole, it's not a bad place to visit if you don't mind paying the Costa prices!”
