    The Social

    ★★★★☆ 4.2
    Closed

“Went to the social for our work Christmas lunch. Was worried about figuring out the bill fairly for 10 people but Kayleigh was an absolute star making this as seamless as possible and the easiest night out I have ever had. When one of our group was going to be much later, she made sure to wrap their food in tinfoil to make sure it stayed warm. Kayleigh was incredibly attentive throughout our afternoon at the social, checking in regularly to make sure we had everything we need despite it being incredibly busy, even chasing up our drinks when they took a while to come. She offered a friendly face that made nothing seem a hassle (even when we knew we were being a hassle at points!) and had a good laugh with our group. It made such a difference to our work Christmas lunch out having someone as approachable and kind as Kayleigh serving us.”

“Was in Glasgow with some friends and stumbled on this cracking bar. We were only going in for one beer but had such a good time we stayed all night. The atmosphere was really welcoming, a great crowd and even better staff. The beer was flowing and so easy the chat. We laughed and joked and sang our hearts out. Look forward to seeing Julie and her boys again next time we are in town. Thanks again, you really made our night”

    Bar Soba

    ★★★★☆ 4.1
    Closed

“I went to Bar Soba alone, to dine after a concert in Oran Mor, even though I appeared without booking they accommodated. The service was exemplary, they didn't hover and interject they just seemed a lot more intuitive; they came when things were finished or when I looked for assistance. I had prawn dumplings and chicken saté, without exaggeration these were the best of either I've EVER had! The dumplings were lightly fried and had a sumptuous filling. The saté tasted chargrilled but juicy with a slight topping of roasted peanuts and the sauce was glossy and rich. I had the chicken katsu for main, and I'll be damned: in 15 years of dining UK wide I've not had a combination of just enough rice to chicken ratio, which is rare (normally cheaper/shoddy places bulk on rice). The katsu it's self was exceptionally crispy whilst being juicy and visually pleasing! Just excellent food, executed exceptionally. I asked for water to start (normally this elicits a 'eurgh' and rolled eyes) and it was nice, whilst I browsed the drink menu. I had an old fashioned, a chocolate orange coffee martini and a Russian sailor. All were made to be aesthetically and olfactory pleasing! The old fashioned was brilliant, a must! Often people forget to spritz with citrus zest to tie in the bouquet but it was all there! The martini was decadent but not overpowering and the Russian sailor was new to me... Really creamy but balanced. I spent over 3 hours there, wasn't rushed, was expertly taken care of, the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. The shocker? The bill. I had guesstimated it to be double what I paid. I dine out alone often (especially due to work/commitments) and I find you're normally neglected, it's assumed you'll be a low yield as for purchase and I'd assume tip. It was the opposite in Bar Soba, my service was as great as everyone around me, and even though I was the last person there they never once even instigated me leaving with "would you like the cheque?". I'll definitely be back, new Asian favourite with a killer drinks menu! I really appreciated the service, food, drink and finesse of it all. Seriously, forget the other places in Byres Road, go here even if it's for finger food and a drink.”

“We popped in for food around 6 o'clock. The place was jumping. Waited 10mins for a table ( we didn't mind) food was great and came quite quickly. The service from the girl on the till was amazing, she was super friendly and helpful. She was under pressure trying to serve and clean tables etc however this didn't affect the customer service or smile on her face. Wish I had caught her name as she's an asset to your business date of visit 17/3 around 6pm”

“I have been a few times and have always enjoyed the food. On Monday 29th September myself along with another 3 family members arrived at around 5.30pm without pre booking. It became busy with small to large groups. They appeared to be short staffed but I have to say to the 2 male staff members that attended to everyone where excellent. Really professional and very friendly. They were rushed off their feet and didn’t stop for a second but that didn’t affect their professionalism and service to every table.”

“Gorgeous city centre venue for a late night bite to eat Food was delicious. We both ordered burgers and they absolutely did not disappoint! These things were huge. And the patties so juicy Being a busy Friday night the venue was packed (I'd estimate it at 90% capacity) but the staff were on the ball. Service was super friendly, quick and efficient The colourful umbrella ceiling is beautiful. The interior shelves are filled with a host of quirky, Italian collectables (for lack of a better word!) £37 for the two of us having burgers and fries with a side of onion rings”

    La Bonne Auberge

    ★★★★☆ 4.1

“The food is usually very high quality, especially for the reasonable prices. The only thing that could be better is the service for drinks. I was there yesterday having a pre-theatre meal and was waiting too long for a drink for the main meal. I had to go to the bar and order it, it was taking that long. Other than this, everything else was the usual standards this place has - very good. The food was quality, the value of price is very good, the menu is authentic & the staff are very friendly. The only other critical feedback is maybe they are too quick with firing meals at customers. I always have to ask them to hold fire with desert for an extra 5 minutes because of how quick they get you your starter, main and desert. A little more time inbetween would be welcoming to allow the previous dish to properly digest. These are small critiques, but the overall bigger picture for me is this restaurant is very decent & is a very good spot in the city centre.”

Haven't been in the bar for years - only went because HAGGIS NEEPS'N FATTIES were playing. Had a great night, bar was good had a great atmosphere. Country guy was out of place and following HAGGIS was a hard act for anyone to follow, kinda felt sorry for him, in the right setting he would have done a lot better, everyone I spoke to seemed to think he was just a filler in for the band.”
