“Called in here with a workmate,killing a couple of hours between jobs. It was very quiet at around 4.30pm, but within an hour was very busy. Cracking selection of beers/lagers. Very friendly lady behind the bar. We both ordered the fish fingers on ciabatta - very, very nice, and the chips were proper ones too, none of your oven chips here! Staff were very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended!”

All the food and drinks ordered were fantastic, generous portions and red hot. It got busier as we were there and some people couldn't be accommodated due to being so busy. Didn't have desserts but they looked very tempting. Lovely outdoor area but the heavens had opened, however must ve very busy in summer. “Enjoyed the roast dinner sitting outside in the sunshine one late April Sunday. Great pint of Landlord, too. Themed nights including Caribbean. Nice pub with contemporary decor that has kept some traditional features inside, with the added outside area having been created to a great standard. Bikes zooming past along Chesterfield Road a bit annoying but the food distracted from that. Choice of beef, chicken or gammon, large freshly made yorkies, cauliflower cheese, a massive boat of gravy and accompanying veg. Good portion.. although it needed to be at £16! I would mention more about the high price of a Sunday lunch here, was it not for the fact that it was blooming delicious!! Grandma's Bread and butter pudding to finish (bloody lovely Grandma) and a couple of pints of Rutland ale. Great pub and well positioned for local walks before or after to Ashover and beyond. Great food, Good beer selection, well placed to explore the area and make a day of it.”

I wasn't sure it was open at first as it was quite gloomy inside however the friendly and cheerful landlord (I think) reassured me it was and beckoned me inside. The apparent "gloominess" was in fact part of the Halloween decorations. Had a pleasant pint of Neck Oil and sat down to enjoy the ambiance and a refreshing classic rock oriented playlist. There's not many pubs you walk in and can hear The Scorpions etc. playing. Would have happily stayed longer had I not had a bus to catch but I'll definitely pop in next time.”
