“We booked accommodation at Ploughcroft Cottage on the recommendation of our son and daughter-in-law. They had stayed earlier in the year, and were incredibly impressed with both the establishment and the owners. Having now stayed there ourselves, it's easy to see why. The cottage is warm and welcoming. Karen & George greeted us with tea and biscuits (including Gluten Free for my wife who is Coeliac), and we had a lovely chat with them both.They are great company. Our room was very comfortably furnished, with a large selection of hot drinks, biscuits and chocolates. Everything was finished to an exceptionally high standard, and the bed was both large and comfy. The en-suite bathroom had a great selection of toiletries, all great quality and was also finished beautifully. This was more luxury hotel standard, than simple B&B. Breakfast was both large and of exceptional quality - fresh fruit salad and juices, nice cereals, followed by an amazing full-English (full-Yorkshire?). Everything on the plate was clearly of excellent quality, and absolutely delicious. Having eaten everything which was available, I found myself unable to eat anything further for the rest of the day! There are great views from the cottage over Halifax, and the nearby pub/restaurant is lovely. Both are walkable, although you'd need to be pretty fit to do so. Needless to say I used the car. :) The stay represented excellent value for money. We'll definitely be back again, and shall look forward to further chats with Karen & George, a really lovely couple who have done their utmost to ensure a perfect stay.”

“What a find! Had a wonderful long weekend in studio 1. So peaceful and beautiful views. Well equipped with everything you could need and a very comfortable bed! Brilliant location for exploring the area and some good walks right from the front door. Excellent communication with Heather, the owner. Highly recommend.”

“Placed an order for collection Friday evening, I was expecting there to be a big wait as it’s a popular time, however food was ready to collect in under 20 minutes. Got home with the food and it was all piping hot, tasted amazing (the mixed kebab on naan is beautiful). Everything tasted fresh, seasoned and a very fair portion size for the price.”

“Lovely place to stay! Really clean and comfortable with all the things you would need for a stay- really well equipped kitchen. Lovely basket of treats on arrival welcomed you to the cottage. The hot tub was fab and a a great way to unwind after a walk around Howard Castle! The location is great- we are non drivers so it was just a short Uber ride from York station. There was also a village centre around 10mins walk away where you’ll find two nice pubs and a mini Tesco. Would definitely recommend!”

“Had a pizza the other day, better than big brands. Staff and owner are very courteous and sincere. Prices are reasonable, there are cheaper in town but not necessary nicer in taste or better attitude!”

The set menu meals are really good value for money, excellent prawn toast, nice Chinese chips and the fried rice is perfect.. the Beef in black bean sauce is a favourite.”

“Gorgeous little cafe, can’t believe we’ve never been before! Came for lunch, service was good, chatted to the owner too who was lovely. Only gripe was a fairly young server kept coming to take some of our party’s empty plates away while others were still eating. We asked them to come back the first time for when we were all finished, but they came back within a minute and started grabbing plates off the table. Not a huge deal but just a note to help improve staff training hopefully.”
