“Made a last minute reservation for 5pm on New Year's Eve. For visit since it reopened as restaurant within The Red Lion. Lively deco , very clean , excellent welcome. Great menu with interesting Indian dishes as well as British and Italian food. We just had a starter and main course with side dishes and it was delicious. Full of delicate spices and not too hot , just right. A thoroughly delightful meal. The staff were attentive but not overbearing and served each dish with a broad smile , making us feel almost at home. The restaurant was fully booked from 7pm but they let us finish our drinks in the bar/ restaurant area up until we left at 7pm. What seemed like a boringly quite evening turned out to be just what we wanted. A return , with friends will be booked very soon. Highly recommended.”

“We had our wedding day here, and It is the best venue with the most incredible staff. Molly and Klaudia in the events team while helping plan were always there for us and couldn't of done anything more, making everything as stress free and easy as humanly possible, all while being so kind! On the day Mike and Amy made sure everything went to plan and were so wonderful to us and our guests, and Wayne the evening DJ was amazing too. We couldn't recommend a better more accommodating venue, and the rooms that we and some of the guests stayed in were perfect. Thank you so much to the whole team at the bear!”

“Absolutely stunning meal! I am fussy with my steak buy owner explained how he would cook it and it was the tastiest ,nicest steak ive had. Cauliflower wings to stary which again were full of flavour. Hot ,homemade chips - can't fault it! Definitely reccomend and cant wait to return again.”

“Walked past here randomly and the gyros looked good so decided to go in, was late on a Monday so nice and quiet but was more than happy with what we got served, all the meat was flavoursome and cooked to perfection- only £37 for this. I’m a big eater but couldn’t even finish 10/10”

“I’ve been coming here for over 5 years now and it never disappoints. It’s halal, family-owned, and the staff — especially Erik — are absolutely brilliant. You always feel so welcomed and looked after. The food is out of this world. The crispy chilli squid and prawn toast starters are a must-try (seriously addictive), and the duck wraps are some of the best I’ve ever had. For mains, you can’t go wrong with the beef in black bean sauce, sweet and sour chicken, and their egg fried rice — all cooked perfectly every single time. It’s rare to find a place that keeps getting better after so many years, but they genuinely do. Can’t recommend it enough — if you’re in Cardiff and want amazing halal Chinese food with a real family vibe, this is the spot!”

“One of my favourite places to eat in South Wales. Lovely atmosphere, great for brunch with a great selection included loads of vegetarian options. Chocolate brownie is decadent. The cafe/restaurant itself is lovely but what is good is that there is a secluded small but fun play area for children to play in whilst you wait for your food (it is outside!)”

“Thank you so much to Marcus and his team for the wonderful, caring service they delivered at the wake for our Dear Dad on Wednesday. Everyone commented on how lovely the room was. We appreciated the use of the easel for our display of photos and the table for Dad's regimental flag, poppies and donation box. The food was of a very high standard.... lovely chips, fresh sandwiches any yummy desserts - especially the tiramisu. Thank you to you all! We are very grateful!”

“Wow. What a fantastic pub. New to Cardiff and stumbled upon this little gem for Sunday lunch. Ate at the bar rather than in the dining room as I had my dog with me, but ate off the same menu. And what a menu. In a world where food for a lot of pubs is heated in a microwave, you should be more like this pub instead. Fantastic and huge sunday roast with lots of trimmings. The football was on the big screen in the bar, but that didn't detract from the atmosphere. And the lady who served us at the bar was friendly. funny and helpful. My only gripe is I can only give this place 5 stars!”

The food was absolutely fantastic—I couldn’t fault the Buttermilk Fried Chicken, and my nan loved the Flat Iron Steak (though I think she pinched most of the gravy!). The drinks were fab too, and the atmosphere was just right for a special occasion. Big shoutout to the team, especially Frasier, who made the day even more special with his chatty vibes. “I have always loved Coffee #1, and believe it is the best chain around this area. I order a large caramel latté with extra caramel and an extra shot, and after 2 of those (I'm beginning number 2 as I write), I can't think straight anymore, my handwriting goes completely wonky, and I forget the way home. That's the sign of a potent brew. The taste is good, but I've had 99 doses of radiotherapy (yes, ninety-nine) on my throat area, so my taste buds are redolent of a bad night out in Mogadishu. The latté art is spot on, so I don't hold it against the (traditionally harassed) barista that he could only with great effort hold back a wince of distaste at my Philestinism when I said yes to his offer of a swirl of squirty caramel sauce on top of the accomplished rosette. I ran a coffee shop for a while, and I used to snarl at everyone even though my latté art was poop and I only knew how to make one type of drink, regardless of what was ordered. The atmosphere is lovely, and I'm here at 1pm on a Tuesday. It's gently buzzing and only disturbed by one SCREAMING baby, (too many ristretto, methinks). We look out onto the fairly dull Penarth main street; more stimulating to point your chair inwards - this cafe is surprisingly deep, with enough tables for me not to feel *too* guilty/awkward at taking up a potential 3 seater on my lonesome. (To be honest, with a stoma in your neck and an electric voice, you get away with pretty much anything anywhere anyway - never underestimate the power of sympathy/revulsion). The atmosphere is in fact so pleasant that although I only came in for a takeaway cup, I've ended up staying for 2 and a takeaway pecan/salted caramel brownie for my dear wife. Come to this cafe. I don't think you'll regret it”

Been a loyal customer for over a decade now but the past year they’ve really upped their game considerably - the full English comes with even higher quality ingredients now! “Ate here tonight with the extended family which meant more young kids than adults. Always a difficult meal out but staff were really friendly, attentive and patient. Food was excellent, we had a variety of starters and mains and all were polished off with a smile. Children's food was of the same quality as well, real chicken strips with a nice crisp coating and decent portion sizes. A good selection of drinks and desserts and the atmosphere was really good, a busy Wednesday night after a cool and sunny day. The outside seating with fires for warmth looked really good. Definitely worth a visit and the seafront makes for a nice walk before / after the meal or both.”
