“A traditional pub feel, but NOT old stuffy. Dropped in for a swift pint and was so taken by the atmosphere, excellent beer (I had the porter) and a superb pizza, I just had to stay for another.”
“There for first time yesterday .great staff and lovely guinness and very reasonably priced drinks”
“Even though I have been for a few nights out in Parkgate during the last few years, I've only just gone in to The Red Lion! I wasn't sure what to expect but oh wow...I was pleasantly surprised and had a wonderful evening. It is warm, welcoming and friendly from the start. There is a cosy open log fire, a vast array of drinks to choose from, good wines, great non-alcoholic beer selection and comfy seats. We were a few seats short for our group but the manager went out of his way to re-arrange a few things and make it work for us...and he did so with a smile and a great attitude. He made sure to talk to the locals and overall this place just has that really honest, decent feeling you want from a local pub. It's recently been redecorated I believe and it looks really great in there, there is also plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the stunning Parkgate view. This pub is a must on your visit to Parkgate.”
“Best sausage and egg barn and a lovely walk over rimrose valley”
“We go the station house most Sundays for Sunday lunch and a few drinks. The atmosphere is very nice and chilled and the staff are very friendly. They offer good food and good service and we highly recommend going and trying it out.”
“very good treatment, incredible atmosphere, and very friendly, we did not feel any racism or contempt at any time, we will definitely return, thanks to Lewis for the attention and John for buying us some drinks”
“Went for bottomless brunch and was served by Megan and Jaxson, really lovely and enjoyed our brunch, catered for both veggie and meat, cocktails were amazing! Really tasty! really understanding. Would definitely recommend!”
“I park here when I'm lucky enough to get a ticket for Anfield. Very warm and welcoming staff. Great pint and very reasonable prices”
“My grandsons christening was held in the function room on the 26th May, I must say the staff were so welcoming and friendly, prices for drinks were surprisingly low. Nothing was a problem from setting up to cleaning up. Everyone went above and beyond. So much so that my daughter is hiring again for a 40th birthday. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PUB AND FUNCTION VENUE 5☆ ALL THE WAY”
“Had a lovely evening here at our first visit. It certainly won't be our last! Loved the food, jerk chicken, rice and peas, festival and jerk gravy, also scotchie sauce. The cocktail I had, rum punch, was the best I've tasted anywhere and the guinness punch my husband had was great too. The music was perfect and the service excellent. Cannot recommend highly enough and cannot wait to return. This couple deserve to succeed, they are passionate about this restaurant and it shows”
“Great beer selection, nice staff, great vibe!”
“Food is best in Runcorn - fresh proper cooking. Very flavourful. The soft tacos are amazing, loaded fries and burgers all better than most big city places. Chips are some of best I've had anywhere. Staff are super friendly and food is cooked quick whilst still being top quality. Great atmosphere for drinking and cocktails always nice, good variety of drinks, great atmosphere. Always doing takeout food at the weekend as a treat and food value compared to others in Runcorn”
“Amazing food. Will definitely be back. The tastiest black pudding I've ever had, proper butter with your toast, even the beans where amazing. Coffee fantastic too”
“Amazing place - found via Michelin Guide. Food quality was beyond expectations - particularly the foccaccia was super tasty. Variety was perfect and everything was very fresh. Location and the atmosphere of the restaurant are perfect too! Highly recommended to visit - worth to make a reservation.”
“This is a proper locals pub, I only ever found about this place because a mate told me about it. The pub itself from the outside looks like it isn't open lol, and the sign is half hanging off but when you go in there it was rammed packed and quite big inside. We sat out the back on these beer kegs which had been converted into seats. The pub itself I don't think has been renovated in a very long time but I like that kind of stuff. I would recommend coming here.”
“Wonderful atmosphere, really interesting modified jukebox with amazing song choices, staff super helpful and always kind plus good prices and choices. Would recommend if in Wigan”
“Popped in here on Easter Sunday as in the area on the off-chance they would be able to fit us in without a booking. The guy at the door was super friendly and helpful and managed to get us a table. Not a huge amount of vegetarian/vegan options on the menu but what we did have was really good.”
“Good menu choices, meal was of good quality and plentiful. The desserts were delicious, with my adult granddaughter saying it was the best chocolate fudge cake she had ever tasted. My raspberry bakewell tart and custard was the best I've ever tasted. At least four cask beers on offer and good lager choice as well. Service was exceptional being both friendly and attentive.”
“Visited just before Christmas and had a lovely meal. I went for the beef salad which was so good. They did forget the extra fries ordered but the lady was apologetic. Service was really good, even though it was very busy we didn’t have to wait a long time. Would definitely return.”
“Another update with pictures of chicken wing appetizer and the chicken and beef Sunday dinner - as ever great food. An amazing selection of beers at a very reasonable price. Service is exemplary and nothing ever seems any trouble. Even a taster of a new beer is given with even asking about it, like they read your mind when not sure. Atmosphere is perfect for a snug brew house. And of course the food is great as well anything for a quick bite to Sunday lunch. Well worth a visit or two.”
“It was a cold snd and rainy day Walked in to a lovely atmosphere very friendly staff. And a roaring fire going lovely and warm. I would definitely recommend this pub and would definitely go back when were next over in Liverpool”
“Great pub, all welcome, great karaoke on a Friday night, and great Guinness!!”
“Brilliant Birthday meal. Thank you The only negative is with the duck leg, the presentation looks really nice but the pancakes split when they are then rolled”
“A friendly pub in the heart of the community. Staff are great and beer is reasonably priced. The pool table is the heart of this typical local.”
“All in all a great local place with decently priced dinks - few times as we've been, never encountered any issues at all. They do live music occasionally, also a great place to play some pool - quite a few great players frequent here.”
“If you want a traditional boozer that is dog friendly this is your place to go. Great beer great atmosphere and friendly people. Dave the landlord does a great job”
“It's really good. Beer was tasty and pretty cheap really. Everyone who worked there was either nice or very cool. They do gigs on a Monday night! Well recommend. I'll go again if they let me back.”
“I've eaten here a few times now and have always found the staff, service and food to be excellent. I've popped in on a weekend without booking and they've very kindly found us a table, not that I'm recommending just rocking up unannounced of course, but they do go above and beyond to help you out. I'm sure you'll enjoy a nice quite meal here. Sunday lunch for four, with an alcoholic drink each £80'ish.”
“If you like a nice cosy country pub away from loud and rowdy crowds this is your place! The staff are amazing and helpful, very busy tending to tables and always smiling! The food was amazing and at a quality I would put at a level alongside several high end restaurants we have visited and at a very reasonable price. I had the spicy belly pork bites for a starter which I would recommend, for mains I had the cod and chips with mushy peas which was cooked perfectly. We eat out regularly when we are out and about and would safely say this is the best pub serving food we have visited within a 50 mile radius of Liverpool! 10/10........ only the 1 picture of food unfortunately as was too busy eating it!”
