“Despite being really busy they managed to seat us at a comfortable table. They advised was going to be 30 mins which we were happy at, and it was pretty much bang on 30 mins when it arrived and it was well worth the wait. The staff were very pleasant and food was spot on. First time since it had the make over but we will back again! Thank you so much.”

“What a great old school village pub this is! If you want really (and I mean this most sincerely folks) well kept, perfect cask beers then this is the place! I love real ales and was spoiled for choice with 4 cracking beers. As it was around lunch time on a Sunday I could see some lovely looking plates of food being served. My wife and I both commented that we will pop back soon and partake of the munchies, so will let you know how we got on. The locals and staff were great and enjoyed a chat and also met some nice well behaved dawgs too. The pub has camping on site apparently and what a lovely location that would be here in lovely rural surroundings. We will be back soon and pull in some pub grub as well!”

“16th October 2024, we visited the Old Black Horse, and it was the Wednesday Night Pie night. We had a really good night. The price was fantastic. You can also order off the normal menu. The pies are first-rate and as good as any I have tasted before. The staff are really nice being professional and very friendly at the same time. We have been a number of times and had the Carvary. This is one of the tastest I have tasted, and the price is resealable.”

“Absolutely amazing food, full of flavors without the greasy aftertaste. Well worth a visit. To start was the tandori panier and the fish amritsari, genuinely great taste the food was piping hot and didn't taste like it was pre-made. The main course wasn't on the menu as I had asked what the server preferred, but it's his take on the garlic chilli chicken curry, except it was made with lamb and had his unique taste of spices. It was delicious and was complimented with lemon rice. The other main was chicken biryani. And this was definitely made fresh the chicken was perfect. Overall the food was outstanding, but what let's it down unfortunately is the outside entrance doesn't do it any favors, I would highly recommend giving jhakhas a try.”

“Didn't have any food here so cannot comment on that but have nipped in a couple of times for refreshment, sadly not a lot to keep me here for long but it's a nice pub all the same, have always felt welcome, often a few familiar faces dotted around so another nice pub here for me, friendly atmosphere.”

“Stopped off with friends to break up a journey - lovely family- friendly pub with a cute cream tea room with real cream teas and little dachshunds, and a straightforward bar with a good choice of ales and cider - nice local feel.”

“Outstanding service from a super warm reception to paying the bill. Everything was flawless. Party if 4, 3 had the amazing Sunday roast and 1 had the Chicken salad. The Hawkstone cider and lager was superb, just what you need on a hot day! Highly recommended.”

“We visited here on Saturday 1st December to hear some live music. Have to say it's so good to see a "real pub" that's doing well as a pub! The crowd was lively - mixed ages which is nice to see - and the beer was good and well priced. Certainly will be visiting again when up in the area.”

“Little Elf Steak Pie - A proper comfort classic. I recently had the pleasure of enjoying a traditional steak pie from Little Elf Kitchen and Cafe on Granby Street Ilkeston, and it didn’t disappoint. The pastry was golden, crisp on the top, and beautifully flaky without being dry or overworked. The real star, though, was the filling – generous chunks of tender beef, slow-cooked until meltingly soft, in a rich but not swimming in, savoury gravy that had real depth of flavour. It struck a perfect balance between seasoning and that comforting, homely feel. I had the pie with creamy mashed potatoes, buttery peas, and a touch of gravy on the side – a classic combo that elevated the experience. This pie was packed with filling which took the pie from excellent to outstanding. All in all, a hearty, satisfying dish that delivered on both taste and tradition. I’d happily have this meal again.”

“Been for a birthday meal for 24 of us and the service and food was incredible. To account for all of us with the standard and delicious food so we were all able to eat together was top notch. The customer service and effort put in was 10/10 highly recommend the lamb shank. You have all made my birthday so special and will definitely be back. Always something on from pool and darts night to karoke, sticky 13's, bingo, quiz's, penny raffle and bounus ball. Definitely recommend weather your single, couples or a family. Dog friendly”
