“We had Tom as our server. Confident and friendly. Made an amazing salted caramel cocktail. Lovely atmosphere, with welcoming staff”
“I have visited Higher Ground on numerous occasions and love the decor, atmosphere and delicious food. Staff are always polite and attentive. I often visit with my children and mum who has mobility issues and staff go out of their way to accommodate us on a table that is accessible for her. The food is always delicious, and it is clear that they use the best locally sourced products. I usually go for brunch but recently tried the Shawarma wrap that was amazing. Would definitely recommend.”
“Lewis was fab today for our bottomless brunch! Really friendly and attentive! Lovely to look at too! Always a bonus! Great service! Will defo be returning for that!”
“This is my favourite place in Congleton. The cocktails are always consistently excellent, and I love how the bill is presented. If you want an upmarket place to impress, go here.”
“On our first visit to Congleton we were lucky to stop here for a beer and a half. Great wee place run by a nice host. If you want to sit and chat over a beer or two this is for you.”
“The Horseshoe in Astbury is an absolute gem! The food is nothing short of amazing – beautifully cooked, full of flavor, and presented with care. Whether you're enjoying a hearty meal or a lighter option, the quality truly stands out. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a charming rustic vibe that makes it the perfect spot for a relaxed meal. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always ensuring that you feel welcomed and well looked after. It's the ideal place for any occasion, whether you're dining with family, meeting friends, or just looking for a cozy escape with great food. Highly recommended!”
“Deniz is a lovely place to come for food, this is the second time I have been and both times, the service, staff and atmosphere has always been incredible. Everything on the menu is delicious, the food comes out very prompt! The staff have always been extremely friendly, they couldn’t do anymore for you. I first came for my Mum’s birthday at Lunch and we had such a lovely time, we said we would recommend and come back. Tonight we came for my friends birthday and they couldn’t have done enough for us, they even sang him Happy Birthday in Turkish. Very kind people and we will bring more people back to this restaurant.”
“Warmly welcomed on entering, able to choose where we sat, which is always nice. Cosy country pub feel with a roaring fire. Food was of a good standard and well presented. The selection of bees and wines was very good, having Kopperburg crisp apple on draughty, was a first for me. The view from the garden is spectacular, and we will definitely make it one of our summer destinations.”
“Nice quirky place to have a drink and something to eat. The place itself was clean and presented well. Staff were friendly and polite and made you feel welcome.”
“We visited yesterday for a family wedding and we were made to feel very welcome from the start. It is a super wedding venue and the staff were very organised and ensured that it all ran very smoothly. One member of staff who stood out to us was Sophie. She was so accommodating and nothing was too much trouble for her. She served the canapés in a very efficient and friendly manner. The following morning ( today ) she served us with a delicious breakfast and was as helpful as she had been yesterday. She certainly stood out to us but I will add that all the staff worked efficiently and calmly throughout the day. Thank you for a lovely day xx”
“Boothroyd agrees that this a good place for an old King to drink. Surprisingly large pub with a rear patio. Boothroyd decided on a pint of draught Bass. Very good traditional ale. Sat in the strand twixt bar and garden, close to the Throne Room. Enjoyed the music.”
“Recently reopened and what a pleasure to visit. We have walked, cycled and driven to this pub. Situated on the main road from Biddulph to Congleton, and a stones throw from the Biddulph valley way, it’s a perfect place for a pit stop. Warm, welcoming and relaxed, serving basic pub grub, but done just right and at a reasonable price! Staff are friendly and welcoming and after a couple of visits, remember you, which adds to the experience. Good selection of beers and wines, with Timothy Taylor being a very nice pint.”
“great bar/ pub, just been for first time with friends who live in congleton, not been before but good selection of drinks and really nice staff. had the Joshua fight on too so assume they do most sports on the screens. have pool table and outdoor garden.”
“A great pub, Mandy & Mark do a great job. My first choice for a night with family or friends.”
