Pub in Derby

“As a group of 39 people we were all seated in the outdoor pods for sunday lunch on 11th November. The atmosphere was welcoming and the staff were polite and friendly. Once seated, it was a matter of minutes before our drinks orders were taken and we got told our pre ordered food wouldn't be long. Considering the size of our group and the pub itself was extremely busy, it was impressive how quickly we all got served. The staff were amazing, nothing asked was too much for them! The food was spectacular! With mainly roast dinners being ordered, no one said a bad word about anything. The meat just fell apart and the portions were generous. I would definitely recommend The Bluebell to anyone visiting the area, although I think booking would be the best option as extremely busy!”

“Our booking was for 20 people. The service was efficient and helpful, and everyone was served in good time. Two people ordered the Aubergine dish, but it wasn't to their taste, an exchange was offered, and no charge was made. It was handled very well. Much appreciated how they sorted out the bill for us to pay individually. Excellent!”

“First time here, since it's been turned into an Indian based menu. With that the selection was reduced, but the food was really nice. All whilst being quite reasonable. It wasn't too busy and the people there were very friendly. Great experience overall”

“Called in today no booking made which is unusual for myself, service and food absolutely great as usual, even though they were busy. As regular visitors to the beacon couldn't recommend it enough. “A pleasant country pub in pretty rural surroundings. I visited with a friend ona busy Friday evening. The staff were friendly, polite, professional and managed that difficult balance of attentiveness and unobtrusiveness perfectly. Both the selection of food available and it’s quality was very good, I will have to go back to try more of the menu soon. There was a wait between ordering and service but that is expected in the context of properly cooked food and I would not want it to change.”

“Very good, tasty and well cooked. They even make their own BBQ sauce for the ribs. Mostly Chinese dishes but some Malay, and few Thai and western style dishes to mix things up. We were asking how they made their roast pork, as we fancied trying to do it for a BBQ, a while later their cook dropped round with the key ingredient we were missing and told us how to do the marinade.”

“Just been for meal at this little treasure of a restaurant. Service was beyond friendly, lovely ambience, food was out of this world. Being vegetarian for 40 years I do get bored of the same menu BUT they had a few amazing different options which I went for the beetroot and lentil bourguignon which tasted outstanding. My husband had for the pork belly and also agreed the food was beyond delicious. Very Highly recommended.”

“I stayed in Derby for a week and tried a few different places for breakfast. I found the book cafe to be the best. Excellent quality food. Particularly enjoyed the scrambled eggs which were light and flurry. Every item on the plate was of good quality. The location of the cafe is very central and the quirky ambience adds to the experience. Only slightly marked down service as there was no table service, only order at the bar was available but that said the staff were nice and friendly. I’d gladly return to the book cafe in the future and recommend to others”

“Been a few times, great service, good hookahs. Probably the best in Derby. Nice prices and interior of the place. Great choice of tobacco flavours, would add a choice of tobacco itself and it was super.”

“Had the most enjoyable lunch. We chose the Camembert to share, we have had loads of camemberts as it is one of my favourites, but I have never ever tasted one this good. We had a glass of Chardonnay to go with it and the wine was exceptional as were the people who work there. Cannot find one fault and shall definitely be returning. Thank you for such an exceptional lovely lunch and afternoon x”

“This lovely pub was a wonderful recommendation by a stranger! The food was delicious, the staff were attentive and helpful, and the atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming. Being a wheelchair user, it is accessible via the garden area, the staff removed a chair at the table for me, although I'm unsure about the amenities as I didn't need to use them. With that being said, I would recommend this delightful pub.”

“Came here for a meal on Saturday, having never been before but hearing many good things. I was super pleased! Lovely decor and friendly staff, and food was lovely. I had the aranchini to start, steak and ale pie for main and the pecan and treacle tart to finish, all of which were delicious. My partner also really enjoyed his meal. “My new favourite space! This is one of the last remaining proper pubs in Derby - it is quirky, has something for everyone, a great selection of drinks and friendly staff and customers. I can't rate this place highly enough for how relaxing it is, both inside and outside in the Urban Garden. Love love love it!”

“Nipped in while staying with friends, my beer was off, and Jimmy politely came to me and exchanged it for another beer. Plus he also give me the difference in cash. Very good service indeed. But I don't live the outside area, not pleasant enough and top garden too far from pub. But I did enjoy our visit.”

“Great traditional pub. Ales, lagers, ciders, wines. Service friendly. Covered outside area for smokers. Came in Spring so too chilly to sit outside but can imagine this please is fab on a hot summers day, whilst in winter it’s cosy.”

“Doesn't do food anymore, but there is a resident Dog and Cat who will eat your pork scratchings for you, and you will give them gladly. I didn't get pictures of the dog. Oh, and the ale is nice.”
