“What a lovely little local place in the middle of the beautiful Barbican. I can't remember the last time I had such an excellent service in a restaurant. The waiter was lovely, had a good knowledge of gins and told us about how they source the fresh fish and seafood every day. Not to mention his personal choice of music (70s-80s funk) which definitely guaranteed a good vibe. The food was amazing, I highly recommend the Trio of Fish and the Fish stew. Thank you for the great experience.”

    The Village Restaurant

    ★★★★☆ 4.6 (1,418 Reviews) Top rated Open

“We searched for lunch in Plymouth looked at the new bit which all seemed quiet so proceeded to the barbican and choose the place that looked like everyone knew about ‘Village Seafood’ it didn’t have the glitz and glam no flashing lights or big promotional stuff outside but it had people! Lots of them so what do they all know that we currently did not…. Greeted straight away, given a table and menu which was actually three menus quite vast selection. I opted for Greek then changed my mind to seafood settled on a mixed grill then ordered Greek. If you are indecisive make sure you allocate more time here. I was swayed by the table next to me having moussaka as it looked superb. My partner who’s a catch went for the cold seafood which she received in abundance personally sometimes seafood I find it to be a little small for me but this plate was full so much so I had to assist. During this time I observed other plates and food envy is high everything just looked amazing not that I would have swapped mine I just wished I could eat 6 or 7 plates… as mentioned it’s not dazzling here there’s nothing spectacular about the place like the other ‘fancy’ big chain restaurants we looked into but they don’t need it. It’s all about the food which was spectacular and for me if I’m going out eating it’s my only concern to be honest I don’t feel they are trying to impress they are just doing food and doing it very well that it impresses you as standard. You want good food here it is. The service I also thought was great very attentive we were serviced very well only slight issue was with the amount of head on the beer, we asked, they fixed, problem solved. I would say prices were good too, living in Newquay where your stung as a tourist everyday it was nice to be a tourist and be saving money whilst vastly improving the quality and experience. I am looking forward to returning who knows what I will go for next… we all know it’s fish…pie.. of the day..pasta definitely something from the menu and of no doubt it will be great.”

“Having visited The Kentish Hare, also managed and run by the Tanner Brothers, we felt we should absolutely try The Barbican Kitchen. As the ethos of both restaurants is heavily rooted in using locally sourced and seasonal produce the menu was of course different to The Kentish Hare, but equally as fabulous. Excellence service added to the excellent meals added to a 5 Star experience.”

“I had the chance to eat twice during my stay in Plymouth. And I can only recommend Salumi. The staff is nice and attentive. The decoration is quirky and fun and the food is amazing. The Sunday roast is a joy: food quality, presentation and taste. One of the best I have ever tried. For Sunday roast I highly recommend booking in advance as the place can be packed. The only downside to highlight is the price of the drinks. I reckon it is slightly pricey.”

We are staying down here for the week and I would literally drive from Wales just to eat here again. 100% I will be coming back. “Sunday Lunch I went with Hubby and very dear friends for Sunday Lunch at the Mussel Inn today and…..Wow!!!! The first 2 things that hit you is the very friendly greetings and the ambiance of this lovely village pub. Already a winner and the best place to walk into on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Sam welcomed us warmly despite being very busy with other Patrons. Front of house staff are very polite and professional with the utmost patience while we were ordering our meals. We started with Hummus - very delicate and delicious, made in house. My friend had the roast lamb which looked amazing. My Roast beef was cooked to exactly how I wanted it. The duo roast looked very tempting. The Veg trimmings cooked perfectly packed with flavour. We cleaned all our plates. Apple Crumble to celebrate such a lovely meal and experience. We were not rushed at all. Our afternoon was very relaxing. It has been a long time since Covid that we felt relaxed as opposed to other places where timed seating feels rushed. Sam checked on us and his team were very attentive. We also had the pleasure of meeting the Head Chef. This was my second experience here and will be going back with more friends. Oh and if you’re reading this and go during the week - you must try the charred aubergine!!! Yum!!”

“Area that this place is located looks a bit on the rough side (first time in Plymouth so please take that with a pinch of salt). This place is split into 2, one part is a pub with pool table and tvs to watch football, the other part is a sit in restaurant. Ordered the southern fried chicken burger meal and a few beers, I was impressed with the great customer service and lovely food. My bun was slightly over done on the toasted side, but I liked it, no complaints from me. Plenty of parking available too”

I have to say that this is an absolute gem... perhaps something unexpected given the area. The room arrangements, including the garden room, each have their chic/relaxed appeal. It looks as though good entertainment is also put on with live acts, quiz nights and l blue grass jamming sessions. Give it a go!”

“This is an incredibly authentic pub with bucket loads of character (decor, chef and bar staff). The food blows anything from your “usual local pub” out of the water. Had scallops, kind prawns and fish goujons with lovely crusty brown bread. The special beer on tap was a real treat. Atmosphere at 8pm on a Tuesday was quiet and cosy (candle light type vibe) but got lively at 9.30pm when the locals farmers arrived, who were all nice. If you are a city prince or princess this might not be for you…. but in my opinion this is a real hidden gem.”

“Another lovely stay, at this homely, family run hotel. Four days of being well looked after, by attentive friendly staff. Nice clean comfortable room, in the summer house with our dogs, who are given lots of attention and fuss, which they lap up. The management go above and beyond,to ensure all your needs are met, so you have a relaxing, stress free holiday. The food is very good, breakfast has a good selection of cereals and fresh fruit, along with a full English breakfast which is served pipping hot and well presented. The evening meals have a good selection to suit all tastes and are freshly home made and delicious, also generous portions. The grounds are well presented and pretty, ideal to relax in with a cold beer or cocktail or two, especially in the glorious weather we had for our stay. All in all, we had a lovely break here and are leaving feeling refreshed. But not before booking a return visit in September for more of the same pampering”
