“We visited LaSalute just after the new owners taken over. I had been before and found it lovely. I was pleased to see it had been renovated to a high standard. I had the mushroom bruschetta and mushroom pasta done in a tomato pasta sauce My son had the calamari followed by chicken in white wine sauce. We both had a lovely meal and will be back to samle a desert next time as was stuffed. Good luck to the new owners, we will definitely be back”
“Great place to sit and enjoy some top quality pizza in the sun. Not the best pizza I've had in Edinburgh but definitely in the top 3. Gets difficult to choose at that high level. The young lass who served us was great and very friendly. Overall I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a proper pizza. Great for a lunch with friend, birthday or even a special occasion. I'll definitely be back.”
“Excellent pizza at this new local spot (replacing the much missed Maradona). Delicious olives to start - in a very generous portion - followed by really good pizza. Friendly casual service with lots of Italian chatter to add atmosphere! An added bonus is that seats outside capture the last sun in the evening... Bliss.”
“Great Pizza in the heart of Edinburgh. We were sceptical at first if we can get a good Italian pizza in the north of GB. But it was sooo damn good. If you like good Italian pizza try this one!”
“Lovely pre theatre dinner for 6. All food on the table at the same time and very tasty. Friendly staff looking forward to going back”
“Food was excellent and very well priced. Place is busy! Went on a Monday evening and was lucky to get a table. Very loud inside. The decor could maybe do with an update. Would recommend booking!”
“Delicious linguine with pistachio pesto pancetta and proper cappuccino. Can taste the quality incidents and pasta was al dante. Friendly people. Quick service. Would be back again soon.”
“Exactly what you want in a pizza place, well priced food/drink and excellent service. The new owner went out of his way to make sure we both had a great meal. We will definitely be back.”
“Excellent Pizza. We collected, but can’t wait to come in to the restaurant and try more of the menu. Really friendly staff and the effort put into the food clearly shows. 10/10!”
“We stopped for brunch at this great cafe when walking back from Murrayfield. Our group of four received a really warm welcome and attentive table service from lovely friendly staff. The full Scottish breakfast was amazing - two of everything, tasted delicious, with a massive pile of buttered toast, and all beautifully presented. What a discovery, we will definitely return!”
“Took my family for dinner. Food was great quality and quantity. Staff friendly and helpful. Took to the bar after which had the football on. Mixed age groups, all welcomed and a cosy fire.”
“Real pizza oven and quality ingredients. Friendly Italian owner and makes the best pizza in Edinburgh. Don't order Dominos when this is here!”
“Best pasta I've eaten outside of Italy without a doubt. Very fresh, the sauce was rich and meaty but didn't overpower the dish. Trust me if you love Italian food and are a pasta lover... you'll be happy you ordered from here. I'll definitely be ordering again.”
“We ate here on a Sunday night (couldn’t get a reservation for Saturday and we saw a lot of people without reservations turned away on Sunday) and it was great. The staff are friendly and the food excellent and generous portions. Both food and drink are reasonably priced. The only slight downside is that they had all the windows open and where we were sitting there was a chilly draught.”
“Large selection of reasonably priced polish foods. The staff is always polite. The meat counter is great.”
“Really good pizza and so many vegan options! We recommend the vegan parmigiana!”
“Great Neapolitan pizza, menu with pizza rossa and bianca, house recommended pizzas, and specials on the day. Simple selecting of popular beers and red/white house wine. Drinks and pizzas arrived in minutes, great flavours on amazing bases. Would certainly visit again, looks good for two but also larger groups.”
“Super good dinner! We got the bruschetta for an appetizer which came out to us about 30 seconds after ordering it, which was great because we were starving! We ordered a pizza, forget which one exactly, but it was delicious!! Great environment, love the kitchen is right out front, makes it really fun!”
“Authentic Neapolitan pizza place in the heart of Leith (Edinburgh). Really good choice of sides and appetizers. Quality ingredients and scrumptious Neapolitan pizzas. A must for any pizza lover.”