“Love this pub, great atmosphere, friendly staff and great service...”
“Stopped off for lunch. Had the most amazing food. My gammon was full of flavour and so tasty (the best I have had in years). The staff were very pleasant and helpful.”
“Lovely place to stay. Very clean and comfortable rooms. Breakfast was delightful. Staff were professional, friendly and welcoming. I would visit here again.”
“Robinson's Brewery has, for many years, provided us with excellent pubs and, in the case of the Unicorn in Congleton, not disappointed. The refurbishment was, undoubtedly, money well spent and I wish the Landlord and Staff all success. Norman A Dean”
“What a great find. The barmaid was so accommodating her baps were awesome. Nice pint of Guinness and friendly locals I will certainly be going back.”
“We arrived on an early sunday evening and it was busy. However the host (possibly a manager) she kindly acknowledged me and advised she would be with me shortly. Soon after she returned and was able to accommodate our walk in table request for 3 people and a dog. She was very friendly and welcoming. I think there is just one room where dogs can sit but the room was very pleasant with all the Christmas decorations and fairly lights. Our table was by the fire which was nice and they kindly lit it for us on request. The gentleman who served us was very pleasant and friendly. Possibly a manager ( sorry I didn't get his name) but he was dressed different to the other staff and he was very accommodating getting water for the dog etc. The food was delicious and a decent size, we all had Sunday roasts and they were excellent. Beautifully presented and very tasty. They even kindly let my mum have the kids version as due to dietary issues she can't eat too much. This place has a lovely ambience, all the staff were very friendly and pleasant, even fellow customers were friendly. There was a big table near us that were no trouble and seemed nice but as they were quite drunk they were very loud and even swearing quite a bit which isn't ideal when trying to enjoy a relaxing meal but it didn't spoil our meal at all we just decided to have the coffee and desert at home in a bit more peace :-) We live nearby and having passed by many times we always thought how nice it looked from the outside so we had wanted to visit for a while. I am so glad we finally did and we all said how lovely it was inside and that we would definitely return based on this visit. Delicious food, average prices, lovely, friendly staff and a cosy welcoming atmosphere, what more could you ask for. Thank you to the guy who looked after us so well, he was very pleasant and made us feel very welcome.”
“Came to the flowerpot a few weeks ago, great food, great vibes, lovely staff served by courtney, mya and manager holly. Will be back soon! Only note is that music could be a little better and updated.”
“Don’t know what the idiot below is on about , Mountbatten a temple of tolerance and cleanliness with great atmosphere people just like a moan I guess.”
“We loved the atmosphere and the great variety of cuisines! I especially reccomend the Brazilian place Boteco, and the Dublin Bar does a good array of drinks. Will definitely be back to same the other places!”
“After a busy day ,we called for an early evening meal. The pub is Beautiful and very well run.The food was outstanding. We ordered the special Rib Eye steak, the portion size was extremely generous, and cooked perfectly. Delicious food and a lovely warm reception. Thank you. Would highly recommend.”
“Very well run pub, 2 excellent pool tables, well kept beer, clean and functional toilets, lots of seating. My only gripe- and I'd knock it half a star for this if I could - is the music is often too loud and you have to shout to be heard. Not worth dropping to 4 stars for though. Great place.”
“We had a lovely stay here. The lodges are fantastic and the honesty shop is great for if you forget something. We would 100% stay again.”
“Visited The Railway Inn yesterday as a halfway point to meet a friend. Had an excellent experience. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food was fresh, tasty & homemade. The chef came to ask if everything had been OK. Will definitely be back!”
“We went for Christmas Day and wow the staff are on another level. Jordan, maisey and every member of staff who served us was amazing. The food was exceptional and the atmosphere made our Christmas perfect. We will be booking next and cannot to come back”
“Lovely pub in a great location, with a carpark at the rear of the premises. You can enjoy the food and drink knowing it's all at a reasonable price, without sacrifice to quality. I can recommend this pub as one of the best in Congleton.”
