“We come to this site every year. Wonderful dog walks. Site within walking distance to Buxton. Great local pubs/restaurants. Spotless site and facilities.. what more would you want.”
“We had our wedding at Biggin Hall on 4th July, and it honestly exceeded all expectations. We chose Biggin Hall not just because of the stunning setting but because Paris and Andy actually listen to what you want from your day. For us it was a simple outdoor ceremony in their absolutely beautiful gazebo, dinner for us and 25 guests followed by drinks in the evening/outdoor games and time with our friends and family. We were fairly relaxed about the structure of the day, but even so, nothing was too much trouble - slight alterations to the wine list, organising Jonathan (the amazing pianist) to play while we ate, ensuring the tables were perfectly laid, and communicating everything to us perfectly both in the weeks and months leading up to the wedding and on the day. All the staff were phenomenal from start to finish: warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in making everything run smoothly. The food was beyond delicious – beautifully presented and praised by every guest we spoke to. Our guests were able to choose from a choice of 3 starters, mains and desserts and the food came out perfect and the portion sizes suited even the hungriest of our guests. The breakfasts are just amazing as well. Our friends and family talk about what an absolutely first class weekend it was. We feel so lucky to have celebrated our day in such a special place. Special thanks to Paris and Andy for always making us feel so welcome and at home. We couldn’t have asked for anything more.”
“Wonderful welcome. Very large comfortable bedrooms and superb food! A fabulous place that we will return to regularly. The landlady and landlord and fabulous team make sure every guest is happy. Whether visiting for a drink, food or overnight stay you will not be disappointed. The food portions are huge but save room for the lovely homemade desserts too!!”

“I recently had the pleasure of staying at the newly restored Ashleigh Buxton in Buxton, and I must say, it was a truly delightful experience. The self-catering hotel is set in a charming building in the heart of the historic town, and the attention to detail in the renovation is apparent from the moment you walk through the door. The interior décor is a wonderful blend of modern amenities and traditional charm, with elegant furnishings and stylish accents throughout. The self-catering apartments are spacious, well-equipped, and beautifully decorated, providing a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for guests. The staff at Ashleigh Buxton were friendly and accommodating, and went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was enjoyable. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm hospitality and excellent service. The location of Ashleigh Buxton is also a major selling point. Situated in the heart of Buxton, the hotel is just a short walk from the town's shops, restaurants, and attractions, making it the perfect base for exploring everything that the area has to offer. Overall, I would highly recommend Ashleigh Buxton to anyone looking for a beautifully restored self-catering hotel in Buxton. The combination of stylish accommodation, excellent service, and convenient location make it the perfect choice for a relaxing and enjoyable stay in this charming town.”
“Located about 15 minutes walk from the town centre this is a modern premier Inn with Aircon and plenty of parking (payable) as there is extra parking underneath and behind it. Friendly helpful staff, well run restaurant for breakfast and evening meal if wanted, but also lots of restaurants within walking or short drive distance. Buxton is well located for visitors to the Peak district.”
“Beaut guest house, lovely staff. Decorated beautifully throughout with modern rooms and the most comfortable bed. Lots of tea and coffee on hand in the room, as well as a selection of toiletrys being available in the bathroom. We had a room with a shared bathroom, which was not a problem what so ever, the whole place was pristine and absolutely spotless. Everything you need is just down to the road. Lovely selection of pubs, bars shops and restaurants all within walking distance. Excellent stay for the price, will defo be returning. They were so accommodating for my friends dog, such a lovely place to stay. We had the best time during our stay and so glad we visited for the night.”
“A truly wonderful stay. Staff were polite and very attentive. The spa facilities were clean and tidy. The thermal heated pools were lovely. Definitely worth a visit. Hand written birthday card and macaroon for my wife was a wonderful touch.”
“Had 2 family rooms for Lapland UK , perfect location, clean hotel, friendly staff and delicious food.”
“My daughter and I spent a wonderful day here at the Buxton Crescent spa for my birthday. It was a great experience. The staff were brilliant and made us feel very welcome. The pools and saunas were lovely and everywhere was spotlessly clean. The lunch we had was delicious. We both had the Indian head massage treatments. Very relaxing and very chilled afterwards. Would definitely do this again.”
