“The joy of the railway station pub is an almost universally appreciated joy. And while The Surbiton Flyer isn’t technically a station pub, categorised in my mind by having a departures screen somewhere inside so you can see how many more pints you can squeeze in before running for your train, it’s proximity to Surbiton station certainly brings it close. An old Barclays bank, bought and converted by Fullers 1995, it’s a cosy boozer with a clean interior. Since it’s refurb some 4 odd years ago(?), it’s brought with it that All-Bar-One aesthetic, weirdly keeping in theme with grand Bank entrances, hotel lobbies and railway station concourses. It’s just a bit posh basically, but a sort of faux-poshness, filled with people waiting. Drinks-wise, it’s Fullers and your usual Fullers pub beers. Nice to see (another, since Fullers are only down the road) local brewery here with Big Smoke Electric Eye, although on this occasion, it was a little soapy. In my previous visits here, the London Pride has always been excellent - I should’ve known better. I haven’t had the food here but it does get good reviews. While I love to get proper unsurprising pub grub, it’s hard around this particular one. Next door you have Surbiton Kebabs & Fried Chicken - who I love, not only for the chicken/wraps, but when a car reversed into their shop a few years back, they chose to rebuild it exactly as it looked before and always has. The station itself has more history than the pub. It is “considered one of the finest modernist stations in Great Britain”, is Grade II listed, built in 1937, and designed by Scottish architect James Robb Scott (also designed Waterloo and Richmond among others). It would be nice if they cleaned it once in a while, although it is set for a huge refurb so maybe they can find time to push a broom around. The station was used in Harry Potter if you’re into that too. Overall, if you’re in the area and you find yourself with some time before getting on a train, make sure you’re by the kebab shop entrance, grab a pint, and some wings for the journey. A compact Fullers pub perfect to relax in while whittling down the minutes.”

“Visited this pub for the second time in three weeks. We had the roast pork Sunday dinner again. Food was great. Excellent service. Great value. I wish that pubs in Worcestershire were as good as this one. Thank you again for the Sunday dinners.”

The spaces are a good size, I was allowed to decorate the area and the food was brought out on time and was delicious. However - last couple of times I’ve been there, one of the new guys a couple of weeks ago pressured me into tipping, but when returning today giving the benefit of the doubt another new guy completely blanked me when waiting for my change and took it without me even having a choice. I would advise finding one of the good guys and sticking with them..”

“Vibes for real. Kai you are a Capital F Legend. My hair was in tatters aside my free forms and he gave my head a good fix. I couldn't not leave a review. That was the first haircut I had in 5/6 years. Aswell as Kai other staff where putting time and effort in to everyone's experience. My friend kept pushing me to get it cut here inparticular and I definitely understand why, as well as being great business and having skilled and clearly very well trained Barbers, they made me feel pampered today. I don't normally like getting regular haircuts, this place makes me want to change that stance. Bless Kai and Smokeys”

“Sutherland has been a great nursery! Our son really enjoyed his time there, but he had to leave due to relocation. The highlight was the staff who were very kind and sweet. My son settled very well after a couple of weeks. He often wanted a morning cuddle from the staff with a smile on his face when I dropped him off in the morning. They did lots of fun activities, like making cards, costume party, celebration for national book day and sensory activities. The management team is very responsive. When I asked about the dietary plan and requested more meals with meat/fish, they acted in a few days to increase to 4 days/week with meat/fish. We also like their onsite kitchen so all the food could be prepared freshly for our son :) Their financial manager Julia is very friendly and helpful. She usually replies my email promptly with detailed answers. When my son needed to leave after giving notice, they made some adaptation for our schedule and waived some of the fee. That was very appreciated! We were a bit shocked by the 48hr quarantine policy regardless of the child's illness. That was challenging for us as two full-time working parents, but the manager said that policy will be reviewed in the future. Overall, our experience with Sutherland was great!”

“What a wonderful group Christmas meal we have just had. The food was generous and delicious. The printing of nameplates with food choice of each guest was genius. Festive decorations and crackers to pull made the atmosphere lovely and christmassy. Being able to pay with cash also helped for those without bank accounts!”

We initially booked the outside space however due to the weather being awful, they were able to move us inside last minute. Millena the manager was so helpful and was there for any assistance throughout the day, and the staff were so lovely and accommodating. Everyone had such a great day. The drinks and food from the burger shack was amazing. Would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of hiring out a space for a party!”
