“This restaurant is an excellent choice. It has a very intriguing character and decoration. The food is refined, beautifully presented and very tasty. Staff is very welcoming and attentive. They also accommodated our last minute request to change one of the menus to vegetarian option. You enter from the street through a door and need to walk upstairs where you are greeted by the staff in a bar/lounge area. You will be seated and offered a drink. At this point you don’t see the dining area, so you can’t be sure what to expect. The dining room is spacious with a view of the open kitchen. We have been seated at a large table with sofas instead of chairs, which were very comfortable. Table is nicely decorated with candles and live flowers. The tasting menu consists ten courses and costs £75 per person which is reasonable. The whole menu was served over four hours, so book the table early in the evening if you want to catch a train back home. The menu is changed at the beginning of every month. The only little criticism we have is that there aren’t any fresh juices available and the wines starts from £34 per bottle (they could have some more reasonably priced options). Overall, the restaurant presents very high standard and I guess they will get the Michelin star soon, so book now before the prices go up ;)”

Food was very traditional and tasted great with the right balance of spice,herbs and flavours Pricing wise it was a little expensive but worth it as the food was fantastic and good portion sizes.”

“We ordered from here last night and were really impressed. Walked in at 6.45 and was told the order would be ready 7.15. After a pint at the pub up the road, our order was ready on time. Both pizzas had loads of very tasty toppings & the garlic bread pizza was to die for. Truffle fries were amazing too, and still really hot after a 10 minute walk back to our motorhome on the riverside campsite. Would eat here all the time if we lived locally. Highly recommend!”

“I was so close to giving up on finding good pizza in Wakefield. When the top-rated options are Pizza Joy, a takeaway using frozen bases, and Papa John’s, a mainstream chain, it’s hard not to lose hope. I had. But I gave it one last try—enter Basebox. This is the best pizza in Wakefield, and honestly one of the best I’ve had anywhere in the UK. I’m not sure what “style” it is, but I’ve only found something similar once before, all the way up in Durham. If the quality stays consistent, this will be my go-to pizza spot from now on. My only minor criticism is that the dip pots are a little too small—one barely covers a slice—but at 75p a pot, I can let that slide. Congratulations, Basebox, on beating the odds.”

“I've been getting my weekly fix from Lion's Kitchen for over 10 years, to the point where I'm known as "Friday Stewart" The food is always great, and a consistent reminder of family meal times in Jamaica and my mum's cooking. It's a takeaway, so don't expect plush restaurant settings, however, whenever you drop in, the ladies are are always friendly, and as quick as possible... SIdenote: On the rare occasion ×hen it does take take little longer than usual, just remembered, caribbean food is never meant to be served in a rush, it ruins the taste. Special shout out to Daniela who ensures everything is kept running smoothly. If you're looking for the absolute best , and most importantly, authentic Caribbean food, cooked by Jamaicans (there is a massive difference when it's prepared otherwise) then I highly recommend Lion's Kitchen. There's a reason why he's been in business for over 30 years which you'll taste when you sample his food.”

Got a breakfast today and for £5.20 would've expected spam and black pudding to have been included, but it was only 80p for both to be added on so only a minor complaint! Best sandwiches for miles around!”

“An unexpected stop for breakfast this morning turned out to be a lovely little find! The décor inside is really nice, and the staff gave us such a warm welcome. We sat upstairs and ordered a full English breakfast and a full vegetarian breakfast — both were freshly cooked and delicious. Service was quick and friendly, and we didn’t have to wait long at all. “Whenever I go up to Leeds, I try to visit this Fish and Chips shop since the fish and the batter is really good. It is up there with Murt and the other one in Wakefield. Beef dripping frying in these northern chippies really makes a difference compare to the ones down south.”

“Had an amazing meal at Pizza Freak The freakin' carbonara pizza was everything I hoped for and more. The creamy white sauce, smoky pancetta, and perfectly cooked egg brought so much authentic flavour to a pizza, and the quality of the ingredients really shone through. We also started with the tomato basil arancini, and they were outstanding. Crispy on the outside, with a beautifully soft and gooey centre. Everything was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was great and the service was super friendly. This place is a must-visit.”
