“We decided to go to Miller and Carter in Burton as a last minute spontaneous decision and we certainly did not regret it. The service was great with their servers paying real attention to your experience, the food was prepared perfectly to the point where nobody in our party spoke a word once it arrived and the atmosphere was welcoming and warm. This was our first time at a Miller and Carter despite always wanting to visit and it certainly won’t be our last. If you find yourself in Burton give this establishment a visit, you’ll be grateful that you did!”

The dinner was top notch gastropub with great service and food. The bar well stocked with great wines and real ales. Breakfast was amazing and well beyond the normal fry. “Myself and my partner were travelling for a Rally and wanted to go up night before. I rang here and they said staying over in Motorhome wasn't a problem as long as we had a meal and drinks which wasn't a problem for us. Rang on the way on Thursday 29/05/2025 to confirm and was told maybe busy due to Classic car show which is held there on Thursday nights (but do ring to confirm this). But we were still welcome. The place as drove in was amazing with big lake view. We parked up and went in and was greeted by friendly, welcoming lovely staff and owners. James and his team really helpful and friendly. We bought drinks which was reasonably priced. We had the carvery which was absolutely amazing and so tasty and hot definitely worth the money. The place is so clean and tidy. The whole building inside and outside is lovely to look at. There is plenty of seating inside and outside with garden seating area overlooking the lake. Plenty of parking. The walk around the lake was nice and seeing all the ducks and Canadian geese. There is fishing allowed and rules which are in view. We are hoping to stop here again in few weeks. So if travelling and want to stop for night give them a ring. Cannot fault this place. Definitely going again and recommend. Reading the history of the building is interesting. Nice village to travel through. We woke to amazing view and so quiet in the night.. They also cater for various functions..”

“Amazing venue, the decor is a riotous mixture Hollywood and middle east the food is Amazing and great value for money, The thing that really makes it special is the warmth of the welcome from the super friendly, helpful and perfectly polite staff in particular Navpreet who was too modest to appear in the pictures.”

“Been there 3 times now and can say everytime I have gone the food has been amazing! I have been with company too. We've tried the pizza, burgers, hot honey chicken, beef stroganoff and all of it has tasted so good. The chef's are so talented. For the cost and for what it is, it's just presented perfectly to me. “We hadn't visited for a few year's, but I used to bring my grandmother regularly for lunch before she went in a nursing home. Booking there today after her funeral was the perfect farewell. We booked a table for 7 people, we had a mixture of the main menu and the festive menu. The food was delicious, cooked perfectly and excellent value for money. It was a lovely atmosphere and we had the loveliest of servers. Thank you so much, we will make sure we return more often”

“Lovely location, building and outdoor area. I used the car park whilst doing the Anchor Church Trail and popped in for a pint after. The service from James was superb, not just to me, but consistently from what I observed, I’d say the best I’ve personally witnessed, kind & personable. Great pint as well, would recommend.”

“The Boot is half walk to meet my mom, and we’ll 100% be back. Fabulous location just off the A38, and plenty of parking. The food was sublime and a wine list to generously accompany the dishes. A running theme with all my reviews is that I like a nice wine list and the Boot offers exactly that. The food was so fresh and full of flavour, beautifully presented. A real Gastro Pub that welcomes dogs which is important for us as a family of dog owners, who enjoy the finer things. Thank you to the wonderful Heidi who look after us, you made mom’s birthday experience thorough enjoyable. We’ll be back!”

“So came here in April 25 for a casual dinner to celebrate my wife’s birthday. 4 year old daughter was in tow. The spring menu was Italian themed. I have to say that this is a proper gastro pub. The food is excellent. Really high quality and very very tasty. Portion size is good so you won’t leave hungry. Expresso martinis are delicious as was the wine. As it was my wife’s birthday they brought out a brownie and a candle and some ice cream for my daughter just so she wouldn’t feel left out. Luckily this is in vicinity and is out go to place when we want some decent food and a nice night out. We’ll be back.”

“Our booking was for 20 people. The service was efficient and helpful, and everyone was served in good time. Two people ordered the Aubergine dish, but it wasn't to their taste, an exchange was offered, and no charge was made. It was handled very well. Much appreciated how they sorted out the bill for us to pay individually. Excellent!”

“A pleasant country pub in pretty rural surroundings. I visited with a friend ona busy Friday evening. The staff were friendly, polite, professional and managed that difficult balance of attentiveness and unobtrusiveness perfectly. Both the selection of food available and it’s quality was very good, I will have to go back to try more of the menu soon. There was a wait between ordering and service but that is expected in the context of properly cooked food and I would not want it to change.”

“I stayed in Derby for a week and tried a few different places for breakfast. I found the book cafe to be the best. Excellent quality food. Particularly enjoyed the scrambled eggs which were light and flurry. Every item on the plate was of good quality. The location of the cafe is very central and the quirky ambience adds to the experience. Only slightly marked down service as there was no table service, only order at the bar was available but that said the staff were nice and friendly. I’d gladly return to the book cafe in the future and recommend to others”
