“Lovely lovely lovely! Fantastic ambience, quiet and quaint, well-maintained. Super friendly service. Awesome tea, sandwiches, and cakes, and the smaller sized scones were perfect, given the huge spread. Highly recommend. We were a party of 9 and they took care of us really well, right from emailing back and forth about our vegetarian and kid-friendly requirements. The garden at the back was great to take a stroll after the heavy tea. The sunny weather was indeed icing on the cake.”

“The Old ship is a classic lunch time spot in Richmond. They have a lot of space both down and upstairs, with the upstairs being an unbelievable event space. We come regularly for lunch and it never fails. As a gluten free man the cider battered fish and chips went down a treat, as well as the pint in the picture below ‘Bandit’. One of nicest gluten free pints I have had in years.”

They have a tapas lunch special during the day. 3 tapas for £13.5 The Smoked chicken croquettes were good, the king prawn comes with lots of chorizo though it doesn't quite come together, and the trio of mushrooms (3 types of mushrooms cooked/boiled together) was okay though excessively salted. Still worth the money but not high end though perfect for us as a small lunch meal for 2.”

Polite, friendly and very efficient.Two tiny disappointments were a lack of festive arrangements on the tables and no winter ales on tap but in no way deflected from a lovely evening, at a very fair price. “Last nights experience at this pub was brilliant! I had the Bull & Gate burger and my husband had the fish and chips, both very reasonably priced and great flavour. Our server Will made my experience 10/10, he was very kind and attentive, always checking in on us. Lovely young man who is clearly there for their customers best interests. The wonderful Xmas decorations also got me into a very festive spirit! I would definitely recommend if you haven’t tried already!”

“My mother and myself went for afternoon tea last Saturday. Service was excellent; everyone from the Maître d' to all the wait staff were lovely and attentive. We were accommodated even though we didn't have a booking. For afternoon tea in such a beautiful location, the price was very reasonable. The only thing I miss is the unlimited champagne option they used to have. We will be back.”
