I usually go for there early bird special, where they offer 8oz, 16oz, and 32oz steaks at very reasonable prices for such high-quality cuts. “Wow, what a place! First, the decor: Tins of chopped tomato line the shelves - more varieties of chopped tomato than I knew existed - and the walls are adorned with both local artwork and stunning relics from the restaurants Marco’s father had owned in Italy. A highlight was a painted plate, depicting Marco’s father and mother as a chef and what can only be described as a seductress (neither depiction accurate, according to Marco) under the watchful eye of Il Passatore - a roguish Italian highwayman and Robin Hood figure. Second, the welcome: Marco is a delightful man. He came and chatted to us. He told us about Il Passatore. He brought us appetisers made with friarelli, a Neapolitan broccoli so nice my colleague left with a jar! He gave us a delicious and very boozy alpine digestif as we left. He is an excellent host and restaurateur! Third, the food: I had a puttanesca pizza - divine. Homemade chilli sauce to dip the crusts - divine. Friarelli and red pesto appetiser - divine. My colleague had a calzone the size of three-year-old. We ate like kings. I cannot recommend a meal at Marco’s enough. I was in Hebden Bridge for only one week. I simply popped in on my lunch break, and was treated to a meal I will remember for years. I left with a Marco’s Cafe T-shirt - the design a collaboration between his daughter’s artwork and Marco’s own AI skills - which I will wear fondly for a long time. Thank you Marco!”

“First visit to this large restaurant on Whitehall Road; at the foot of that tower that’s had so many problems with the cladding. Now scaffolding free, it made me notice this place afresh. Inside the restaurant is bright and airy, white walls and marble floors. There’s a nice vibe in here of an evening. Chill yet traditional. You sense the meal will be good. Nice big menu with lots of choice. Pizza, pasta and steak. Also fish. Opted for the venison wellington; I love venison and it sounded like a dish that would be rich and hearty. Not wrong, a beautiful (and big) portion of perfectly pink venison in a light and flaky crust. Wow, could eat that all day. So very rich with a hearty sauce, turnip to the side. I wish more places would use game. The chef here clearly knows his meat. Excellent. The steak must be fantastic. Reasonably priced as well. The beer was Moretti; as it should be when it isn’t Peroni. Definitely recommend giving this place a try next time you’re in town. They do specials too, so a chance at finding something unexpected and intriguing on the menu. Always welcome. Two paws up. Well done.”

“We visited for the first time this weekend. The food was delicious and great portion sizes. I had the goats cheese and my wife had garlic mushrooms. They were fantastic. I then had the chicken on skewers with rice and bbq sauce andmy wife had the steak. Great portion sizes and couldnt finish it all. Nice atmosphere with attentive and welcoming staff. We will be back the next time we are in York. Highly recommended, give it a try you will not be disappointed.”

“Always been a fan of the Turkish/Greek sort of grills and what a little gem this place is in the middle of, out of all places, Pontefract (no offense to anyone from Pontefract). It's a pretty cosy establishment, about 26 covers max, but any place of that size and a focused menu set, typically means they can focus on the quality of the dishes, and boy, tonight's meal was a joy. For anyone going for the first time, I'd definitely recommend the mixed grill as it has a full range of lamb kebab, lamb chop, adana (which btw was awesome, right lamb mince consistency with the delicate balance of herbs and spices), chicken kebab and chicken wing. Rice was flavourful and the salad refreshing with the appropriate amount of dressing. Other half has the chicken Marmanis, which was indeed tasty, white wine sauce with the mushrooms just right without being too salty or sharp. Only a slight blip was a tough tendon in her piece of chicken - something that can be easily corrected I'm sure. Baklava for dessert is home made rather than shop bought so that's a massive positive for me. All washed down with a Turkish apple tea to cleanse the pallette to end a surprising but delightful evening meal. Service was excellent and attentive, the team there are super friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be back and is an establishment we will bring friends and family to. A must visit. 5*. If the team are reading this? teşekkür ederim”

“Oh, wow. Off the back of a FB recommendation by Richard Tree, we decided to treat my father and also my brothers visiting friend from the US to a nice pub lunch at the Airedale Heifer, Mirfield - I rang ahead to check if we could get a table for half two. As it happened, the doors opened shortly before then and Ashley, the brand new landlady, was on her own, looking after the venue which she had only just taken on board, running the place. She warmly welcomed us, gave us a background to her taking on the venue and then took to the kitchen to cook a monster order we gave her. Me and Paul had the Mega Meat Platter, Carol had the Buttermilk Chicken Burger and Caroline had the five starter dishes deal - a lot of food for the lot of us with any excess heading to dads small plate to nibble at. While the Platters were all incredible, and Carol gave the chicken burger a solid thumbs up, the standout for us was the Fried Cauliflower Wings with Ginger and Soy Sauce - truly moreish and I couldn’t stop picking at them, even when the stunning meats had filled me up (the chicken was a highlight, utterly buttery). The Airedale is a great venue with a cracking bar, a marvellous menu and a very warm welcome: highly, highly recommended.”
