    Maru London

“With a background in kaiseki, Chef Yasu’s cooking always carries a strong sense of seasonality. This visit, set at the turn of summer to autumn, saw two styles of plating shift from vivid colours to the muted tones of fallen leaves, wheat, chestnuts and early autumn earth. The restaurant focuses on ageing, and the highlights were unmistakably the scallop and squid. Although Japanese ingredients in China are far superior to London’s in general, the flavour developed from this ice-water ageing technique was surprisingly deep and expressive. Inaniwa Udon ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Intense katsuobushi umami with a touch of sudachi’s bright sweet–sour freshness. Hand Roll ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Crisp nori, creamy minced tuna, rich and silky — packed with pure umami. Anago (Saltwater Eel) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The exterior soaks up the sweet, glossy sauce; the eel is tight-grained and delicate with a hint of sansho. Scallop ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Soft and sticky after ageing, with concentrated natural sweetness. Hirame ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Clean and refreshing, faint acidity opening into a gentle sweetness. Buri ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Light fat, elegant umami, and the distinctive aromatic heat of yuzu kosho. Zucchini Blossom Tempura ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Deep mushroom aroma; the shell is crisp with a mild natural sweetness. A5 Wagyu Tartare ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Beef fat laced with subtle truffle aroma; the tart shell is crisp and the umami full. Ika (Squid) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Finely cut and aged until soft, intensely sweet with a savoury edge. Akami ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thickly layered, meaty and full of deep, concentrated umami. Uni ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cold, silky, sweet, with shiso and nori aromatics. Amadai (Scale-On Grill) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Crisp salty scales, delicate slightly sweet flesh, and mushrooms (shiitake, maitake) sautéed into a savoury, aromatic mix. Wagyu ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A5 fillet breaded and fried, dipped in Nagoya hatcho miso — surprisingly reminiscent of Shaoxing stinky tofu in the best way. Tender and flavour-packed. Kakigōri ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Plum and lime — tart, sweet and icy refreshing. Langoustine ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Charcoal notes mixed with sansho leaf fragrance; rich tomalley and crisp-sweet meat. Aburi Ōtoro ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rendered fat aroma with a touch of Himalayan salt. Fatty Tuna Roll ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rich umami and fat in one satisfying bite. Chicken Sandwich ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Crisp bread, sweet–tart nanban sauce, firm and tender chicken. Kinako Ice Cream ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Financier shaped like a madeleine — warm, soft and sweet. Ice cream smooth and delicate, reminiscent of fresh soy milk. Fig Monaka ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Light sweetness with the gentle aroma of mochi wafers. Total bill: £269.1 Recommendation score: 9.2/10”

    Sorrento In

    ★★★★☆ 4.7

“I have eaten a lot of pizza across the whole of London over the last 10 years and Sorrento In is genuinely the best I've had. This is judged on a margherita which in my opinion allows the most important ingredients shine through and Sorrento In's does exactly that. The tomato sauce is next level along with the taste of the dough. Closest I've had to traditional Italian pizza in London - simple as that. I'll be back, obviously!”

“Khan G Kababish is hands down one of the best places for Lahori food in town! Their Lahori Nashta is absolutely amazing — from the crispy halwa puri to the rich, flavorful nihari and chana, everything tastes just like home. The parathas are perfectly cooked, the lassi is refreshing, and the overall vibe makes you feel like you’re sitting in a classic Lahore dhaba. The staff is friendly, the service is quick, and the portions are generous. Every dish is full of authentic spices and aroma — you can tell it’s made with passion and care. If you’re craving real Pakistani food, especially traditional Lahori breakfast, Khan G Kababish is the place to go. Highly recommended!”

“Really lucky to call this place my local. You simply can’t beat the service here, rain or shine they’re always happy to serve because they genuinely care. Aside from the experience, the food is great and very affordable and made or order, and the coffee is freshly made and tastes incredible, they also often have a choice of blends too, to further suit your taste preferences. It’s really hard to go anywhere else and feel this level of hospitality! I will always return, whether it’s for a hangover-cure bacon bagel, or a quick brew before work in the week.”

