“Wonderful, Warm, Friendly & Professional Service. Food Was Absolutely Delicious And All In Totally Relaxing Surroundings. Can Highly Recommend”
“Easy booking online and reminders etc Food was lovely you could tell it was authentic Thai and a nice atmosphere Myself and my wife enjoyedthe whole experience and I was impressed by the lady whom was running the whole show and not out to impress as the food does that for itself It was a Thursday evening so not as busy I'm sure of like a Friday or Saturday where she might need a hand ☺”
“Cute place. As an American living abroad, I always love to see how the world thinks we eat. The food was not bad, my chicken was a bit tough/dry. The side salad was a bit heavy handed on the bacon. But overall, easy to get into and pleasant staff.”
“Was looking for a good Sunday lunch in Belfast and saw a review for McHughs and thought we would try it. We didn’t have a booking and they managed to fit us in. The Sunday beef roast was fantastic alongside the Guinness. Highly recommended and will visit again when back in the city”
“For all my jokes and upon reflection, this place was very good! The steak was very tender, mash and cabbage were buttery and indulgent and chips (for their size) were nice and crispy! I understand that part of the appeal of this place is that you finish your steak how you like on the hot stone. But for me, paying £70 for the chateaubriand, I would’ve liked the option for the chef to have cooked it for us. I would’ve like a bit of butter or oil, to assist with the cooking but other than that, jt was perfectly fine. It does get very hot, very smoky and you do leave smelling of steak”
“First time I’d been here and not disappointed. It was a group dinner, 50 or so of us, and everything was delivered swiftly, all the mains were hot, all the puddings hot or cold as they should be, and everything looking as fresh as though it was the only meal they’d prepared. It was all delicious and very well cooked and presented. The atmosphere was beautifully calm for such a large area and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Although we were in a big group I felt as personally cared for and valued by the staff as though I was the only person there, and others in the group agree. Highly recommended, and a big thank you to all the lovely staff.”
“Had lunch here on 02/09/2025. Marvellous variety on the starters/lightbites menu - loads of unusual dishes, so we were spoiled for choice. Chose beef nachos and the crab claws in an Asian sauce with a cheese and onion bap. Everything was delicious, well presented and great portions. The sauce with the crab was so tasty, I used my teaspoon to eat it like a soup. Excellent altogether.”
“Lovely place seen on social media and rarely they live up to a description. But it did, very friendly staff, we arrived just before lunch but they allowed us to order early from that menu. Food was excellent and I doubt you’d go home hungry from it. Well priced too. Well done”
“Good food. Value for money. Nice looking Cafe. Friendly staff.”
“Delicious, recently opened and had the buffet box was so tasty and excellent workers! Will be coming again soon.”
“A little hidden gem, food was excellent deli food, not to mention the service. Super value for money. Will definitely be back again. The homemade porridge was yummy, according to my Polish partner. Don't leave without a slice of cake you'll thank me later. Delicious”
“A real hidden gem, just 10 mins on the train out of Belfast. The service was brilliant, really knowledgeable without being intimidating or pushy, and instead helped us order without overdoing it. The wine selection by the glass was great, and good value too, again, great recommendations. The food is the real star of the show, we went for the lightly grilled oysters, the jambons (which really feel like one of those dishes you’ll be craving every few days after), the moreish artichokes, steak tartare Caesar salad which was great fun, skate wing and their signature crispy potatoes. The food comes out when it’s ready in a really clever order, no rushing. The Veda treacle tart was a standout for dessert, and ask for a ‘Belfast coffee’ - like an espresso martini but nicer. By no means cheap, but quality of ingredients and the vibes were brilliant. We’ll be back again!”
“Dog friendly restaurant with a fantastic menu and fry. Back again and this restaurant is to good to miss, still totally amazing”
“Had a lovely family evening dinner . Their cod dish is absolutely delicious. Nice service. Very pleasant”
“Had our staff Xmas do here this afternoon. Nothing was a bother to the person looking after us. He was a lovely genuine guy. Food was lovely and we had a lovely time. Didn’t realise till after they weren’t open till 5 so accommodated our lunch time request no questions asked. Highly recommend and love they are local east Belfast company which we love to support”
“Best experience as the staffs are all lovely although we were the last table remaining”
“Love this traditional Irish bar. Best in Belfast. The Guinness is fantastic, believe me, you'll not get better in the city, and I have tried most of them. Bar is small and gets very busy at times, but this all adds to the atmosphere.”
