This place never stops conquering my heart, the food remains incredibly tasty and delicious and the coffees are outstanding. Also, the portions are generous for a great price. The service is impeccable, kind and efficient. Overall, a pleasure to spend a nice Sunday morning with the new team :)”

“Food was delicious, chilli con carne had a bit of heat and very filling. Only slight downside was a very rowdy group on a pub crawl, but one of the bar staff apologised and said they would not be staying long. Otherwise, a very cosy pub, great food and atmosphere”

“Been to central 42 many times. Staff are always friendly. My wife is celiac and they have lots of gluten choices for her. The staff are usually very well informed about cross contamination. Loads of choices of delicious food. Good idea to book if its a Saturday or Sunday. But walked in and got a table lots of times aswell. Definitely recommend a visit”

“Why did it take us so long to try the restaurant I have no idea and no excuses, however from entering the restaurant with its authentic ambience, and attentive server, we could only talk about how good the food and service was, it was plentiful, tasty, and well presented, to top it all we were presented with a kindly gesture of a beautiful sweet in recognition of our 25th wedding anniversary, how very kind, I am not one to write a review but I just had to, this was so so good, the staff and food were worth letting everyone know how good this place is, don't leave it too long, try it you won't be disappointed Thank you Fez we had a wonderful evening Mark and Lindsay Vaus”

“While we were in the area we booked for a birthday, after a recommendation and can only say we are so grateful. From the initial telephone query, through our arrival, our food, to leaving everything about the evening was fantastic. Great food in a great atmosphere and while some may say that the menu is limited, it is really a case of doing a smaller number of dishes very well. I only wish we lived closer as we would most definitely make it a regular thing.”

“We visited the Lantern restaurant on a Saturday night a couple of weeks ago and had a fantastic meal and wonderful experience. We loved the original decor the Lantern boasts and we found out that it has been in the same family for nearly 60 years! The way in which guests are welcomed and the pride and care taken in the food served, you can really tell it's a family-run establishment. For our meal, we opted to start with the calamari and garlic mushrooms. Both of these were delicious, but we loved the mushrooms so much we had to order another portion! We then had a Porterhouse steak each, which were cooked to perfection. Alongside these we ordered the fries, onion rings and pepper sauce, which for us, were the ideal accompaniments. After these first two courses we were too full to try any of the desserts, but we imagine the options are just as tasty as everything else on the menu. Despite it being a very busy night, we couldn't fault the service we received. The servers were very attentive and ensured we were well looked after all evening - they really made us feel at home. We can't recommend the Lantern enough. Everyone should experience this hidden gem at least once. We'll certainly be back when we're next in the area!”

“A little Portuguese bar cum coffee shop. . I asked did they have Licor 43 and a Portuguese equivalent to carajillo. The answer to both questions was no. What could we try? Various possibilities were suggested. Eventually a sweet liqueur was suggested. A shot in an espresso cup, topped up with a shot of espresso. The result, an alcohol fortified espresso. A not unpleasant drink for a cold damp late afternoon as dusk was settling. Cost of the drink created for the bar, with helpful suggestions, £1-50. Cash only”

“Absolutely fantastic! The food was gorgeous and workers were so friendly. Very comfortable prices for what you get. We got the meze platter for 2 people and it was £15pp for a three course presentation- divine food, 100% recommend for everybody for every occasion”

“I had a phenomenal experience here last week! Popped in for brunch on a Sunday and the service was truly amazing. A lovely guy called Alfie looked after us. I was enquiring about any vegan options and Alfie was so patient and kind, he went out of his way to arrange for the vegetarian breakfast to be made vegan. I asked if it was possible to turn the music down upstairs as I have hearing loss and expected it to be a bit of a hassle, Alfie was an angel and acted like it was no big deal at all and very quickly resolved this. Alfie was just the most friendly, sweet and helpful guy, nothing was too much trouble for him to help us with, and he came across as a really genuine person that takes the time to treat all customers like they're friends, he created such a welcoming vibe and I felt really at ease even though I'm a bit awkward with my hearing! It was the best service I've had in a long time, and if Alfie isn't a manager he definitely deserves a raise, he made us want to come back again and again. The only slight suggestion I have, separate to anything practical, is for the menu to outline vegan options. I used to come in many years ago and they always had vegan options noted on the menu. There wasn't anything stated as vegan on the menu and the veggie breakfast had to be modified rather than being able to order a vegan breakfast. If I hadn't been planning to meet my friend there I might have been put off and assumed vegans weren't really provided for. It would go a long way just having a few options on the menu or noting what is vegan. Simple stuff like a vegan fry up (hash browns, beans, tomatoes, toast with vegan margarine, mushrooms, vegan sausages), avocado on toast, beans on toast. Regardless, we'd definitely be back as it was the best service we've had in Hull! Thanks Alfie. You're a legend.”

“Located inside the indoor market, Joella's is solid German food, with a little twist. I went for the schnitzel pitta - think of a Greek gyro with breaded chicken on the inside and you've got the idea. The schnitzel was made to order, and was filled with fresh salad and skin-on fries with some mayo and spicy house sauce, if you're feeling brave. They also do a large serving of currywurst with fries, sauerkraut and pickles, which I'll be coming back for, and foot-long fries are also on the menu. The owners are friendly, the food is fresh, and there's a car park next door which offers two hours for free. Check it out.”

“Had a fantastic meal here tonight for my wife's birthday. She got her hollumi fix with a generous portion on her salad, I had the chicken stroganoff which was excellent. The cocktail was lovely too. Service was spot on, attentive and friendly. All in all a great night out with great food. We will be back!”

Everything that came out looked amazing and our charcuterie and cheese board (there were hot meals on the menu, but we didn’t have time) was unbelievable and everything was of the highest quality. “Easily the best homemade pizzas & kebabs in Hull! Top quality ingredients, fresh every time, and full of flavour. The kebabs are perfectly cooked and the pizzas are proper homemade with great dough and generous toppings. Consistently spot on & excellent service. Highly recommended!”
