    Shroggs Park

    ★★★★☆ 4.3
    Open

“A HIDDEN GEM! I use the park regularly for walking the dogs or taking the kids to play football and use the playground equipment. The park is home to a lovely woodland walk that provides great opportunities for nature photography. For the runners out there, the Parkrun is an absolutely fantastic event which takes place every Saturday morning attracting runners from far and wide. Enjoy orienteering? Well thanks to the East Pennine Orienteering Club, the park now has 3 virtual orienteering courses which can be accessed using the MapRun app on your mobile device. Various events held throughout the year such as the recent Halloween Trail which my family thoroughly enjoyed. The park has an active Friends of Group and a number of improvement works have already taken place following public consultation events and the formation of a development group made up of local services in Calderdale and North Halifax. These improvements include the restoration of the monument/fountain feature, resurfacing of the main paths within the park, a number of robust picnic benches being put in, larger waste bins, a volunteer bin with a code locked compartment which holds litter picking equipment for community volunteers to access. Overall I'd highly recommend a visit. It doesn't have the reputation of some of the better known parks in Calderdale but Shroggs really is a lovely little place, steeped in history and the perfect outdoor location to enjoy time with the family, or even some wind down time on your own with a stroll as I often do myself. My one real issue is down to a minority of irresponsible dog owners resulting in a ridiculous amount of dog muck which either myself or another parent has to remove from the main football pitch on a Sunday morning so the kids can enjoy their matches without the risk of sliding in it. Usually enough to fill a carrier bag.”

“Been struggling to find a dentist for such a long time. As someone who gets very nervous at the dentist after previous bad experiences I was dreading coming for a check up, but was made to feel at ease by Karen and Usma on arrival who were both super friendly and welcoming (also very much appreciated the reminder call from Karen the day before). The check up was thorough and quick with everything explained (thanks Ehmen!), couldn’t fault a thing.”

“We recently celebrated my sister’s baby shower at Gomersal Park Hotel, and everything was absolutely perfect from start to finish! The team went above and beyond to make sure every detail was just right — the room was set out how we wanted it -ready to decorate, the food was delicious, and the service was so friendly and attentive throughout the day. Nothing was too much trouble, and the staff made us all feel so welcome. It was such a relaxed and joyful atmosphere, and my sister was over the moon with how beautifully everything came together. A huge thank you to everyone at Gomersal Park Hotel and Imogen especially for helping us create such special memories. I’d highly recommend this venue for any celebration — we’ll definitely be returning!”

Hit cocktail hour (5pm) by chance and activated beefeater card for 50% off our food, so brilliant value. Taxi booked from hotel reception came exactly on time. “This park is a wonderful place for day visit and have a peaceful time with family. It has 2 lakes, one is small. Lots of ducks and fish roaming around in the lake. It has woodland and walking track. There are two small hills to climb up and see the whole city from there. It is very quiet, gives tranquillity when walking. Dog friendly. Seen many sign of BBQ though official notice hanging not to do so. Altogether had a wonderful afternoon and stayed till sunset. Enjoyed thoroughly. Definitely recommend. Parking available in the street next to the GP. In park parking closed, don't know why. No toilet facilities.”

“Admittedly I hadn't been to Shibden Park in about 30 years, so it was nice to call in here for breakfast on our bank holiday weekend visit to my homeland. My partner had the large breakfast, which for the price was excellent. Lovely hashbrown! My teen daughter had the medium and I had a bagel and creme cheese. We have cappuccinos and an English tea. Plenty of seating outside and in, dog friendly both inside and out too. I am pleased I got to experience the cafe and park again in a less busy climate. Beautiful place full of memories ✨️”

Slightly disappointed with the kids meal though. Was expensive for what you get as the chicken nuggets were processed and not proper fillets. Accept card payments. Pay first system. HMC Approved.”

“This hotel is five star plus everything about the hotel is great, the decor is bright cheerfull warm and welcoming. The public areas are spacious super clean and comfortable you can relax in stylish modern surroundings. My only concern as a fist time visitor to bradford on route to another destination was the lack of knowledge of a member of staff to help me with answes to my questions about how to get to the local interchange train station and bus depot all of which apparently are very close by this was on check in teatime on the opposite scale of knowledge at breakfast another member of staff told me everything I needed to know so I think if these amenities are near to the hotel the staff should be able to advise guests on details or at least ask some one else to help maybe make a list to keep on reception of guest questions how to get to train station etc bus depot even bus stops sounds simple but as a guest I did not know I ended up getting a taxi which was maybe an expense I did not need”
