“A quaint, family run cobblers nestled just outside Bedford town centre. The staff are friendly, polite and ever so helpful. Thier wares are of the highest calibre, providing classic, timeless shoes, shoe care and good quality repairs with a level of service that is hard to find these days. They are, without reservation, the best store of thier kind for miles around. I have been a patron for many years, as has my father, and I will continue to be for many years to come!”

“This is a middle sized shoe shop, and there is a parking place nearby, almost 5 minutes away. They have shoes and bags for women, men and kids with decent quality. The prices are reasonable and can vary from £18 to £80. The staff were very friendly and helpful.”

“This is such a great shoe shop for children of all ages. The fitting service is better than any other shop I know, and this is based on my experience with my son and now my granddaughter 34 years on! They take time to check how the child walks without shoes first then find a perfect fitting shoe. I would be happy to travel to this shop if we lived a distance away, although we have now moved nearer and pass it every day! There is plenty of parking outside. I would highly recommend this shop. Ladies, you are doing a fantastic job.”

The shoes are stunning comfortable and a real conversation starter, I can’t begin to tell you the number of compliments I have received over the years when wearing them. The stores look like nothing else and always feels so decadent to enter one, like a naughty treat. The staff make you feel like your the first person to ever buy a pair of shoes, they make you feel so special. I recently bought a pair during lockdown and the effort that Sam went to was incredible . “Super helpful, ordered some Paraboots today and needed them in a rush, called the shop and he confirmed the stock and size, heard my concerns and posted them within the hour. Really friendly, not sure why anyone would give this hardworking small business less than 5*. Will be ordering from here again. Website says that returns are accepted for refund, so ignore those remarks in the reviews.”

“Me and my partner purchased 1 pair of shoes and 1 pair of boots recently, both pairs were seconds. We were shown why the shoes were seconds and there were no pushy sales tactics, which is rare nowadays! We were allowed to shop in our own time, but there was someone there to help if needed. We visited the shop on a Saturday afternoon. The tall, young Asian gentleman (I am so sorry that I forgot his name) was very helpful and polite. He really knew his stuff when it came to sizes and styles etc. We were so grateful of his help. We both usually struggle to find shoes that fit due to having wide feet- no issues at all with Cheaneys! The shop has recently been refurbished and looks good. The photos on the wall of the staff who actually make the shoes was a very nice touch. I think we forget just how skilled they must be.”

“Went into store 27/8/25 with our granddaughter who had broken her ankle 12 months earlier, since then she had not worn proper shoes due to her anxiety about her ankle. We had been to many shoe shops throughout Banbury and MK with no success in getting Isla in a pair of shoes. We went in Charles Clinkards and straight away were greeted with shop staff that so clearly wanted to help with the problem we had. Isla was seen by Madelaine no 6553, she talked and explained things to Isla who is only 9 years old. She came out with loads of different pairs of shoe/boots explaining how certain pairs would help support her ankle. Madelaine was so caring and supportive not worrying how much of her time we were taking up. Eventually she got Isla into a pair of boots, she was so excited she wore them straight away. You must be so pleased to have such a caring and helpful assistant working for you. Madelaine certainly gets 10 out of 10 from us, and we will make sure Clinkards is our first port of call next time Isla needs new shoes. “What an amazing shop. The service is outstanding. I came here today with my daughter and my nan, it's a tradition my nan always buys the kids first pair of shoes here. My daughter was on the move and that was no problem with thr ladies, they sized her feet bought her out 5 different pairs to try she loved it she waved me off walked around the store checking they fit and she was so comfortable.
