Beers in Surbiton

“Charming restaurant less than 5 mins from Surbiton Rail station and opposite Sainsbury’s. The old Post Office building has been repurposed as a restaurant, fitted out in a sustainable way with genuine Turkish designs and materials. My server had a Masters in restaurant design so was knowledgeable and happy to point out some of the features. The coffee was excellent and the Nutella and sea-salt cookie was something I’d never tasted before and had a light and delicate texture. Good access for wheelchairs and my go to coffee stop in Surbiton when on foot or a motorcycle or bicycle with parking right outside the door.”

“The joy of the railway station pub is an almost universally appreciated joy. And while The Surbiton Flyer isn’t technically a station pub, categorised in my mind by having a departures screen somewhere inside so you can see how many more pints you can squeeze in before running for your train, it’s proximity to Surbiton station certainly brings it close. An old Barclays bank, bought and converted by Fullers 1995, it’s a cosy boozer with a clean interior. Since it’s refurb some 4 odd years ago(?), it’s brought with it that All-Bar-One aesthetic, weirdly keeping in theme with grand Bank entrances, hotel lobbies and railway station concourses. It’s just a bit posh basically, but a sort of faux-poshness, filled with people waiting. Drinks-wise, it’s Fullers and your usual Fullers pub beers. Nice to see (another, since Fullers are only down the road) local brewery here with Big Smoke Electric Eye, although on this occasion, it was a little soapy. In my previous visits here, the London Pride has always been excellent - I should’ve known better. I haven’t had the food here but it does get good reviews. While I love to get proper unsurprising pub grub, it’s hard around this particular one. Next door you have Surbiton Kebabs & Fried Chicken - who I love, not only for the chicken/wraps, but when a car reversed into their shop a few years back, they chose to rebuild it exactly as it looked before and always has. The station itself has more history than the pub. It is “considered one of the finest modernist stations in Great Britain”, is Grade II listed, built in 1937, and designed by Scottish architect James Robb Scott (also designed Waterloo and Richmond among others). It would be nice if they cleaned it once in a while, although it is set for a huge refurb so maybe they can find time to push a broom around. The station was used in Harry Potter if you’re into that too. Overall, if you’re in the area and you find yourself with some time before getting on a train, make sure you’re by the kebab shop entrance, grab a pint, and some wings for the journey. A compact Fullers pub perfect to relax in while whittling down the minutes.”

“We had a lovely time here at Harts. Food and drinks were great. Good portion sizes, the food was hot and the staff were very attentive. The only criticism would be that the spotlights are incredibly bright and harsh but that of course is no fault of the staff! Just maybe something that could be looked at,”

“I had tried to drop off of 3 parcels for UPS pickup at a place in Addlestone but i didn't trust the assistant as i didn't receive an email or sms receipt. I took my parcels back from them and called around and found JK Beers and wines. I spoke to Santosh who understood my situation and was able to checkin my parcels remotely to show me that sms or email receipts should be received which they were. I didn't mind driving 13 miles to JK Beers and wines the next morning to drop my parcels off because of the great service Santosh afforded me. He was proactive, honest and helpful - taking time to explain how the ups process is supposed to work. Santosh is great. PLEASE USE JK BEERS AND WINE FOR YOUR PARCEL DROP OFF, THEYRE FAB! “A pub I've been meaning to write up for a while but haven't been too sure on when to dive into it. It's a local community pub, one of the very few independent ones in the area, but one I barely frequent, and I've not really got a good reason as to why. The first trip I went here, it was a cold covidy afternoon, and I was relegated to the sea of sofas in the garden. Collected together, like the aftermath of a flood having ripped through the front rooms of an entire village, a mish mash of the comfiest seats a pub garden has ever seen. To get there you'd need to hop on through the pub, greeted by locals playing board games with a nod, a lone bloke chewing the ear off the bar staff about the complexities of the Marvel universe pausing only to let you order, or a live band in the corner on Thursday & Sundays. A beer fridge is well stocked, keg beers are your accessible macro gear, but most come for the ale. Expertly kept rotating cask selection; you'll typically find Oakham, Surrey Hills or a couple of obscurer local breweries. Invariably served with a sparkler. The pub itself dates back to the late 1800s, and even used to have a small brewery on site, but it's only since Liz and Adam took it over that it's become this beacon of light amongst a sea of Young's pubs. It won multiple CAMRA awards in the mid 2010s, and continues to champion quality ale. Food wise they've chopped and changed. BBQ burger nights, slow pulled meats and veggie options, cheese nights too, and on the weekend I went they had "Emma" (forgot the IG tag), churning out Middle Eastern dishes, orders coming in early doors on a Sunday. Bar snacks knocking about, but few pubs in the area offer their location up to pop-ups, so it's nice to see the variety. It's a cosy place, you'll not find another one like it really, and to get 2 (good) pints south of a tenner in these parts is worthy of praise alone. Having done almost double digit visits now, I've never had the same experience twice in terms of locals, beers, Rona rules and food, yet the vibe remains the same. Welcoming, hospitable and inviting - a pub fully deserving of all the praise the locals have bestowed upon it.”

“If you are in the area you have to visit "The Antelope". The selection of drinks is just great. If you don't know what to drink or if you don't know a beer or cider, you may taste as long as you need to find your perfect drink. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is great. Music is presented by a vinyl-record-player! We didn't have any food, but the kitchen was busy and everbody who had food looked very happy. Place to be!”

“The best pizza in its class & for price. You can trust my review, I am a chef from next door & I am a very fussy eater. I eat here quite often simply because they make really tasty Amercian style pizza. Nice clean dough, which they make in house. Very friendly staff & owners. Much better than your usual clap trap Dominoes, Pappa John or Pizza Hut. Support local, support independent, support these guys.”

“What a wonderful group Christmas meal we have just had. The food was generous and delicious. The printing of nameplates with food choice of each guest was genius. Festive decorations and crackers to pull made the atmosphere lovely and christmassy. Being able to pay with cash also helped for those without bank accounts!”

“I ordered a bottle of dream chaser on Alcohol Ninja's web site not realising it was in London. A gentleman rang me and said he would try to get a courier for me instead of refunding my money. A lot of couriers he said did not transport alcohol. They found a courier and sent it to me. This was a present for my Daughter for Xmas. I received the bottle and I cannot thank them enough for going over and above for me. Great experience.”

We initially booked the outside space however due to the weather being awful, they were able to move us inside last minute. “A good Wetherspoons pub which is a great local in Surbiton, they have left many good architectural attributes of the original building and should be commended. Good selection of beers, spirits, wines and soft drinks. Plenty of seating but does get busy. Food selection isa good quality selection at reasonable prices. Staff always attentive and friendly. Road parking outside BUT plenty of public transport available.”

“We had a 60th birthday here and can honestly say it was amazing! David the owner was fantastic and really attentive. The price was really good & the DJ is included in the price! They provide a a balloon arch, lighting, decorations and you can bring your own food which definitely saves some money! Would absolutely recommend this venue for an event. We set up the morning of and they cleared the decorations for us the next day. We also had the outside terrace just for our party which was a great bonus!”

“Just had an excellent meal from Tasty Bite on Surbiton Road. The food was fresh, flavorful, and delivered quickly. I've tried their peri-peri grilled chicken with coloured rice , and they've both been fantastic. The staff is always friendly and generous especially (Hamidi), and it's a great spot for a delicious takeaway. They are open until 1:00 am. Highly recommend!"”