“I absolutely loved my stay at the Buxton Hilbre B&B. The location was fantastic, and the owner was incredibly friendly and helpful, assisting me with everything I needed. Moreover, the room was immaculately clean, and the wifi was exceptionally fast.”
“We stayed here as a stopover on a long journey from Scotland to Kent and were very pleased with the service and the breakfast particularly. The hotel is currently undergoing some renovation but this did not impact our stay and it is a little dated in places but our room was spacious, clean and warm. For the price we paid for a night's stay and breakfast we felt it was very good value for money.”
“THIS REVIEW APPLIES TO THE RESTAURANT ONLY. A new Indian restaurant has restaurant has recently opened at Cottons which is in the centre of village. Beautiful food which can be modified to suit your tastes, good bar, new restaurant and friendly, knowledgeable staff. Does a take out service. Great value for money.”
“Brilliant location. Right in the centre of Buxton which is a short walk to get too. The hotel is on a hill and may be too steep for those with mobility issues. There is plenty of parking which cost £5 for 24hr. The hotel is very large but very clean. We didn't see dust, marks ect. Check in was friendly and easy. The staff are so warm and welcoming. The lobby is very large and grand and plenty of seating. The building is very old, however the decor and furniture is not. The price of a night stay with half board was excellent. Couldn't fault the hotel. The location is excellent. Just note the hotel is on hill.”
“We had a wonderful experience at Wheeldon Trees Cottages. We stayed for 2 nights at Elliott Cottage. It was a good size for 4 people - the living area, bathroom, and kitchen was spacious but the rooms were a little tight. We received a lovely welcome basket and the owners had fantastic attention to detail, leaving headtorches for night walks, maps of nearby walking trails, and an honesty shop stocked with essentials. I would highly recommend staying here if you want a quiet getaway with lovely scenery but I would be careful on the drive up as being so remote, the roads are a little tricky to navigate.”
“We stayed here on a fully serviced pitch in our own tourer. Such beautiful site in lovely surroundings, so well kept and with luxury shower, toilet and washing facilities. The little shop has a few essentials to keep you going. It also has firepits to hire so you can spend a cozy evening around the fire. The owners are so helpful, kind and friendly. Its a short walk to Hulme end where you will find a lovely country pub (The Manifold) which serves lovely food and drinks. This was our 2nd stay and we will definitely be back again.”
“It was a wild and windy night. Fabulous welcome entering the pub with 2 fires burning and excellent staff. The food offered was a good mix of traditional fare with some modern twists. Everything was homemade and tasty. Because of this, it is not a hurried experience. So enjoy.”
“Great B&B with lots of heart! Very friendly owners, and so cosy to stay here in this piece of history. Make sure you go for their Derbyshire Full English breakfast”
“We stayed in the pigsty! It is absolutely beautiful. Has everything you need. Great location. And even has a lovely pub in walking distance. Added bonus that the food is amazing!”
“Booked one of the cottages for family long weekend. Very clean, comfortable & well equipped. Only very minor petty criticism was TV was a bit small for the size of the lounge. We will probably book again.”
“The Wedding Venue of our dreams! From the minute we saw Hargate Hall we knew we had found the perfect place for our wedding. What we especially loved was the freedom given by this venue to make our wedding exactly how we wanted, no forced suppliers, caterers, bar, etc. We had the full venue for the entire weekend with around 40 guests staying with us (More can fit in the "mezzanines" which are like little loft spaces in the bedrooms). We think it was really special to have this time to spend with our loved ones rather than just a day which is gone before you know. The marquee was a great space for our dinner and the hall was a great intimate space for the ceremony and band/dancing.... We had 130 guests which made for a bit of a tight squeeze for the ceremony as we had originally planned to have this in the outdoor area, but the weather did not hold up. Nevertheless, the apartments & staircase can be used for people to stand in. We absolutely loved the staircase for our wedding entrance and for some amazing photos. Plenty of room for guests to mingle as we kept the ground floor apartments open and the upstairs area gave more space. We stocked the bar and I think we had enough for another wedding at a fraction of the cost to provide a bar at a hotel or other wedding venues we had viewed in the build up to picking Hargate. My honest summary of picking Hargate is that its not a cheap wedding venue, we spent the same amount in total as we were planning to at a hotel or barn wedding venue, but we got exactly what we wanted and 3x the bang for your buck (Maybe with a little more work as it is a DIY venue!) If you don't appreciate other venues "Flexible" packages with the 2 or 3 different options presented, consider Hargate Hall and put on a unique wedding that you & your guests will never forget. The apartments are all large with a fully equipped kitchen and I don't think we had any issue with any of the apartments. They were clean and tidy & comfortable for all our guests. Anthony, Julie & Family were incredible, super friendly and helpful. Will was so knowledgeable and helpful in the build up to the big day and Sarah & Phoebe put in a hell of a shift on the bar! Thanks to you all and we hope to return for a family get together in the future.”
