“This is a great place for a relaxed coffee or lunch. We found the coffee and food really good and the service excellent. My husband is in an electric wheelchair but despite the journey through the store and up in the lift, access was ok and the staff eager to find us a good spot in the cafe. Original, wholesome and relaxing coffee spot. We’re holidaying between Harrogate and York again and we will visit this place several times…. Just off there now in fact!”
“Excellent food and drinks and fresh breads and pastries etc ,lovely staff and service and the prices are amazing”
“I would say you wouldn't find a better place to have a meal. The service. The meals .The atmosphere, are all brilliant. Leon, his wife, and daughter are amazing too, they can't do enough for you. Would highly recommended leons to anybody. See before and after photos .”
“Beautiful room, great location. Had a lovely overnight during our 2 week UK trip. We stayed in the 4 poster room - bed could have been a little more comfortable (thin mattress, no boxspring), but the room is sweet and the bathroom was nice and modernized with a spacious shower. The location is unbeatable - on a lovely quiet historic street while still being super close to the train station and great walking distance to the center. Self check in was seamless and easy. Would definitely recommend!”
“Amazing Portuguese shop with many grocery's and a lot of Brazilian grocery's too. It's an excellent shop, the staff is the best there is especially that one girl”
“Proper stacked brownies and blondies. I challenge anyone to buy a box of tray bakes, on a Friday, thinking they'll save them to eat over the weekend. It's almost impossible.”
“Great experience everytime. Usually come in a big group but this is no problem for the team. Coffee always perfect. Jamie is an absolute star.”
“Lovely atmospheric place for a morning coffee. Literally felt like we sat in a castle's underground prison (because we were!) Coffee was nice and service was quick. We didnt have anything to eat but the sandwiches looked good. Only thing is there are no toilets here! They are the other side of the bridge in the library!”
“We found Major Tom's Social to be very welcoming. They serve a wide selection of good beers and play an eclectic selection of music. They only have a small food menu. However, the food is so good they don't need a wider range. We felt that a lot of thought went into the food and drink offers.”
“This lovely hidden gem is a delight of rustic charm. The staff are warm and happy to see you. The soup is a delight with a lovely cultured toasted bread side topped off with a perfect brew! Make sure you go upstairs for a really relaxing atmosphere and comfort with views of the street.”
“Great place to chill , meet, let kids play indoors and out, enjoy nature! Sit comfortably in or out, great ice cream and milk shakes ( as you'd hope at milk churn lol). The afternoon tea is great, food and value. Just good for a quick stop off even, for a nice scone and cuppa.. my little reward driving back from Seacroft hosp. My little nieces, love it too, nice environment, they always make nice new friends. Perfect to enjoy on a sunny day, and relax. Enjoy! X”
“Called in for a takeaway flat white, staff were really friendly and the flat white was made perfectly with really great tasting coffee. The food looks amazing here too for a lunch time, with super reasonable prices. Will definitely be back.”
“See the update at the end of this original review. We have been coming here since the very beginning. It started with a kiosk while the cafe was being finished. We were extremely impressed by the fabulous coffee and brilliant staff. When Caffe Valeria was opened we knew we had found “our” place! We visit often, both as a couple and some times with friends. The coffee is and the choice of cakes and pastries is excellent. The staff are always smiling and making us feel welcome. All the staff are helpful and kind. We must mention George, Liv and Olly as going above and beyond to make us feel special. Please don’t change a thing. Helen and David Update, George, Liv and Ollie (the stars of Valeria’s) have all left taking its heart with them. We no longer go there. Staff could be better trained, owner unpleasant. We feel we have lost something very special.”
“Called in this morning. Food was freshly cooked and very very tasty.portions were large. Polite and friendly staff.my family loved this little treasure of a cafe.”
“This is a tiny cafe above a bookshop. Both are queer spaces, full of flags, acceptance and super friendly staff. I can highly recommend the bi passionfruit cake. The cafe is a meeting place for young people who identify as LGBTQ+, so if you have an issue with them you're not at all welcome here. This cafe is absolutely perfect for students but, to reiterate, it is very small!”
“Absolutely fantastic little cafe right behind York Minster. It has about 3 tables (for two) inside the cafe but quite a good number of tables outside. We had coffee and cake, which were both excellent! Can totally recommend!”
“Saved my life during the birth of my child at the hospital next door with a 4 day induction of labour. Excellent sandwich. I don't know if it was sleep deprivation or what but the brown sauce will always live in my memory (I reckon it was just daddies).”
“They seem to know what they're doing and knows what wine is good for the occasion you would need it for. Would recommend if you're looking for, at least what I call, quality wine. Also, if you need help carrying your shopping to your car, they are more than happy to help! :)”
“Excellent service from the staff. Very helpful, can guide you if required, or allow you to browse a very presentable stock of wines and spirits at leisure. The customer taster area is excellent, often with a good choice, which allow you to try new wines you might not have considered. The best store in this chain. Recommended.”
“Beautiful food. We got a variety of food i.e jungle burger, cheese burger, chicken burgers. Staff are so nice and considerate and welcoming. Would highly recommend to everyone to please try and visit this geeat place.”
“Great coffee and reasonably priced too, service with a smile always!”
“Went in there today Tuesday 11th june 2024 lovely young man who served us, who was very knowledgeable and helped us with making our choices .”
“Such a cozy gem. I stopped by for breakfast and was genuinely impressed. The vibe is warm and welcoming, the two gentlemens super friendly, and the food… absolutely delicious! I had their breakfast plate with eggs, toast, and a creamy flat white Their coffee was smooth and rich, perfect for a slow morning or takeaway ☕ Whether you’re catching up with friends or just treating yourself, Cafe@Number1 is the perfect spot to start your day. Can’t wait to go back!”
“A brilliant spot in Elland for breakfast, lunch, or just coffee and cake. We popped in on the off chance without booking a table, as we needed a lunch break after moving into the area. They managed to accomodate the six of us with no issues and the server was great. The flat white was a beautiful roast, really smooth and well made, and the hot chocolates were rich and delicious. We had the pancake stack, eggs, and festive sanwiches all cooked perfectly and full of flavour!! It was great quality of food and drinks in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Friendly service too — we’ll definitely be back soon. I already have my eye on several items on the menu. - I keep popping by for a takeaway flat white when i am passing, the coffee roast is unreal, best ive had.”
“Nice bar this, serving a great selection of cask and keg ales, pies from the maestro that is Gordon at Le Gourmet in Brighouse, always a good pint and really friendly staff with a warm welcome, dog friendly pub, great prices and loads of seating, whats not to love? A must if in the area, highly recommend.”
“Good food. We went for my partners birthday. Great service. Throughly enjoyed it.”
“My second visit to York and I always come to Spring Espresso for breakfast/brunch. Their food is amazing and their service is top notch. :)”
“Very informative & helped us plan our day.”
“Yummy food, variety in menu and the most aesthetic halal breakfast/brunch around. I've been here several times over the years - and can say with confidence I have never faulted the food, it is always warm and tasty, full of flavour. Nice variety of things on the menu too. The service has always been good, they try their best to accommodate even when busy. However, the booking system does need to be more efficient, rather than messaging on Instagram. They forgot to add my name down but quickly accommodated. Also I would be excited to see them expanding to a bigger place, as it does feel cramped and tight sometimes when full. That being said, the decor and vibe is really nice though. Excited to see you guys expand - there's a gap for you here in Sheffield!”
“Excellent place. Cosy and comfortable. Great coffee and tea.”
