“Great for showing sports on multiple screens and a game of "toad in the hole". Very friendly atmosphere..”
“First time in there last THU for the open decks night and had a really good time. Very friendly people and staff, great service and brilliant atmosphere. Thanks for a great night out.”
“I think this must be fairly new as I have no recollection of this pub / restaurant. Thomas Paine has strong local connections, unlike Casta and Madge. He helped inspire the American revolutionary war and almost lost his head in the French one. Silly so and so. I had another Harvey's Sussex best bitter. One of three real ales on my visit. Very good. Up steep stairs finds a roof terrace. Must be lovely on a warm sunny day / evening. Free wifi.”
“Amazing pub, great beer garden, lovely stuff, and the food was to die for! We really enjoyed our first visit 6 pub, and we defo will be back! Home made food and dog friendly.”
“A lovely pub with friendly, attentive staff. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Nice and cosy seating areas didn't feel overlooked. Good atmosphere. Would definitely recommend a visit.”
“The best place BY FAR for drinks and snacks at the station. Great selection of cakes, sandwiches, drinks (including alcohol) Eat/drink in the place, or tske aeay. Real tea.”
“This is a wonderful little gem of a cafe which can easily be missed along the hustle and bustle of Lewes Road. I come in and find the atmosphere inviting and very calm. Definitely a great Ma & Pa joint with plenty of friendly locals (and good food!). Cozy chairs by big windows are a great place to be for some brunch or a morning coffee. Drop by and give it a try!”
“Tiago and Anna do a great job here. Community Skratch Music appreciates the opportunity every year to use the pub as the venue. Top marks”
“The Gladdy is back !!! After the long awaited dismissal of the last manager, ( what a nobber !!) (who definitely didn't understand how to run this bastion of old school brighton pubs ) it is now under new management and what a breath of fresh air !! this place is banging once more. Great staff, regular gigs, music and real punters !! And now open past 9:00pm !! One of the best pubs in Brighton !! Always great gigs. See ya there !!! P.s. Don't vote tory, Not my king x”
“Had lunch here with some friends. Large popular pub and not ruined by a makeover. The food was very good and reasonably priced. They have special offers depending on the day of the week. The Harvey's beer was in good condition. It was a Tuesday and fairly quiet. I understand it gets busy in the evenings and at weekends. There is a large outdoor seating area if you like that sort of thing. Will definitely go back when next in Lewes.”
“Feels like a proper English country inn, with great atmosphere and friendly staff. There's a function room to hire (I was there for a party) and the buffet was great. I'd be tempted to go try the rooms and the main restaurant sometime.”
“We stopped off for food at Sunday lunchtime and I cannot recommend the roast dinner enough! One of the best I have ever had . They catered to my dietary requirements (gluten free) and served delicious food . The service was wonderful and staff was very friendly . I would come back again”
“Casta amd Madge found yet another CAMRA Good Beer Guide regular. Four real ales and a real cider. Had my first ever beer from Hand Brew ( Canterbury, Kent.) . Very good. A lovely front room ( couple of tv's) and a surprisingly large beer garden. Upstairs for another room with darts, pool, TV's etc. Serves food. Close to railway ststion.”
“We were welcomed by the staff warmly, shown to a table and our drinks arrived promptly. The food was very good and very well presented. Two had the steak pie, delicious, two friends had the Bok Burger which looked fab and tasted great too! Our other friend had Thyme chicken breast, tender and tasty. We will definitely be back for more! Thank you all at The Barley Mow”
“Definitely a go to. A nice atmosphere and well decorated making it feel homely. Staff are brilliant and have a cracking sense of humour a great place to have a drink and a laugh. Karaoke on a Saturday which is great always a fun night! Quiz on a Sunday a great way to end the week. Will always return ☺️”
“I organised a lunch for 20 people in the private dining room and had a wonderful experience. The staff were brilliant, proactive and quick to response, helping me from the very start with all the logistics and organising. On the day, they styled the room beautifully, service was fantastic and food was amazing. Really tasty seasonal ingredients and great value. All of my guests were so impressed. Thank you to the team, especially Meghan, for all their help!”
“I live 1 minute down the road from curry cottage yet didn’t know about it and I am so annoyed I didn’t find about about it sooner because the food is amazing!! Really well priced curry’s for how amazing they are! If you live near you it’s worth picking up the food as it is cooked so quickly and they give you a free beer or soft drink if you pick up. Couldn’t recommend it more”
“Very enjoyable experience, food & drinks was lovely with the view and water adding a beautiful dynamic to the old school vibe of the building. Definitely recommend a visit!”
“Popped in for a quick pint. Very friendly welcome and a good pint. Comfortable surroundings with a mixture of tables and chairs and comfortable sofas. This seems to be a lively pub judging by the posters for bands and various events. There's also a garden for a sunny day.”
“Genuinely great kebab. Delicious, generous, never less than excellent.”
