    The Grove Balham

    ★★★★☆ 4.4

“Tucked away in a charming corner of London, The Grove Pub is the kind of place you hope to stumble upon—and once you do, it quickly becomes a favorite. Stepping inside feels like a step back in time, thanks to its beautifully preserved Victorian atmosphere. The rich hardwood interiors, cozy nooks, and period details create a warm, inviting space that’s perfect for everything from a casual pint to a hearty Sunday roast. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating a relaxed, neighborhood vibe from the moment you walk in. They’re attentive without being overbearing, and genuinely seem to enjoy chatting with guests—whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth. The food and drinks are top-notch, offering pub classics and even vegetarian options. Whether you’re after a perfectly pulled pint, a seasonal cocktail, or a comforting plate of fish and chips, The Grove delivers. One of the best surprises? It’s dog-friendly—and not just in name. They go above and beyond for their four-legged visitors, with dog treats at the ready. If you’re looking for a pub with charm, character, great service, and even better company (both human and canine), The Grove is an absolute must-visit.”

“Having heard so much about the wonderful Sunday lunches at the Rose Inn, we decided to try for ourselves and we were certainly not disappointed! The quality was outstanding but be sure that you are very hungry as the portions are huge! We tried each of the meats (except chicken) and they were all scrumptious. The meat was teamed with beautifully cooked fresh vegetables (4 types!!), roast potatoes, a wonderful mash, stuffing, yorkshire puds & yummy gravy. The combination of the amazing food and the very friendly service with a smile made our Sunday afternoon. Thank you and see you again soon!”

“I stayed here during the Women's Rugby World Cup (Sept 2025) as my usual hotel was full. I was unsure at first having not stayed here before though being familiar as I've had lunch a few times prior to being Warner. The room was clean, fresh and well appointed. Everything you need and with a superb view of the river. Any noise from the nearby road or Heathrow dims intonrhe background when windows are closed. The food at both dinner and breakfast is superb either in the Market Kitchen (buffet style) or Brasserie (served). I'd recommend trying both. Range of options are available and all dietary needs can (and will) be accommodated. Each evening, there is live entertainment provided. For us it was sounds of the 80s and then Billy Black Band. Absolutely superb with at seat service of drinks available. The gym, pool and spa are spot on whether you want a light pleasure pampering or fitness. I was very impressed. The staff cannot do enough to help, always carry a smile, and clearly know what they are doing. The easiest analogy I can make is it's a cruise ship on land. And a bloomin good one. This wasn't a planned stay but I will definitely be back. Very impressed.”

Stupidly I didn’t mention we would have 2 dogs with us and we had been booked in the restaurant area. I panicked and thought now some of may have to miss the meal because of my mistake. But after some re arranging the staff managed to get us all in the bar area for the meal. They were so accommodating and helpful with the situation which was not their fault. The Derby

“⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A True Local Gem with Character and Charm The Derby is a standout local pub that effortlessly blends classic charm with a welcoming atmosphere. Located just a stone’s throw from Oval tube station, it’s the perfect spot to unwind after work or enjoy a leisurely weekend pint. The interior is cozy and inviting, featuring rustic Irish memorabilia and comfortable seating that creates a relaxed environment. While it may not boast the trendiest decor, The Derby’s authenticity and warmth more than make up for it. The bar offers a solid selection of drinks, including a well-priced Guinness at £5.50. Though the ale options are limited, the quality of the beverages and the friendly service make it a worthwhile visit. Live music on Friday evenings adds to the pub’s vibrant atmosphere, showcasing local talent and enhancing the overall experience. Additionally, the Monday night pub quiz is a fun and engaging way to start the week. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, The Derby provides a genuine and enjoyable pub experience that captures the essence of community and camaraderie.”

“Popped into Prince of Peckham last week on a whim after the place we’d planned to eat still wasn’t open by 12.10pm — and I’m so glad we did. The pub was absolutely spotless, genuinely one of the cleanest I’ve been in. Our server was warm, friendly and had great style. We asked for food recommendations and she happily shared her favourites, checked in on us, and nothing was too much trouble. It was my friend’s first time there and she loved it. We ended up having a great time and I’d definitely go back again. Highly recommend.”

    Bat & Ball

    ★★★★☆ 4.3
    Closed

“We visited Bat & Ball in Stratford Westfield to watch the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix, and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. Welcome & Atmosphere We arrived slightly early and were warmly greeted at the door by a team member who quickly confirmed our reservation and directed us upstairs. Upon reaching the upper floor, we were pleasantly surprised by the range of seating options and screens available. They catered to both cricket and Formula 1 fans, which was a lovely touch. We were guided to a booth in the upper section. At first glance, we were hesitant because we couldn’t see any screens immediately. However, we soon realised there were two large screens positioned perfectly for our booth. It turned out to be an ideal hideaway spot, perfect for those of us who are a bit introverted and just want a relaxed, comfortable environment to enjoy a drink and watch the race. Pet-Friendly Touch We had our small dog with us, and although this isn’t a dog-focused venue (no water bowls or treats), the staff were welcoming and there was no issue having him with us. That level of flexibility really made the visit feel casual and inclusive. Food & Drink We ordered a butter chicken burger, a bowl of loaded fries topped with braised beef and cheese, and the hottest wings on the menu, which truly lived up to the name. Everything was delicious, arrived quickly, and was served hot and fresh. I also enjoyed a pint of Two Tribes Campfire Hazy IPA, which was a brilliant choice to accompany the meal. Service & Value The service was friendly and efficient throughout. Despite being busy, the team remained attentive. The total for our food and drinks (one IPA, one San Pellegrino, one Coca-Cola, the burger, wings, and fries) came to £55, which felt fair given the generous portions and the experience of watching live Formula 1 with Sky Sports in a high-quality venue. Summary • Atmosphere: 5/5. Lively, spacious, and full of viewing options without being overwhelming. • Service: 5/5. Quick, polite, and well-organised. • Food: 5/5. Delicious and generously portioned. • Pet-Friendliness: 4/5. Not dog-focused, but accommodating. • Value for Money: 4/5. A great lunch-and-sports combo experience but don’t expect it to be budget friendly. We’ll absolutely be back for the next race. Thanks again to the Bat & Ball team. You made our little F1 lunch date memorable.”

“I thought this place was a really good find! Located opposite the hospital, 10-15 walk from Guildford centre. I stayed in a single room, as I just needed somewhere to put my stuff overnight. The room is a standard single room size enough for a single bed, hanging space for clothes and a small desk and chair. . They provided tea and coffee making facilities, a hairdryer and a robe. The robe was needed as I had a shower room to myself, but was located down the hall (also remember to fetch slippers) Luckily though, it was very quiet when I stayed and only saw one other guest. The hotel itself is clean, nicely decorated with nice fittings. The shower room was a bit small, but couldn’t fault the power shower! Again lovely and clean. The room was also well presented and good value for money. The lady at reception was really welcoming and friendly. Also to note the doors don’t lock by themselves so make sure to take your key with you and lock doors behind you when you leave your room. I didn’t have food here, as my stay was really short but the menu seemed nice. Overall a pleasant stay and great value for money!”

It has a wonderful atmosphere and surprisingly cheap drinks for the area. I've always found both the staff and the patrons to be very friendly and welcoming.
