“We had a fabulous stay in the Hayloft over half term with our two young children (4 and 7). The views from the front room are wonderful. The cottage is in a very quiet and rural setting but equally well located for reaching many tourist attractions and towns like Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock. There are some lovely pubs and tearooms and walks nearby. The cottage had everything we needed. We hope to return in the not too distant future, we were sad to leave!”
“Fabulous stay. Scrummy breakfast. Choice of whatever combination of cooked bits you wanted. Lovely toast. Homemade quince jam! Breakfast trifle (healthy!) yumyumyum! Felt so looked after. David was so thoughtful & caring & hospitable. Pot of tea on arrival (with biccies!) & fresh coffee brought to your door before breakfast. Definitely recommend if you want that real homely experience. Hartington is a best village, so B&B is great location for walks. But what makes it special is how you are looked after! (Rooms are lovely, comfy, clean & quirky!) Thanks David. You made our stay so special & memorable. Tina & Paul”
“Beautiful setting, cosy cottage with scenic views. We've had a much needed 5 night break. Loved it.”
“Very nice place to stay. There isn't a play park near the cottage and the garden is very small, if you are visiting to be out the majority of the day then I would highly recommend.”
“We booked through Air B and B and was an amazing find. Perfect to be able to walk into town and the owners live next door and were available if we did need anything. Dogs are welcome which was lovely, just a warning to dog owners that the garden wouldn't be 100% secure for our small dogs so we just had to keep an eye on them which wasn't a problem!”
“Great place for our holiday break and birthday celebrations. Super accommodation and views from the living room windows.”
“When my mechanic/friend retired I was completely flawed – having someone totally trustworthy to attend to any of my car issues is so important as I am not able at 80 to do things myself. So when someone suggested trying Arthur Forbes’ Garage on Brown Edge Road, Buxton, at first I was slightly diffident; since getting any worthwhile working relationship in place again takes time. Now having had both Matt & Ian doing various services and MOTs etc for me I feel I can have complete faith in them. Not only are they good at their jobs, they are always so accommodating about getting me booked in & sometimes picked up when necessary – even Boss man Arthur ran me back home one time. The ethos of the business is not to fleece customers by constantly increasing prices, so it’s refreshing to know that they aren’t unreasonably greedy like many other garages. Well done, Arthur et al, & a big thank you for keeping me on the road safely.”
“Outstanding. Everything spot on. Except the weather!”
“Lovely cottage, very well equipped, clean and comfortable. There's a lovely, dog friendly pub in the village and it does fantastic food.”
“Had a lovely stay in the cottage. Very nice n cozy over new year. Would recomend the cottages for a good break. The surounding area is stunning.”
“We stopped here for lunch on a whim - really glad we did so as it is a gem. Good service and atmosphere, clean and just a really nice place to stop at. The icing on the cake for me was the fact the menu had many gluten free choices, one of which was a pie. Such a rare treat to find gf pie on a menu anywhere. It was delicious. My husband had the ordinary pie and was likewise impressed. Unfortunately for us we found this Inn on our last day in the area, so we weren't able to return, but I'd willingly recommend it to others.”
“Lovely place for a lunch and cuppa. The Derbyshire oatcakes are scrumptious! Thank you to all the staff for making our time here such a pleasant one.”
“What a gem! I don't know if I got lucky with room 10 or just due to booking early, but all I can say is wow! Very spacious, double aspect twin room. The views of the lake were breath taking and perfecr for people watching. Large bathroom with bath and shower which was a lovely suprise, all looked to have been freshly decorated. The breakfaat was delicious, with a large choice of fresh fruit, cereals, pastries and full english on offer. Staff were very pleasant, private carpark was very handy aa parking would have been difficult in Buxton itself. Hotel location waa ideal, lovely walk through the park to the shops, cafes, resturants and opera house. Or walking the opposite direction to pooles cavern and national park for a day out walking. Great value for money and will definitley be returning”
“Really pleased with my choice, stayed for 2 nights on a romantic weekend! It's well located about 5 min car journey into Buxton. Owner was helpful, kind and knowledgable about places to eat etc. The room was nice and spacious. The breakfast was very good and we needed earlier at 8am and that was not a problem, actually was owner's suggestion because we had a hiking at 9am. Considering the area, WiFi was very quick! They have a little farm with animals unfortunately we had no time for visiting but you can see them from the car park! We really do recommend!”
“A lovely, quirky place to stay. Highly recommended”
“First time there in our newly converted VW camper and it was absolutely lovely, no noise apart from the birds singing. Loads of space and greenery just lovely being at one with nature and owner was really welcoming, definitely will be visiting again.”
“Had 2 family rooms for Lapland UK , perfect location, clean hotel, friendly staff and delicious food.”
“My daughter and I spent a wonderful day here at the Buxton Crescent spa for my birthday. It was a great experience. The staff were brilliant and made us feel very welcome. The pools and saunas were lovely and everywhere was spotlessly clean. The lunch we had was delicious. We both had the Indian head massage treatments. Very relaxing and very chilled afterwards. Would definitely do this again.”
“Beautiful cottage in the middle of nowhere (aka Earl Sterndale) My family of 12 love it. It's One of the best staycations we've ever been to (meaning in the UK)! This is our 2nd time so that speaks for itself! The photo taken is of my Twin 2 on the stair window!”
“Great stay Alison made us feel extremely welcome ,bedroom and facilities top notch and breakfast was of a very high standard. The stay was memorable most of all because of the warmth shown by Alison to us and we will absolutely stay again.”
“Great little holiday cottage in an excellent location .... see smithyscottage.co.uk”
“Basic but everything you'd expect and a few things more. Owner is effecient and location is great.”
“Absolutely fantastic Weather was really cold but the cottage was warm and cozy Very clean and the owners are very nice people Will be using again for our summer trip”
“A lovely comfortable characterful cottage in a great location.”
“We stayed here as a stopover on a long journey from Scotland to Kent and were very pleased with the service and the breakfast particularly. The hotel is currently undergoing some renovation but this did not impact our stay and it is a little dated in places but our room was spacious, clean and warm. For the price we paid for a night's stay and breakfast we felt it was very good value for money.”
“THIS REVIEW APPLIES TO THE RESTAURANT ONLY. A new Indian restaurant has restaurant has recently opened at Cottons which is in the centre of village. Beautiful food which can be modified to suit your tastes, good bar, new restaurant and friendly, knowledgeable staff. Does a take out service. Great value for money.”