“Came back to this busy restaurant during the Fringe and we were welcomed warmly and found a table for the three of us. Excellent, attentive service. Started out with olives and garlic bread and then on to some wonderful mains. On the pricey side, but this is central Edinburgh and the dishes were overflowing with value. I really enjoyed the Chicken Milanese. We were not rushed out and found time for coffee. Warmly recommend this restaurant. We will be back.”
“Really nice place. Fast and friendly service, the polpette were nice, the lasagne was excellent. I love the way my affogato was served.”
“First visit but will be the first of many to come. Had the 2 course lunch menu, excellent pate served with quality toasted bread and breadcrumbed veal with a spinach and cream sauce, followed by tiramisu from the a la carte menu which was incredibly good. Great service from "Meemo " the lone waiter.”
“We became obsessed with Mamma Roma and we would gladly come back. We had an earlier dinner after getting to Edinburg, so there was plenty of seating. However, I would highly recommend booking a table if you plan to eat at a normal time. We started with the focaccia bufalo e pomodorini and we were immediately surprised by the quality and taste, which set the tone for the rest of the dinner. I'm not sure how focaccia can be so delicious, but trust me. For entrees we got a mix of filled pastas, but the ravioli and lasagna were absolutely amazing. I highly recommend the ravioli caprino e peperoni! We almost came back a second time the same week, but figured we should try other places while we are traveling.”
“Wow! What an amazing restaurant. Food was fantastic, portion was great and plenty of prawns in the prawn pasta! The bottle of wine we wanted was sold out, but our fantastic waiter recommended us a different bottle at the same price. Staff were fantastic, would love to come back here.”
“Great burgers, nice and filling, fantastic chips, a little on the expensive side but thats to be expected and its fair, great spot if your struggling to decide. 100% vegan place”
“Great value and a favourite with the kids. Service always very friendly and efficient. Updated review. Back for another birthday. Monday night and place was buzzing which speaks volumes. Fantastic service, great food and great value. Upgraded from a few 4 stars to 5 stars across the board. Consistency like this deserves nothing less. These guys probably had a super busy weekend so to deliver this on a busy Monday is impressive”
“December 2024: I visited here with a party of six for an evening meal. First impressions of the restaurant from outside wasn't anything special; however, when inside, the venue really shines. Lovely restaurant with plenty of seating and a great atmosphere. There was a real buzz about the place from both staff and other customers. Tables are well spaced out and it was lovely and welcoming. Service was great - not too quick, not too slow. Staff friendly, attentive and very polite. Food was super tasty. Highly recommend the Penne Carnegie. Banoffee ice cream sundae is also worth having if you have any room left! Dishes are reasonably priced, roughly worked out at £25 pp for 2 courses and soft drinks. Overall, highly recommend a visit here if in the area and we will likely be back.”
“We come to Gullane every year for the Scottish Open Golf, from our home in The Lakes, and always look forward to a return visit to The Main Course and see the familiar friendly faces of the wonderful staff...and of course, the food. The quality is always top notch, the potions perfectly sized and the flavour delivery exceptional. In my photos, you'll see our shared starters....lots of crispy calamari and to balance that, perfect bruschetta. We then had the calzone pizza and the knock out beef ravioli in a sage sauce. A request for a simple side garden salad, not on the menu, was no problem at all. Negroni cocktails kicked things off, and a bottle of Soave Superiore Classico for under £30 (a great price for this) was enjoyed throughout the meal, ending with their lovely tiramisu. Well done to all the chefs, staff and the owners at The Main Course. You have a great place. Many thanks for looking after us. See you next time.”
“What a fantastic experience at this pizza restaurant! They serve authentic Italian pizza cooked in a wood-fired oven, giving it a unique and distinctive flavor. The pizza is incredibly delicious, and the ingredients are fresh and of high quality. It's clear that the chefs work with high professionalism, and the pizza is prepared with utmost care.”
“One of my favourite restaurants around Edinburgh. Their food is delicious and the service is friendly. We had pizza, pasta and salads. 10/10!”
