“I didn’t expect that in addition to Birmingham and Manchester, there is a place called HULL, which has a Hong Kong-style tea restaurant where you can eat all kinds of Hong Kong tea restaurant food. I was very touched because the owner is from Hong Kong with all family members to run this restaurant. The decoration inside the store is very nice. It's really nice to take a car and visit it when you have time. Finally, where can you eat clay pot rice and egg waffles………..etc.”

“This is a great little pub that has live music and open mics night. It also has a pub quiz running once a fortnight on a Tuesday. It also has a good range of beer and run by lovely people”

“Visited as a family of 5 and had a truly amazing evening ! Lively atmosphere, well thought-out decor and incredibly friendly staff made us feel right at home . Ordered a mixture of dishes and each nicer than the other, no question on quality of care or presentation. Not to mention the waiters going above and beyond to cater to our dietary needs. The experience matched the last one we had, glad to see they’ve upheld their high standards - looking forward to bringing some friends and visiting again soon, would highly recommend!”

“I ordered three pizzas, and I’ll admit, I’m always a bit sceptical because takeaway pizzas usually show up glistening like they’ve had an oil massage. These ones proved me wrong. No grease, great flavour, and they arrived piping hot. Even the doner kebab surprised me . Everything was packaged sensibly too: sauces separate, salad separate, nothing soggy or fighting for its life in the box. Overall, a very solid experience. Consider me officially converted into a regular.”

“Not surprised they got Restaurant of the Year! Being a Greek from down south and staying up in Hull for the weekend. Wanted to see what Greek food was on offer. Wow, The Greek didn't disappoint. We had the sharing platter, halloumi fries and the Calamari. All the meats were cooked and seasoned to perfection. The staff where lovely and the restaurant well well-presented. If you're in Hull and you love good food check it out!”

The service was a little slow but I didn't mind as I was enjoying my wine and they were friendly, professional and knowledgeable. We will certainly be returning.”

“We visited the Lantern restaurant on a Saturday night a couple of weeks ago and had a fantastic meal and wonderful experience. We loved the original decor the Lantern boasts and we found out that it has been in the same family for nearly 60 years! The way in which guests are welcomed and the pride and care taken in the food served, you can really tell it's a family-run establishment. For our meal, we opted to start with the calamari and garlic mushrooms. Both of these were delicious, but we loved the mushrooms so much we had to order another portion! We then had a Porterhouse steak each, which were cooked to perfection. Alongside these we ordered the fries, onion rings and pepper sauce, which for us, were the ideal accompaniments. After these first two courses we were too full to try any of the desserts, but we imagine the options are just as tasty as everything else on the menu. Despite it being a very busy night, we couldn't fault the service we received. The servers were very attentive and ensured we were well looked after all evening - they really made us feel at home. We can't recommend the Lantern enough. Everyone should experience this hidden gem at least once. We'll certainly be back when we're next in the area!”

“I have been a customer for almost 15 years now and a favourite place of mine for a hot sandwich and a latte. Food is a tad on the expensive side, but the quality is great so can't grumble. I've always liked the décor of the shop and the staff are always friendly and up for a chat and a bit of banter. Highly recommend.”

“We had booked in advance for our lunch. Had requested a table with natural light and that was delivered. Perfect. The greeting we received was warm and welcoming. Our table was upstairs. I'm OK with that if I take my time but if you can't do stairs then make sure you ask for a downstairs table. The toilets were on the first floor. Not sure if there were any on the first floor. The food was excellent as was the wine. Thoroughly enjoyed everything we chose. The only slight niggle was it really needed another couple of veggie choices. Did bring this up and was advised that had we told them at the time of booking they would have made more choices available. So if you have any special requests get them in when you book. Well worth a visit!”

“Lovely pub with a delightful decor. Absolutely incredible choice of beer and snacks. You can roll a dice and get a surprise choice of drink - I got buckfast - very sweet and quite strong. Loved the little chippies and overall vibe.”

“Food was delicious, chilli con carne had a bit of heat and very filling. Only slight downside was a very rowdy group on a pub crawl, but one of the bar staff apologised and said they would not be staying long. Otherwise, a very cosy pub, great food and atmosphere”