“What looks both from the outside and the inside like a standard greasy spoon cafe in fact serves the most fantastic food For breakfast and lunch with a very friendly owner, a dedicated team of staff and is spotlessly clean. My veggie option for £10 had two poached eggs on mashed avocado on sourdough, old style baked beans, a piece of hash brown, mushrooms, halloumi and a good size fresh salad. Unbelievably good. My friend had roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and described it as absolutely perfect With the meat being very tender.”

“Really, really lovely pizza in the evenings. Possibly the best in the Crystal Palace / Penge / Beckenham area? Don't let the front of the shop fool you, there is a lovely dining area in the back with a live grape vine covering the ceiling. With the peak summer evening heat and some Europop being played it was almost like being on the Mediterranean! Seems like they prefer people to book in advance, but they accepted our unannounced group of five, and we all seriously enjoyed our food. Definitely going back.”

“Pistachios In The Park is simply one of the most charming, friendliest cafes that clearly takes no shortcuts in serving delicious food of the highest quality. Set in formal, tree-lined garden housing a naval burial site, playground and community centre, the cafe is ideallic for those who want a peaceful ambience. Make no mistake, due to its popularity, it can get very busy but you'll be spolied for choice with space as much as you will with what's on the menu. Ran by husband and wife team, Gary and Victoria and their wonderful team, you can rest assured you'll be met with a warm welcome, fun banter, and chit chat like youre one of the locals, (Even if you're not.) I personally come for the cooked full English breakfast but there is plenty of choice on offer! Everything from sweet pastries, more savoury snacks, all of which are homemade, delicious salads and variety of hot and cold beverages to wash it down with. All the staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble. If you fancy something that might not be obviously on the menu, the team will endeavour to make it for you (within fair reason, of course) If you've not yet visited Pistachios in the Park cafe, and you want someting a little away from the regular side of Greenwich, with exemplary quality, this is your spot. You wont regret it!”

“Wow! Impressive The best made musical which I have seen. Specially that i visited 3 musical for last 7 months in Madrid, Spain. It’s our first show in London so we bought the cheapest tickets and we’re impressed - the level of preparation is incredible - costumes, stage props, lighting, music, lights, actors' voices and dancing are simply amazing! 2,5 hours just flew! Someone says that you feel that 20£ is not enough for this show and I totally agree. One more surprise - view is fine from every part of the theater- we were sitting in balcony and you may see everything perfectly. Maybe small tip is to take the middle part sits. The theater themselves is quite beautiful, so it’s perfectly suits The great Gatsby show. Highly highly recommended”

“Superb little cinema . Lovely cafe, staff & seating areas. Excellent auditorium I visited the Phoneix Cinema for the first time October 2019 for an evening preview screening. It's a charming cinema with really well thought out layout and facilities and friendly, helpful and courteous staff . I noticed that they have a permanent ramp which is ideal for accessibility into the venue. The foyer is bright and welcoming, with lots of snack and drinks I even found Judes ice creams with the mango sorbet (£3.00) working well for me. There are lost of additional seating areas benches and chairs, so if like me, you're early, you'd have plenty of places to relax in. Upstairs the cafe is larger than it seems - I had a long seated alcove area all to myself around the corner. The food and drinks are really extensive even more so than downstairs, so a Belvoir Lemonade £3.00) was in order for me, though I would return when it's less busy during the day to enjoy the offerings. The auditorium is very plush and well cared for with great sound and comfy seats The ladies toilets on the ground floor were small but clean with plenty of mirrors, nice hand wash and cream though the hand dryer was rather lame as myself and other patrons laughed at. From East Finchley station (Northern Line) take the exit on the left by the ticket machines and walk ahead, there may be a mobile coffee van open, walk pass this to the corner and look left and you'll see the red neon sign for the Phoenix on the opposite side of the street, which is less than and 3 minute walk away.”

“I've been here four times and I cannot believe that I haven't reviewed this place yet. First of, this is the only Thai restaurant I've been to four times (and I don't live close). Food is always amazing, and service is always fast, attentive, and welcoming. It's not your typical Thai restaurant, but the flavors are there. Last time we went we ordered the turmeric roti, nice, flaky and full of flavor. We also got the salted turmeric flossed tiger prawns, and I recommend two each (by default the order comes with three, but you can add one more), the crispy pork belly, and the beer battered chicken. We weren't that hungry last time, no none of the larger dishes. We've had their larger ones before, and we were always happy.”
