“It's taken us ages to actually get round to booking a table but decided to take our friend here for his birthday. We were really impressed with the food and the service. I had a steak which was cooked perfectly and the chips and onion rings were amazing. The rest of the meals were great and it's a lovely atmosphere and the staff were lovely. To top it off they even brought out a surprise dessert with a candle on for the birthday boy. Thanks for a great meal.”

“Visited on Easter Sunday for a birthday celebration. Only found out about the place online the day before. How have we not been here before? This is a little gem of a restaurant. Although fairly small, and quiet when we arrived late afternoon, the restaurant had a nice feel from the moment we arrived. Service was excellent all the way through even as it got busier, and all our questions about the menu were answered by the manager who obviously took great pride in the restaurant. The food was excellent as we shared 5 tapas between 2 of us, which was more than enough, although we were tempted by dessert. The selection of wines was good, and the Spanish beers were interesting and varied. Overall an excellent meal, and good value when taking into account drinks as well. We’ll be back.”

“We found this little gem hidden away down in a small court yard. WELL worth a visit would friendly people .we had the glutton free breakfast. They also do most thing glutton free like the fish and chips .”

“Visiting this lovely little town over the weekend and we found a cocktail bar and thought we’d give it a try… did not disappoint! They had availability for me and my family to play darts, which was spectacular for a such a good system! The staff Kept checking on us for more drinks, they could not have been any more accommodating! After, we sat down for some food and more drinks, 2-4-1 cocktails on a Sunday all day and a great range to pick from too. Their food menu was worth the price and the size of portions were more than expected! Thankyou to Carmela and Fred for looking after us yesterday evening, would highly recommend and will be back soon!”

“Myself and a friend enjoyed an Afternoon Tea for Two with Prosecco on a Saturday afternoon. The sandwiches and home made scone and cakes were just delicious, with huge portions! They were happy to provide vegetarian sandwiches for me. Helen was our host and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely service and atmosphere, thank you!”

“I don;t often do reviews but this was such a good find. Needed a central point with parking for the girls meet up - always hard to find somewhere central to us all. The cocktails and waffles were amazing! There was a huge choice and all cooked fresh to order (they smelt out of this world). All accompanied with a couple of cocktails. I'm probably going to try Sunday lunch here next time - it's one of those places that I think will become a favourite for loads of occasions!”

“We were visiting Tutbury, and stumbled across this lovely café. We only had drinks but even those were nice. The caramel latte is my favourite ☕ The staff were helpful and friendly. The toilets are on the left hand side of the café, and we're spacious and clean. I would recommend this café.”

“Had a lovely experience yesterday! Very family friendly (we had a pram, and they put out a baby change for us). The service was very good. The little finishing touches of bringing cutlery on a plate and sauce on a little side plate, too, made it a more pleasant experience. Food is an amazing value for money! “Four of us went for breakfast, arriving at around 0930hrs. It was busier than we expected, but we got a table next to the cakes, which looked lovely. Our orders were a vegetarian breakfast, Avocat des Oeufs and two Derbyshire Oat Cakes. The two who ordered the Oat Cakes wanted scrambled eggs and mushroom, which wasn't on the menu, but this wasn't an issue at all, they were happy to do it (a sign that they are actually making the food freshly, not just opening packets, methinks). One of our party accidentally put chocolate powder on their poached egg, thinking it was pepper. This was replaced by a fresh egg with no hesitation by the staff, they even removed the egg and muffin from the plate, brought the unaffected egg/muffin back so it could be eaten at the same time as the rest of us, and then arrived with the replacement egg when it was ready. This is the sort of service you want everywhere, Even though they were really busy, every table was occupied, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The food was really good too, and not expensive. Four breakfasts, four hot drinks, £40 (just under!) Definitely recommend, definitely going again next time we're in the area. Six or seven stars.....”

“We visited today for my birthday and oh my goodness it's was brilliant. Absolutely fantastic service from a very friendly guy (didn't get his name!) from the minute we walked in. So refreshing to have a waiter who does things so well. Cocktails were lovely and well made and the birthday card was a very nice touch. We both had three courses, and finished every last bit of it all! Really delicious. My husband particularly enjoyed the Thai sweet potato soup and I absolutely loved the rump of lamb. The flavours were so fresh and delicious. Felt like a real treat to visit somewhere so lovely. Can't wait to revisit! Thank you!”

“Wanted a dirty burger, this was the best option after some research as a tourist. Walked in, ordered on the screens, sat down and food was with me in less than 10 minutes. Friendly staff, clean restaurant with plenty of seating. 5* burger. Everything in the photo cost £21. Keep up the good work!”

“We recently had a large family Christmas meal at The Palfrey, and it was an excellent experience. The private room was beautifully arranged and provided a great atmosphere for our gathering. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure everything ran smoothly. The selection of craft beers was a real highlight, offering something for everyone. The food was very well prepared and full of flavour. The salmon was perfectly cooked, and the mussels were fresh and enjoyable. Every dish was clearly made with care, and the presentation was spot on. Overall, it was a fantastic venue for our family celebration. We’d definitely recommend The Palfrey for anyone looking for good food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere.”

“We hired The Little Kitchen for our works Christmas night out, and Donna and her team never fail to impress. They are so friendly, welcoming, and genuinely can’t do enough for you. We had the turkey Christmas dinner, which was absolutely delicious — a proper home-cooked meal with plenty of veg options. The red cabbage was especially amazing! There were two dessert choices, and I went for the chocolate one, which was so nice. They even let us bring along our own silly team games, which was perfect for our very competitive group. This was our second year returning, and we honestly wouldn’t find anywhere better for quality food and such a warm, friendly atmosphere. Thank you once again”

“Good, polite service and delicious food. Tablecloths on the tables were clean as was everything else. The salmon starter was quite a small portion, but the mains were big portions to balance it out. The veg that came with the Sunday lunches was all delicious. Would highly recommend the restaurant.”

“Just been for meal at this little treasure of a restaurant. Service was beyond friendly, lovely ambience, food was out of this world. Being vegetarian for 40 years I do get bored of the same menu BUT they had a few amazing different options which I went for the beetroot and lentil bourguignon which tasted outstanding. My husband had for the pork belly and also agreed the food was beyond delicious. Very Highly recommended.”

“I dropped in to have a coffee, but on entering, smelling the food and having a sense of calm about the place, I decided to get a menu and have some breakfast. The menu is small but concise and doesn't attempt to be an "everything to everyone" type of eatery. I had the veggie breakfast and it was delicious. Hash browns were fluffy yet crisp on the outside and the whole meal went down nicely. Table service was good although I wasn't too sure whether you pay at the table or at the counter. Food is cooked from fresh and you can tell when it comes out. My only slight negative was I didn't like the butter/spread used on the toast but this is a very minor point. Would definitely visit again and would recommend to all to have a visit. Breakfast and coffee for under a tenner.”
