“Really enjoyed our Christmas lunch at The Royal Oak today. Staff couldn't have been more pleasant and attentive to our needs plus special fusses for our son and daughter in law to bes dogs and turkey treats from the kitchen for them too. We humans were treated to the most delicious food, we all savoured our starters, mains and desserts. Nothing was too much trouble. Our compliments to the chef and all the staff who worked really hard today so we could enjoy a fabulous, relaxing Christmas day.”

“Been coming here for many years before it was a Green King pub. First visit under the Green King ownership and it didn't disappoint, quite the opposite. I need to mention the chap with the beard behind the bar on the evening of Thursday 20th November, what a pleasure he was. Fantastic friendly service a breath of fresh air. Food and drink were fab too. Been to Green Kings all over the country and this was one of the best. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐”

“We stopped by this pub on a whim after facing a long wait at Toby Carvery—and we’re so glad we did! What started as a backup plan turned into a brilliant surprise. The food was absolutely spot on: full of flavour, perfectly cooked, and clearly made with care. The service was just as impressive—friendly, attentive, and more than happy to accommodate custom tweaks to our orders without hesitation. “One of the best places to get Chinese food in the area always quick delivery piping hot and fresh, some of their items are spicy but you can ask for them to made milder if you like. The duck spring rolls are packed full and taste so good.”

“What a gem! We’re staying nearby and this was our closest takeaway when we couldn’t be bothered to cook. Ordered 3 different main courses and 3 different sides. All were excellent but the noodles were exceptional. Had seen that free prawn crackers were on offer after spending a certain amount but failed to notice until after paying that free spring rolls were also available for a higher spend but our bill was 10p short! The staff gave us the freebee anyway. Friendly staff, great food & generous portions at a reasonable price. Highly recommended”

“Lovely place, last minute decision from us after a long day. Lovely candle lit dinner and amazing food! The young lady was very attentive and handled everything brilliantly so hats off to you. My only snag was I asked the younger guy for another drink and It never arrived so had to ask the lady for one instead but that’s very minor. All in all I would recommend 10/10”

“Called in for a coffee whilst out shopping. Staff were lovely, friendly and excellent customer service. Cafe is small and cosy and drinks are good quality, as always from Cafe Nero. Cakes looked delicious, but too full from lunch to try one. Will leave room next time”

“We booked the Private Dining Room on Sunday to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary. There were 18 of us in total. We had a great relaxing time, as we were not rushed in anyway. The food was to an excellent standard. delicious and served hot to everyone at the same time. The staff especially Ellie were very friendly, efficient and couldn't do enough to make everyone welcome and looked after. We had lots of compliments about the meals, the venue and the staff. The room was lovely with lovely views over the garden. We could not find a fault with anything and would encourage anyone looking for a venue for their event not to hesitate booking Rake Hall.”

“Went in for dinner after wet day at the zoo. Pub was nice and warm when walked in and straight away the smell of the food in carvery smelt fantastic. Bar staff were welcoming young lady that served me I think was called Lindsey. We all ordered a soft drink and carvery each( 3 adults 2 children) chefs working on carvery one was Kenny didn't catch the other lads name but both were very pleasant. Young lady called Ellie brought are deserts who was also very attentive and smilie.”

“We rented their apartment unit with my parents to visit family in the Chester area. We stayed for 5 days. It was the best decision we ever made. The staff was courteous, the location is more than ideal. There are many shops in the area to get snacks or take-out. We never cooked, except for breakfast, but there is a fully loaded kitchen. It was clean and stylish, and close to everything. About a 5 min cab ride to the train station, and a five minute walk to major shopping and historical sites. They made cots available to us, and helped us with directions, or trouble shooting with the washing machine (included in the laundry room). Very reasonably priced, we found, as well. Would recommend to anyone, our relatives will be doing the same, hope to be back to visit another time!”