“My son and I stopped here for a night for a few days walking in the Peaks. I stayed here when I was on a school walking trip and enjoyed it then as we walked from Hostel to hostel. I was certainly not disappointed with this visit either, it's such a historic building with all it's character and charm kept, well done YHA. The Hall is super with lots of rooms to chill in, great choice of food and drinks on offer. The staff were really friendly and helpful and kept us informed of the hostels amenities. The choice of food and good selection for breakfast was great. The rooms were clean and well catered for, we stopped in a private room which had its own shower and sink in the room which was good in the coach house. The hostel is well situated in a lovely quiet area and village with a choice of walks from the front door.”
“Came for a helicopter ride with Adventure 001. The location is not sign posted so we went to another farm first, but they share the same postcode. What an amazing hidden Gem. Staff at 001 were amazing, Nicole on the desk was so lovely and the flight team were brilliant. Thank you especially to Dave for putting our minds at ease before the flight as he knew we were terrified as never been off the ground before. Champagne after the flight was a lovely touch. I've seen reviews saying but no glass... you are told by the crew to ask at the cafe counter for glasses. It's not an experience I ever thought I'd have, but honestly even if you're scared of heights or flying or generally suffering from anxiety, this team will make you feel completely at ease. Many thanks to our pilot and the entire team at adventure 001 ❤️”
“Fabulous family weekend spent in the converted pub. Our second visit. Its been revamped since we last stayed. Downstairs was great, Really well stocked kitchen. Comfy lounge, great bar area. Fantastic family area. Bedrooms, lack a little luxury. No full length mirror. No hooks for towels anywhere. Bathrooms tiny and unpleasant drain smell due to saniflow I suspect. However perfectly usable and great power shower if not compact in size! Loads of cobwebs and spiders in our room so the corners and windows in room and bathroom had definitely been missed. Bed super comfy and bedlinen lovely. There was only one side table by the bed even though room for two and our TV wouldn't work. We spent limited time in the room so it didn't matter. We would 100% return again.”
“We had a fabulous stay in the Hayloft over half term with our two young children (4 and 7). The views from the front room are wonderful. The cottage is in a very quiet and rural setting but equally well located for reaching many tourist attractions and towns like Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock. There are some lovely pubs and tearooms and walks nearby. The cottage had everything we needed. We hope to return in the not too distant future, we were sad to leave!”
“We booked through Air B and B and was an amazing find. Perfect to be able to walk into town and the owners live next door and were available if we did need anything. Dogs are welcome which was lovely, just a warning to dog owners that the garden wouldn't be 100% secure for our small dogs so we just had to keep an eye on them which wasn't a problem!”
“Lovely cottage, very well equipped, clean and comfortable. There's a lovely, dog friendly pub in the village and it does fantastic food.”
“We stopped here for lunch on a whim - really glad we did so as it is a gem. Good service and atmosphere, clean and just a really nice place to stop at. The icing on the cake for me was the fact the menu had many gluten free choices, one of which was a pie. Such a rare treat to find gf pie on a menu anywhere. It was delicious. My husband had the ordinary pie and was likewise impressed. Unfortunately for us we found this Inn on our last day in the area, so we weren't able to return, but I'd willingly recommend it to others.”
“A lovely, quirky place to stay. Highly recommended”
“Beautiful cottage in the middle of nowhere (aka Earl Sterndale) My family of 12 love it. It's One of the best staycations we've ever been to (meaning in the UK)! This is our 2nd time so that speaks for itself! The photo taken is of my Twin 2 on the stair window!”
