“Upon collection, the kitchen area was visible and VERY clean, they had super friendly staff and a pleasant eating in area too. We chose a classic margarita, pepperoni and curly fries. The pizzas weren’t greasy which is what usually puts me off fast food pizzas. They were cooked really well and had plenty of toppings.”

“Brilliant location. Right in the centre of Buxton which is a short walk to get too. The hotel is on a hill and may be too steep for those with mobility issues. There is plenty of parking which cost £5 for 24hr. The hotel is very large but very clean. We didn't see dust, marks ect. Check in was friendly and easy. The staff are so warm and welcoming. The lobby is very large and grand and plenty of seating. The building is very old, however the decor and furniture is not. The price of a night stay with half board was excellent. Couldn't fault the hotel. The location is excellent. Just note the hotel is on hill.”

“We had a group meal here following a hike, very welcoming atmosphere. Roaring fire. Food was served on hot plates and was delicious. Staff were efficient and friendly.”

“We stopped here for a few drinks on a Friday evening. The bar staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. There is a good variety of drinks to choose from. We went for a large sauvignon blanc which came out of a very large decanter, and was delicious. I had a double spiced rum and ginger beer, and it's worth noting the shots are 35ml so 70ml for a double, which I wasn't complaining about! Prices were very fair for the drinks, I think it was around £15 for the 2 drinks. The bar had a great atmosphere for a Friday evening, well worth coming here!”

“I found this place through Google review search. We arrived and was told they could not accommodate 4 of us inside. A very helpful lady sorted us out with a nice table right in the centre of the pub. We ordered and waited for a short time . We were not prepared for the portion size, we had fish, pie and chips, sausage and mash and the half rack of ribs. The ribs I swear came of the biggest pig in the peak District. Every thing was fresh hot and tasteful. It was amazing, I would not drive past this place. It is the real deal. After a day on the peaks this is the place for amazing atmosphere great fresh local tasteful food.”

“Visited Buxton for the new year and visited The Swan new years eve. Not disappointed at all. Great locals and bar staff we're fantastic. Thatchers went down very well with myself and my son. The band we're great and very entertaining, sorry but can't remember their name. Please add if anyone knows so they get a mention as a thank you. Next time we're in Buxton we'll definitely be calling in. Thanks to the landlord and landlady for a Fantastic evening.”

“If your passing on your way to or back from town whilst staying at Premier Inn. This is a great tradition pub, with darts, pool, sports. A big welcome from landlord with friendly locals. A pub full of character & characters, not a bland plastic space. Excellent pint of Wainwright's. Thank you for your hospitality.”

“Wonderful welcome. Very large comfortable bedrooms and superb food! A fabulous place that we will return to regularly. The landlady and landlord and fabulous team make sure every guest is happy. Whether visiting for a drink, food or overnight stay you will not be disappointed. The food portions are huge but save room for the lovely homemade desserts too!!”

“The rooms around the back are cosy-sized but very comfortable. I stayed on a drizzly Wednesday night so there was no one sat outside the back of the pub and it was very quiet - can't say how quiet it would be on a Saturday night. The staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful. They had my cooked breakfast ready when I came down in the morning as they knew I needed to leave early, and they locked my bike in a secure room and had it out ready in the morning without me having to ask. Just be aware that if you come by train, it's at the top of the hill!”

“Fantastic experience here today. Not only do they allow dogs inside, they offer a bowl of water and have a doggy menu. The staff were great with our pup, saying hello but not over exciting her. The food was fab too. Will recommend and will be back.”

“It was such a lovely experience, my wife and I were visiting for the weekend and I was feeling a little under the weather so honestly wasn't feeling up for going, but didn't want to let her down. The staff, the cleanliness, the atmosphere and the locals were so welcoming and friendly. We had food which was great and well priced and the whole pub was so great with our dog Bucky. It really lifted my spirits and whenever we come back down to Buxton we'll be popping in every time, really lovely pub. The staff are a huge credit, nothing was too much, always big smiles. “I am 65 years old and driven past this place a hundred times and never knew it was a pub. If you like the Butchers Arms atReapsmoor or the Yew Tree at Caulden Low you will get it. Dont go for the beer though just the nostalga. Go before its gone.”

“There are several reasons that China House has me going back time and time again. The service is really friendly and the staff go above and beyond, calling to double check something rather than just guessing. Delivery always on time….& food….well delicious and good value portions. My one negative is that it makes you so greedy because you end up unable to choose between your favourites and you just have to get both.”

“First time we've had a meal from here. I have to say, it was lovely, very tasty and very well spiced, piping hot. We had king prawn Rogan josh and lamb bhuna both with pilau rice, both dishes had a generous portion lamb and prawns...will definitely be back again.”
