“Stayed here for 3 nights and has been the best hotel I have stayed at. Price was £220 but worked out good value sharing the room with a friend (£110 each). Hotel is located in a great central location with a large car park 2 min walk away. This was handy as we could make a quick getaway to our days out in the local area. The room was brilliant. A really comfy bed. And a nice en-suite. The highlight of the room was the built in air con. Having this was a real privilege and made sleeping much more comfortable. Staff were great asking if we needed anything else. Would thoroughly reccomend anyone stay here. Another added bonus is you can take your drink upstairs if you wanted to chill out in quiet. A brilliant place to stay”
“My bestest local ever love all the guys there”
“As a retired exile, living in the East Midlands, I don't get home often enough. In fact, my last visit was last March, when I had the very good fortune to discover the Hendrewen through tinterweb. This hotel is the best kept secret in the Rhondda!! The welcome that I received from Jim and Julie was terrific, as was my acceptance by the locals. It was the weekend of the England v Wales game and unknown to me my son, who also lives here in the East Midlands, had arranged to follow me down, with some of his Coalville RFC fellow players, to watch the game in the only place: a pub, back home. Imagine my surprise, then, when he and his friends walked in with just 15 minutes to kick-off. But the biggest surprise was that the whole village, or so it seemed, was in on the secret. And even though the Boys lost that game, the most wonderful time was had by all, not least by the three Anglos who also received a proper Welsh open-arms welcome. I really, REALLY, must get back there soon.”
“As it's always been, the place to be on the weekend in maesteg. Enjoy your nights downstairs with the band or upstairs with the dj. Always good acts on in the bird. Not forgetting if you like it a bit quieter up the back they even have a pool table and cocktail bar serving it shaken or stirred.”
“Always a warm freindly atmostphere... Excellent staff ....on fridays theres a karaoke disco nice atmostphere with and excellent sound system... a good mixture of people from couples to party groups etc.. Friday's karaoke starts from 8pm till 12... there are bands on most Saturdays... if needed take a vist and look at the band notice board and also look for what bargain booze drinks they have for that week”

“Just had a wake at the plough and harrow for my father in law. Incredible service, incredible buffet. Lovely staff. I would recommend to any body. THANKYOU.”
“There’s something quietly impressive about The Fendrod. It doesn’t scream for attention; it just delivers from the first welcome to the last bite. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel at ease, like someone designed it with actual humans in mind. Service: The team at The Fendrod is sharp. Service is quick without feeling rushed, attentive without hovering, and friendly without fake cheer. You get the sense that the staff actually enjoy working together, which is rare enough to deserve applause. Every question we asked about the menu was met with knowledge and enthusiasm — not just memorized lines. Food Taste & Quality: This is where The Fendrod really shines. The flavors are full and balanced, like the chef actually cares about seasoning — a miracle in itself. The dishes come out looking beautiful but not pretentious, and everything tastes fresh and deliberate. The steak was cooked exactly as ordered, the sauces had real depth, and the desserts? Let’s just say you’ll need to pretend you’re sharing. The ingredients are clearly top-shelf, and it shows in the way everything feels both indulgent and clean. Team Morale: It’s obvious there’s good chemistry here. You can hear it in the laughter coming from the kitchen and see it in the way servers help each other out. Nobody looks burnt out or miserable — which, let’s be honest, makes the food taste even better. Atmosphere: Warm lighting, spacious layout, and that comfortable buzz of conversation that makes a place feel alive without being noisy. The décor balances modern touches with classic coziness, making it perfect for both casual lunches and dressed-up dinners. You can tell thought went into every detail — from the seating to the playlist. Also furthermore we came in very late on the 10th of November as a big table of 8 and there was no moody ness the staff member at the bar was more than happy to move two tables together for us so we could all sit together Special mention to the chefs Tony and sam We were told the chefs were on 90 hours of working this week and the food was outstanding not an issue what so ever all the food was very tasty all at a good temperature and 8 full plates were brought to the table and 8 empty plates left And an extra special shoutout to the manager BETH Always makes sure my id is checked as I do look young for my age and she came in once on her day off to make sure everything was running smoothly Overall The Fendrod is one of those rare finds that gets everything right — great service, excellent food, and a team that clearly takes pride in what they do. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to linger a little longer and come back a little sooner. Solid 10/10, and well worth the visit.”
“Haven't been here in years. Popped in for lunch Friday afternoon and I was really impressed with the quality of the food! Fair prices with the amount of food you get. The Mussels were lovely, big portion. So was the pie / burgers. I will definitely be back to try other dishes.”

I would highly recommend the griffin to anyone”
“One of the best experiences iv had in a pub in a long time. This place is crazy. I can't wait to go back”
“We went there twice. Great value for money. Staff was very attentive and didn't have to wait long for our food. I would definitely recommend.”
“We were warmly greeted by the landlady and placed our food and drinks order. The food arrived quickly and was excellent ( cowboy burgers and lasagne). The portions were generous and the food well presented. The waitress checked on us mid way through our meal. All the staff were attentive and friendly. We would thoroughly recommend this pub to anybody looking for pub food in a warm and friendly atmosphere.”
“My Dad's 81st Birthday. I let them know in advance that he has many health conditions including dementia. We were treated with total kindness, which we are very grateful for. Food was very tasty and served in good time. Staff were fab, even putting a candle in Dad's dessert and singing happy birthday.”
“Warm welcome, sat down pretty quick and with plenty of info on how to order direct from the table with the QR code. Massive and delicious carvery. Very generous with the meats which is a big win for me.”
“From the outside it looks like a run down old restaurant but you should never judge a book by its cover. Once you enter it is like stepping into a whole new world. Great food with average but filling portions, great desserts and excellent value for money. The interior was not the best pub design I have ever seen, but it does the job of creating a cosy, relaxing atmosphere and aesthetic, and is clean. For both courses, we were served pretty quickly, I get that we weren't there at a busy time but we have experienced longer waits in other pubs at similar levels of business. There were indoor and outdoor play areas to keep kids busy while they wait for their food, and monitors showing the play area in the main pub for parents to monitor their kids. One of the best features of this pub is that it is situated right next to a lake, providing stunning views from the back windows and outdoor tables. A walk around the lake is accessible directly from the pub. Even though we weren't staying at the Premier Inn, I will mention it's extremely convenient for its guests as it's right next door and even shares a car park. Though the pub is great as it is, I have a few ideas for how it could improve and become even better. First it could do with a baby change separate to the accessible toilet, as there seemed to be a constant stream of families using it to change their children, which would make it difficult for wheelchair users. Also, the tables could be further apart, we found we struggled to get out at times.”
“I am so sad to find this business is closing, I thoroughly enjoyed my monthly subscription and I will sorely miss its arrival each month”
“Brilliant local pub, myself and my Mrs we're given a great welcome on new years day”
