“Most delicious food and service with a smile. I was on my own and got seated straight away on a Saturday evening. The lime and lychee mocktail is delicious and the steak main was just perfect. Dessert was amazing. The restaurant packed out soon after me so I got there just at the right time. Will be visiting again. Great halal food.”

    Vivat Bacchus

    ★★★★☆ 4.6

“Stepping into Vivat Bacchus in London (Farringdon) is like being instantly transported to the heart of South Africa. This isn't just a meal; it's an immersive experience in the rich, vibrant culture of the Braai, celebrated with expertly grilled meats, comforting bread and other South African side dishes, and an exceptional selection of South African wine and beer (and cocktails). The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and convivial, perfectly capturing the spirit of South African hospitality—a place where you feel encouraged to linger and share. The staff are knowledgeable, particularly about the wine pairings, and their enthusiasm adds to the overall joyous dining experience. Our waiter, Halil, was a highlight of the evening. His enthusiasm was infectious, his recommendations were spot-on, and he ensured our table was perfectly looked after with genuine care and efficiency. His excellent service truly added to the overall joyous dining experience. Vivat Bacchus is a must-visit for any food lover in London.”

“This 50 year old business is surely an institution at this point. The owner tells me that one of the beautifully cared for plants in the window is 30 years old, saying that is was “older than you!”. After Christmas he says it will be time to close as he will retire. The food was delicious. What a loss to the community. This is exactly what makes London, London.”

    Tokyo Diner

    ★★★★☆ 4.6

“We were out fairly late around the Leicester Square–Chinatown area. We were looking for a suitable restaurant, but many were already closed, kirchen closed or looked empty. Luckily, we ended up at Tokyo Diner. Even though we didn’t share much of a common language, we quickly got a table upstairs and bottles of Sapporo beer to quench our thirst. My Chicken Katsu Curry was tasty, and my companion’s Udon noodle dish was excellent. The restaurant has a slightly worn feel, but it was clean. This is a place that serves good Japanese food at a reasonable price.”

“Wow - we had the most gorgeous evening at Dulwich Lyceum - a must try if you’re ever in South London or London for that matter!!! We went for the tasting menu and it was worth every penny. From Jersey Blue Oysters, Cod Crouettes, grilled tiger prawns, pumpkin risotto and homemade ravioli it was truly hard to pick a favourite. The service was attentive and informative, and the atmosphere was also fab. There are plenty of interesting and gorgeous wines to choose from - we went with the Nykteri, which paired beautifully with the food. A stand out evening and we will definitely be coming back x”

“Dining on my own at a counter seat, which over looked the steaks being cooked on the grill. A cocktail and a couple of glasses of very nice wine. An unexpected appetiser of bread and melting bone marrow fat was lovely. I then went for the steak tartare, a t-bone with chips and honey carrots. All were delicious and the steak was cooked perfectly. I have been to most of the top steak restaurants in London and this is right up there too The waiter was attentive without being a pain and the other few staff I spoke to were very cheerful. Thoroughly recommend this place, even if it’s a bit pricey”

It’s definitely on the pricier side, but I used The Fork for a 50% discount which made it totally worth it. The place has such good vibes, and it’s nice to find somewhere open that late when most places in London are shut. Lovely view and overall a really great experience and would definitely go back!”
