“First visit to the Playhouse. 10/10 - comfortable seats, very informal, great sound and lighting. Loved Emilio ❤️ Can’t wait to return and wish all theatres were like this.”
“Lovely old theatre, centrally located, seats quite comfortably with leg room so your knees are not rammed up against the seat in front. We saw Thank ABBA for the music. They are a fantastic group, the best abba tribute band around, the stage, lighting and even base sound was spot on. The staff were friendly and efficient, a credit to Blackwood. The theatre brings people into Blackwood town for pre theatre drinks and meals, which helps local businesses. Let’s hope Caerphilly county council realise this and don’t close the place. Thank you for a wonderful evening.”
“Excellent theatre, staff friendly and helpful, relaxed environment. Fantastic performance, thoroughly enjoyed. Well worth a visit or two.”
“Great theatre - had seats in front row of the Upper Circle - supposedly restricted view because of the handrail but didn't get in the way at all (though I am tall). Excellent view. Good performance of TOSCA by WNO.”
“Went to the slimming world class there. Lovely class and you can get a coffee afterwards.”
“Great show. Kids loved it!! A little gem tucked away in Abertillery!”
“In May 2025 we attended a shortened performance of The Marriage of Figaro at Southampton Mayflower theatre as part of my daughter’s Bronze Art Award. She thoroughly enjoyed it and would attend more opera in future.”
“I have had an excellent experience with Ignite performance academy. I have had two castings in my first week joining and am very excited for what the future holds. Having had several agents in the past, I can truly say that Ignite are the most efficient, friendly and best agency I have experienced. I highly recommend them.”
“Wow! fantastic re launch, fresh and clean with smiles everywhere from staff and patrons, great service and great entertainment with a very positive outlook, keep on with the great work.”
“I love this cinema so much! Free street parking available evenings and all day Sundays - car parks available just off the main road at other times. Reasonable prices for tickets. £4 pp weekends & £3.50 pp during the week. We’ve never needed to book online (although that option is available) we always turn up on the day & manage to get tickets. Located on the main Blackwood high street, close to various shops / cafes and pubs.”
“First time at this venue. Now that St. David's is closed this is now the main place. Just saw Stewart Lee and this venue was perfect as it is a nice size for comedy. Will definitely be back. For anyone coming by train it is a 15 to 20 minute walk from Cardiff Central.”
“Me and my dad went just for the gallery and we absolutely loved and analyzed the current exhibition. We really like what the artists were expressing and felt the difficulties endured by those immigrant women. It was thought provoking. We got a pleasant and interesting visit. I recommend this place especially if you're into modern art.”
“A lovely park to walk and relax. I added photos of what it looks like on a sunny day and also on a foggy day, but both give a sense of how calm the park is!”
“Lovely place to visit. It's only a smallish pier easy to walk to end and back. The pier is beautifuly looked after and well maintained, public toilets on the pier were clean and well maintained. The tide was out on our visit. picture of the support legs, all the other pictures included me so not posted”
“Saw ABBA Tribute band, it’s the second time I’ve seen them. Fantastic night as always. Definitely recommend going to see them. You can hire the hall for private functions, there is a bar and is wheelchair accessible”
“My local theatre is a wonderful place that could do with a big money injection and a renovation however it never fails to provide great entertainment. The volunteers do an amazing job inside and the events they hold are always top notch. From pantos to wrestling to shows it has it all and I recommend going there.”
“One of the most interesting and beautiful wedding venues in Wales! I love photographing weddings here because of the variety of wonderful spaces both inside and out. The incredible Brandenstoke Hall always delights guests for a wedding meal like no other and the tiered gardens that have many hidden gems to discover. There's even the opportunity for photographs down by the sea for adventurous newlyweds. I was most recently there last Summer for Bronwen and Andrew's day. Here's a few images from their day to get a feel for a typical St Donat's wedding. Look forward to returning soon!”
“Great place to come to experience a wide range of local shows and plays. Also shows a great array of tribute acts. Great for a family experience for all ages.”
“Attended on 4th April 2024 for the Emma kenny serial killer next door show. Has a great time. Staff friendly and helpful. Lovely venue although the seating is a little close together and not hugely comfortable for tall people with long legs. Refreshments are reasonably priced and cash is accepted which I'm really happy with. Would definitely recommend this venue to family and friends.”
“A really excellent venue, well suited to smaller scale music performances. We were delighted to see The Unthanks here for the first time. Great view from the upper rear, former church pews, dead centre on to the stage. Good bar with very reasonable prices. Staff were helpful and friendly (wondering if they are volunteers). This venue is a great community asset and long may it continue. Already looking at other events in future.”
“Wonderful entertainment from talented youth theatre kids in a production of Emil and the detectives. Applause also for the talented teachers who nurture the children and bring out their best. Thank you.”
“A lovely and extremely professionally presented venue considering it’s community run. There’s ample parking, a wonderful foyer and bar area and the auditorium is comfortable with all seats having a good view. The program consists of a mixture of mostly amateur with some professional performances, all of which seem to be of excellent quality.”
“Went to see Adams family absolutely brilliant well directed with a professional cast and crew”
“Before the pandemic i used to frequent the dolls house nearly every weekend. Tonight was the first night that I returned, the establishment is under new management and I can honestly say that I am more than impressed.... The warmest welcome you could ever wish for... from the management and the accommodation that we received for my disabled friend surpassed anything I've ever experienced. Reasonably priced drinks and fantastic entertainment was the order of the night. Great atmosphere and a thoroughly enjoyable night. Thank you to you and all of your staff.”
“Fantastic little local cinema l, super friendly staff, really comfortable seating with an intermission part way through and a fantastic little bar too! It also sells delicious local icecream. Recommend.”
“Great building for a venue and art gallery. Access is okay for disabled but floor a challenge in bits. The interior is as beautiful as the exterior and shows it heritage off as on old pop factory. The gallery is on the top floor with less easy access but still worth a visit to one of its nights.”
“Wow, I paid £9.00 for a super recliner. The seats were super comfy and super lush. No more touching elbows with strangers and no more having to move your feet out of the way when people want to get in and out of the aisle. The recliner is controlled by two little silver buttons on the inside of the seat to your right.. You get a little table with a cup holder for your snacks that swings forward to let you in or out and back when you are reclined.. The staff are friendly too and the toilets were clean.”
“Saw the Rapunzel Panto yesterday. Brilliant show, full of great singing, acting and dancing. Made us all laugh out loud. One of the funniest pantomimes I've ever been to! Keep up the good work guys. See you next year!”
“Went to watch Jurassic Park earlier today to find the cinema absolutely empty. However, it seemed the teenagers in the front thought they were Jurassic and proceeded to give each other head the entire movie. Absolutely stunning sight as I watched a 7 bag a 10 and going down within 5 minutes. Would recommend as the seats were nice and soft and give quite the curve for someone with a plump bum like me. Hopefully next visit the teens decide to take it a step further. Can't wait!!!”
“Brilliant venue. Hidden gem. Staff were wonderful.”
