The venue has alot of atmosphere and is filled with alot of character and charm. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, but don't take my word for it...ask Archie...the local resident cat.”

“Steve, Val & Indie the dog spent 2 nights at Saughall Mill cottage. Jane & Richard are lovely hosts & the cottage is a special haven. The welcome basket is amazing & they even provided a bottle of wine & beer in the fridge. They've renovated the cottage to a very high standard & the gardens are beautiful & we made use of the fire pit & swinging garden seat in the evening. Thanks again to Jayne & Richard for a special stay & we'll be back again very soon.”

“I stayed at Fernlea Cottage B&B during a training week in Tattenhall, Cheshire. Everything about Fernlea Cottage is wonderful. The bed was very comfortable, the room was cosy and included everything I needed, and the bathroom was clean and very functional - lovely hot water. The breakfasts were delicious and I was asked everyday what I would like for the following day. Fresh eggs and delicious bacon. Superb service and very friendly and welcoming owners. Thank you SO much.”

“Nice (mostly) self-service farm shop with super high quality, almost exclusively organic food and dairy. There was a lady working there who I suppose could help with anything if you needed it, she was very friendly and helpful. Raw milk was excellent as was the ice cream, they also do eggs, beef, lamb, soap, loads of other dairy and so on. Very well priced for organic and raw produce.”

“Lovely clean house, and decent sized garden, and perfect for visiting the zoo, blue planet quarium and the Ice Cream which has much more than ice cream to keep little ones busy. Chris, the owner, was very attentive and checked in several times, although not excessively, to ensure we had all we need. If in need of food can fully recommend the Indian at the end of the road and there is also a spar for any supplies. We will be back.”

“As soon as you arrive at Ashcroft cottage you just know your dog is going to love staying there. The photos on the website are exactly what it says on the tin. The grounds to the house are massive and there are 5 acres of land with woods for walking. Cathy & her husband are very friendly approachable people who are genuinely interested in your dog’s wellbeing. We were texted regularly while on holiday with updates as to how our dog was enjoying his holiday! We have struggled to find somewhere suitable that gives the love & affection that our dog deserves and the garden big enough for him to play in. Ashcroft Cottage is in a league of it's own....don’t waste your time shopping around your dog is in safe hands here.”

“Sept 2025 - Great location, so close to everything. Wonderful views over the harbour and always something happening outside. Apartment had good amenities (just a hairdryer missing). The entrance not the best but once past that, the apartment was really comfortable. Would definitely recommend it.”

“Was passing through and saw this was open. I asked for haddock and chips as I wanted to try the fish and chips, the fish was really good, the batter soft and not too oily, the haddock was chunky and one of the best fish I have tasted. The chips were soft, and even after getting home, the fish and chips tasted really nice. The serving couple was very polite and served the food really quickly. It is definitely highly recommended. The price for a large fish and small chips was less than £9.”
