“Very cosy pub! The chefs make the best, crispiest chicken wings, the drink selection is amazing, the barrista makes the fanciest cup of coffee, and the atmosphere is great. Lots of seats. Smoking spots out front and in the back.”

“I can wholeheartedly recommend the ancient mariner for a fantastic meal! We were a group and we’re in for a lunchtime get together. We opted for a wide range of small plates which were all excellent and i must make a special mention about the braised beef and cheddar croquettes and the battered fish and chips was out of this world.”

“We decided to enjoy a roast at The Egremont and were lucky to arrive early enough to get the last table before they filled up with 100 pre booked roast dinners I ordered the lamb shank, while my friend chose beef, both served with crispy roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, red cabbage, mashed swede, broccoli, carrots, and parsnips—much more than we expected! We also shared a giant portion of cauliflower cheese and some massive pigs in blankets, which we affectionately dubbed The Egremont sausage surprise. The food was delicious and plentiful, and I even shared some of the pigs in blankets with the neighboring table, & bought some food home - If you plan to go, I recommend making a reservation! “I came here in search of food to cater for my severe nut allergy having not felt confident to eat at another restaurant. The girl behind the bar was brilliant, and Chris the Chef was extremely thorough at checking all the ingredients and ensuring there was no cross-contamination. 10/10 for the service, and I will 100% eat and drink here again when passing through for work. 10/10 for the atmosphere too!”

“A massive thank you for making my 60th last night so special (Nov 2nd, 2024). I've been going to this amazing pub since my 20's and more often in my mid 40's with my daughter and her crew. Good times were had & great memories were made. When asked what I wanted to do for my 60th, JB's was the obvious choice. I wasn't disappointed! This little pub hasn't changed in 40 years! Proper traditional pub. The staff are awesome! The barman even remembered me from 16/17 years ago! It was like 'going home'. Thank you to the staff and everyone, especially the new friends we made, for making my birthday so special! ❤️”

“We did the bottomless brunch with Szymon aka shimmy!! What a brilliant time we had. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left he was attentive and made us feel like the only people in the bar despite the bar being full of Christmas parties. Would thoroughly recommend the bottomless brunch and Harlequins especially if served by Szymon!”

“We had a really lovely experience at Carne last night. The atmosphere is great; it’s warm and cosy but with enough space between tables to give it a romantic feel. The service was brilliant and the food was amazing. We had the filet steak as well as the tartar and the prawns to start. Everything was fabulous with great flavours and the steak was cooked to perfection. Would definitely recommend for either a date night or a night out with friends. We loved it.”

“What a beautiful cafe and bar, to view all the wonderful cats (my favourite was Fifi so stoic and statue-like). The staff were friendly and made sure we knew all about the kitties and gave us treats to give to them. We had some cocktails which were very nice and some focaccia which was warm and crispy (yum). Would recommend if you love cats and observing their funny behaviour, very chill!”

“This place is amazing. Loved the vibe, music, and most importantly the food. We were looking for the perfect place that served breakfast; cooked for me and vegan for my wife. After looking at several places, we found Kooks. We were served by the very friendly Glyn. What arrived was knock-out (see photos). My poached eggs were perfect. Real attention to detail with the cooking. And my wife’s yoghurt and granola was exactly what she craved, but there was also a vegan cooked breakfast option. Cannot recommend this place highly enough and we’ll be going back the next time we’re in Brighton. Love love love ❤️”

“My sister and I made a pilgrimage here from the U.S., as our 3rd great grandparents ran the pub about 200 years ago. We happened in on a Sunday afternoon and enjoyed the Sunday roast along with l excellent service. Everything was delicious and top notch. On learning of our presence, the manager came and welcomed us. Thanks for everything, Seven Stars!”

“My partner and I took a chance and entered this venue which was surprisingly quiet. The menu had brunch items which were appealing. We chose our table, the decor was really cool, servers were exceptionally friendly and when the food came out, it was excellent. Reasonably priced and great quality. Served with a smile. “Fabulous local pub. 5 of us and 2 dogs and sat in beer garden. Service was fab and very welcoming. Food was delicious and freshly made and well presented. Guys regularly checked if everything was ok and if we needed anything. Would 100% return if I go the Newhaven again”

“Have eaten or drunk at this pub a few times now, and have yet to be dissapointed. The food is always incredible (the duck dish on the special menu is particularly tasty), and the drinks are good value with a good variety of beer on tap, spirits and cocktails. Have always been welcomed with a smile and good vibes from the bar staff, and the Saturday night bands are are always good entertainment too! Will always pop in if I'm in the area ☺️”

“Great experience/meal here. I would especially note how good the staff were. Very on it with everything and extremely friendly and professional. 10/10. One very tiny critisism is the nacho sharing platter is a bit smaller than it used to be but it was still enough for 2 people. Still it doesn't take away from the lovely experience. Prices are decent, good service. What more can you want. Thanks very much”

“What a fun place to stumble upon whilst driving past. The staff dress up in cowboy outfits and the Halloween decor was really fun the kids loved it. Good food, kids enjoyed the pizza and the burgers were tasty. Refillable drinks is good too. It is on the pricier side.”

“Is this Brighton’s best kept secret? Hands down, the Charles Napier offers the best quiz night in Brighton. Taking place every Sunday night, quiz master David Potter throws out questions over a broad range of subjects that will have you wishing you had studied harder at school! Great, quirky pub too, with a warm welcome and fine selection of beers. Thoroughly recommended.”

“Nearly always go in here for food when I visit my mother in Seaford. Simon and crew are extremely courteous and friendly and the food exceptional. All freshly made in house. They ran out of beef wellington yesterday and he quickly whipped one up for me. Doesn't come much fresher than that. Can't praise the quality or service enough. Thoroughly recommended.”

“Work christmas do, reserved for 13 people, easy booking, good communication beforehand. Table was decorated beautifully, food was delicious from xmas menu. Service was friendly and accommodating. Music was good, not too loud but just right. Not too busy at bar.”