“The Sunflower Public House is a distinctive and much-loved pub located on Union Street, just behind Belfast Central Library and near the University of Ulster. It's known for its authentic character and a slightly alternative vibe, standing out from more commercial establishments. One of its most recognizable features is the security cage on its front door, a relic from 1980s Belfast that has been intentionally preserved as part of the city's social history, now serving as a unique talking point and a symbol of resilience. Music is central to the Sunflower's identity. It regularly hosts traditional, Appalachian, and Gypsy Swing sessions, as well as folk and bluegrass. The pub prides itself on offering a wide selection of craft beers, including local Northern Irish brews. The Sunflower is widely known as a very dog-friendly pub, welcoming well-behaved dogs both inside and in its beer garden, often providing water bowls and treats. This has made it a favorite among dog owners. The Sunflower Public House is considered a "back to basics" pub, free of gimmicks, and celebrated for its genuine character, excellent music scene, good beer selection, and welcoming atmosphere, making it a highly recommended spot for those seeking an authentic Belfast pub experience.”
“Best bar in Bangor. Guinness best in the country. One of the only places left where it's not chilled to the point of no flavour. Also a proper pub; no food, sports on quietly in the corner, mix of interesting characters.”
“Went with family and friends. Great choice of beers. Some areas reserved for several groups from time to time but plenty of room. Pizza offerings first class and tasty. Great spot.... Now has a sitting area out the front and to the side. On a good day packed due to both areas getting plenty of sun mid afternoon onwards.”
“Found this absolute gem while on a walk through Dundalk, it's extremely cosy, has a lovely covered outdoor seating area, and the selection of different draughts is great. Extremely friendly staff, would highly recommend.”
“Fabulous atmosphere, friendly and homely feeling”
“Amazing pub food, great people. Perfect for a Sunday morning.”
“As a regular visitor to this fabulous little gem, I cannot find fault in anyway. Menu - lots of tasty choices, good price Staff - attentive, friendly, professional Location - quirky, well decorated, vibrant One of the very few places in the city that’s properly dog friendly as opposed to “dog tolerant” If you haven’t tried here yet then I’d suggest getting some and giving it a go, but if you turn up at a busy time you may have a short wait ahead - but this is a good thing, would you rather go to a place with nobody in it - the place speaks for itself. Highly recommended”
“Been coming here weekly since it opened, consistently the best authentic Italian food and service in Ireland. Always high quality ingredients & the pizzas on a Sunday are proper Neapolitan style. Francesco, Gee & the team are so warm and welcoming. And our pup Skye is always treated like a VIP ❤️”
“Some of the best food I’ve ever had, truly. I got the salmon/smoked haddock special, my fiancé got the lamb burger, and we split a seafood chowder to start. The seafood chowder had ENORMOUS chunks of fresh, delicious salmon. The wine list is pretty good for Ireland and features Romanian wine in particular. Loved every bite!”
“Traditional pub with delicious food, cosy atmosphere with open fires going in winter time”
“Went for Sunday dinner with my father, the menu covered all bases, had the set 3 course menu, and was reasonably priced. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. Enjoyed immensely, will bring him again as he found it easy to manoeuvre his wheel chair and found the atmosphere relaxed.”
“Must admit I was pleasantly surprised by the the reception and treatment I received from the waitresses at this establishment, especially Jenna who was extremely helpful in helping us decide what selection to make. We settled for the club sandwich each. In truth one would have been sufficient. There was alot of filling and there was no way you could describe it as bland. Well recommended”
“Brilliant Sunday lunch at a fair price in good surroundings. Only small issue is possible more training for the staff. They could be a bit more helpful, I asked about the menu unable to answer. Asked for the bill and I ended up have to go and get it myself . But other than the staff a great meal and I would return in the future hopeful staff will have a little bit more training.”
